It really depends on your team and the commander, if they aren’t dropping supplies and getting garrisons built and working with the team then it will be frustrating, also experience goes a long way
To my fellow console players, I highly recommend sitting closer to the TV. It really helps notice those pixels. Also shifting in and out of aim can help too.
I really wanted to buy a big 60" tv for my birthday and this cocky nerdy kid was saying I'm an idiot and to buy a 4k asus 41 inch monitor for my xbox which was on sale for $500 and it's been amazing
Well, when I went from a 24'' 16:9 1920x1080@60hz 79dpi to a 34'' 21:9 3440x1440@144hz 109 dpi screen, mainly for simracing and combat flight sims, and I noticed a massive difference in Arma3. I could comfortably engage enemies with iron or holosights for whom I needed a small telescopic sight like an ACOG earlier. Spotting in some combat flight sims went from "I'm blind" to "I SEE YOU!" (Cue Sauron eye😉). IL-2 GB still is a problem due to it's lack of contrast, but In Cliffs of Dover and DCS it gas been a game changer. And in some games like War Thunder (I did a short test when I first got the Monitor, I haven't played it in over a year and good riddance) spotting became ridiculously easy after the monitor change. For spotting a monitor with a good contrast rating is more than just helpful. And the wider 21:9 format also reduces FOV compressoon. And it means you'll have to scan more with your eyes instead of your hand/mouse, keeping the imsge more steady. So the ideal Monitor has a hz rating above 100, high static contrast of 3000:1 or 4000:1, gsync compatible or freesync, a 1440p resolution and an aspect ratio of wider than 16:9. You could go 4k, but the performsnce penalty and price penslty for it are still to high.
The difference between standing right behind a window and standing back a few paces from a window when sniping is a world of difference. Here's the theory. Standing against the window can do one of three things. One, your rifle can poke out of the window. Two, light can shine on your player, making it more apparent to the enemy that you're there. Three, when firing, your muzzle flash is more noticeable outside a window than inside. Standing back just a bit grants some bonuses. Not only does it counteract all three of these things, it can also make it mildly more difficult for the enemy to hit you. For some reason, just that little teensy bit of distance can dramatically change the odds of you getting hit when receiving fire.
The further you stand from the window (or any gap in cover really) which you're shooting through, the smaller the area someone outside can shoot directly at you from. You can be shot from anywhere you can see through your cover (and a little more around the edges of what you can see too, really). The further back you stand the narrower your field of view the less likely there will be an enemy in that field. This does mean you have to keep moving in an arc pivoting on your window to maximise your field of awareness though. The other issue is when less considerate players then go use your window and block your shooting and give away the position. I'll admit to a small measure of vindictive pleasure when you get to see them drop because they weren't taking enough care. Sometimes, particularly when your position was already known, this can have the benefit of the enemy thinking they've taken care of that pesky sharpshooter, an assumption you can then correct with a well placed shot.
Basic geometry, gives your enemies a smaller window (haha) to be able to hit you since you’re more protected, as you’re standing farther into a room than outside of it
This boils down to angles. Waaay too often, especially in CQB, I see people try and sneak close to the corner, when it's best to take longer turns. It's kinda like how gears work.
As a new player I played in your server last night and the people were nothing but helpful. Taught me a lot and was fragging out in no time. The one thing i will say about this game is that its much better when you have a vocal active squad. Good squad mates make this game feel totally different
Another tip. Join a squad that communicate and move with each other. If you have a active machine gunner in your group the officer and use the binoculars and give you insight on where to shoot at where you can lay down suppressive fire on top of actually hitting them as well. Support so when you need the supplies to lay down a Garry for the team. The officer is the head and without taking command of your group it’s going to be hard
I cannot emphasize enough that when playing officer , having a “role play” attitude and being nice to your squad will nurture a very cohesive unit. For example the other day two squad mates were getting at each other and i chimed in “CALM DOWN SOLDIERS OR ELSE NONE OF YOU GET THE METH CHOCOLATE “ they all laughed and stopped fighting .
Dude I can never find this type of squad. Maybe it’s the time I go on but either all the squads are full some are locked and have a couple spots left or have people that are silent….
I love suppression it absolutely changes how fps games work and honestly it was a huge factor that made me fall in love as it doesnt matter if you are shroud if you are being shot at you are gonna have a hard time pinpointing the target and dealing with the screen effects
No its actually a bad mechanic because not the guy with the better skills wins. In 90% of the time with supression the guy who shoot first will win. No matter if he is good or not.
thing that helped me the most in all these games that you touched on is map awareness, you go from being the headless running simulator to actually playing once you can notice your friendlies are facing a field southwest when the objective is south, so the enemy is most likely massed west and east is a good entry
Also from a real military perspective, didn't even learn about it in MCT but from my Sgt who was in the first invasion of Iraq. When you are scanning. Go the opposite direction of how you read, left to right = scanning right to left, and vice versa. It's unnatural for you to be looking that way, forcing you to slow down, and decreasing your chance of overlooking a potential threat. Which is the whole point of scanning, remain calm and stay slow, and don't always shoot at the first thing you see. It might be best to simply let the first group continue on, there might be more of them in your 'dead space.'
Hopefully the tips in my video help with that! It just takes time honestly. You are going to get destroyed for many games before you start getting to the point where you are destroying others.
I liked that you touched on looking for common player behavior. In hunting the tip I always got from my dad was always look where the deer should be first. They MIGHT be on some random peak or in the middle of a road, but they’re probably moving along cover and taking the easy terrain
Exactly. 7/10 times if you simply ask yourself "where would someone most likely be coming from if they were on the opposite team, you'll find them exactly there. I'll take those odds!
Something that's underappreciated in these games is that, often beyond skill issues discussed in the video, simply knowing the map comfortably, ideal spots for hiding and placing things, terrain height, and the distance between places, helps enormously. You gain a lot of automatic situational awareness from simply playing the map a few times (one reason why the defenders in historical WWII battles often had the advantage) moreso than looking at the "abstraction" of the terrain on a map. A lot of times when I play a hardcore shooter for the first time and bring up my map, I just can't make good sense of what I'm looking at and it leads me to be more aimless and risky in my approaches.
Footsteps are also another thing to listen for. Hard to do it in the middle of a battle, but I have gotten the drop on a few players around a corner just because I heard them coming.
100% - I use discord with friends and I play pretty passive, preferring the bolt-action rifles to any semi-auto or auto weapons (I end up playing a lot of engineer, support, etc. And I enjoyed playing recon much more after I got the rifle unlocked on the Spotter), so I make lots of small movements and do a lot of listening. I cannot tell you how many times I've said, "Braxton, shh! Hold up................. *BANG* alright, guy came in the house. Got em tho - what were you saying about north east?" aaand continue taking heads. Listening takes such an important role in alpha striking and survival. It blows my mind (or I guess keeps it from getting blown ;D )
I don’t play this game, but i want to thank you for being reasonable in the sense of waiting to ask viewers to sub until they’ve seen some content. Too many people start with that request/demand before you even see what they’re about. Keep up the good work.
It just takes time! After 350 hours in this game, I honestly feel that I understand where they players are coming from and can see them MUCH better. Also, a 4k monitor helps a bit...
@@the.true.Aif youre in the us, samsung sells a basic 4k monitor for 230 bucks at best buy. Has no hardware hdr but decent color accuracy. Hopefully this helps.
My cats sit on my lap when I'm gaming and they like to watch so the slightest movement they'll always see first and i know there's an enemy about when their ears twitch. Yep i have a feline spotter squad haha
I am very used to Halo so one thing I do a lot is move back and forth in one spot. This often helps in Halo because it can be harder to hit, but in HLL it probably just helps the enemy spot me easier.
Yes it does get easier. I went from barely gettin a kill to killing 35 with my longest headshot being 179m. I was basically trying to help slow people down while we capped. We started off good but got pushed all the way back to default garrys. We ended up coming back and winning!
@@Alleykatsksuse an RPG at a spawn point and you can get an easy 3-400 meter headshot. Pretty sure with RPGs you don't even have to hit their head cause it happens so often, no way it's actually hitting the head directly.
whY did my comment get removed immediately? All I said was you can get an easy 3-400 meter headshot by shooting an RPG at a spawn/point where enemy is dug in. Rockets are like magnets to heads somehow@@Alleykatsks
I don't even play this game, but the way you've edited and presented the information in this video is very easy to digest/apply. Bet a lotta people are going to be references your videos if they want to improve mechanically!
Believe me, this game is so hard to present. I am watching a lot of content about this game ( and playing ) and it is hard to explain the game. But ma man, SoulSniper, is really great.
The key to doing well on this game is wait until others come until your sight before you go into theirs, what I mean by this is move into position when attacking then wait for the near by enemies that saw you to come look for you, another good one to get into position is throw smoke the opposite way to where you run far away from where you run as they will be focusing on the smoke.
Dude your tip for moving small distances and scanning helped me re-frame and get tons more kills and stay alive longer. Started playing like I'm in a hunting game stalking prey
Yes, that's the key! Now eventually you'll have the movement and ballistics down, and map knowledge will come in time and you'll be able to play more aggressively and come out on top. But still, positioning and constantly scanning and reverse engineering the enemy's likely sightlines to you is key. Don't run along the top of a hill; instead, move down the side of the hill a ways and move along the side of the hill, for example.
I recently bought my best friend this game he is new to PC gaming, he used to only play Halo Infinite with his friend. I went out on a limb and got this game for him, I didn't think he'd like it because of the complex mechanic and how different it is from other shooters. I also thought because it can be a dying and PTSD simulator, that the learning curve would throw him. Now it's his favorite game. :3
Important to slow down. Even as a veteran player I have to remind myself of this occasionally. As SS stated this is not a run and gun game(sometimes you do need to just push). Slow down and scan. Even just stop and look around it’s easier to spot people if your screen isn’t bouncing. Keep at it and have a good time.
3:14 I don't know how I ended up watching this video and I don't even play this game, but the title intrigued me and I thought "hey, maybe this could be a good lesson for some friends who have a *difficult time* spotting enemies". I just can't help but imagine a lot of players just don't really see where they're going, almost as if it was autopilot to Shift+W forward until an enemy shoots you, hearing the enemy run towards you or you catch them because they're more oblivious. In Hunt Showdown, knowing where the enemy is before they ever realize they're being watched is one of the most satisfying things you can achieve. It's not called Hunt for a reason. Being ready for the adrenaline when starting the fight is better than having the enemy bring that to you instead. This video almost speaks universally for any game that handles more than 3 players at the minimum in a PvP situation. Don't react to the enemy when they run up to you- KNOW, that you are about to run into the enemy and drop him before he drops you.
Essentially, learning to spot the enemy just comes down to one thing: using your brain. The common sense and typical behaviors of players points made in this video excellently summarize how to spot the enemy. Ultimately, all players have patterns and the more you recognize how they’re going to respond the more effective you will be in combating said players by not only knowing what they’re going to do, but also changing up your own patterns so they can’t do the same to you.
Great video, i think part of this is also how to interpret the map and the markers that are there, generalising areas of attack / defence, where fellow soldiers are being downed ect
Biggest advantage is knowing where they are coming from. After that, be more cautious and look for any movement. Proned players will always be difficult no matter what
This is why I play support, medic and engineer. The focus usually isn’t killing people. I also like tank crew because, well, your in a tank so you can see the enemy clearly without fear of instantly dying most of the time. The devs have put really good accessibility options into the game and I’m really grateful for that but for a legally blind person like me I don’t think there’s much they could do to help me see the enemy better without compromising the realness of the game. I find myself pretty much pressing my face against my tv to see enemies sometimes but I still have tons of fun with the game and it’s one of my most played.
If you’re in a tank, move with your infantry. Don’t be scared they’ll get out your way and protect your ass end from getting blown thru by a sneaky bastard with a satchel plus that’s what’s the tank role is. Infantry support.
One issue I noticed with slower paced tactical shooters like squad is that alot of teammates are holding W and looking at their phones until something happens, or simply not being that engaged until something happens. Being alert and search for enemies and loving every moment of it has led to me being the first person to spot enemies and save the squad numerous times.
Something a lot of people don't understand: You have to defocus your eyes. If you're scanning for movement by looking at this hill, then this hill, then that building, you're going to be way too slow. Let your vision blur slightly, don't look at anything in particular, just let your eyes do the work. You can see motion easily when defocused. Works IRL too, but hopefully none of you have to learn that.
Another great tip: Don't expose yourself by been right next to a window when looking out. Shoot from inside the room instead of sticking your gun out the window.
It's always about finding your "zone"! Some days I really freaking suck and others I still suck but enjoy it! 🤔 Seriously though you're defs right about stopping and taking in the sights and sounds. Just because the two blokes in front of you are legging it doesn't mean you should do it too. Just stop and watch where they get shot from.
Great video. I play quite of bit of Hell let Loose. One thing that always frustrates me is those who join with no idea how to play. This should be a video everyone watches before they play, will help cut out the learning curve.
Heya, I'm a first timer to the channel. I don't play the game but I've been curious and this is the first vid I watched. I'd like to mention specifically about the M1's 'ping'. A nifty thing you can do is purposely eject it to lure the enemy into your firing line or distract them. Troops would take the spent clip and throw it onto the ground to fool the enemy. The Germans got too comfy with the idea of a soldier emptying their clip so it was taken advantage of.
This might work in the game, but it's a fallacy in as far as this being a real tactic in combat. No ones gonna hear it. Even if they could, no one's going to suddenly charge a position because they heard one Garand go 'ping'. I know your post is old and it's not aimed at you personally, but this is a much used and tired bit of fiction.
When I started I couldn’t find a single enemy player until they had already blasted me…now I’ve gained some experience and I feel like I can’t not see them…
Communication is definitely key in this game as well moving with your squad and being able to talk to them or other squads around you is super important.
I have no idea. When I saw it was coming to new gen consoles I bought a series S and preordered it. I just couldn’t wait to get a game like this on console
Strength in numbers and the chat after that LOL LOL 8:22 Thanks Soul for your time you put into this. great work Thank you sir! for everything! Don't forget to praise Trap32.
Thanks for the guides, I've watched a bunch trying to understand game modes & resources etc. I only started yesterday on console & ye, my biggest issue was map knowledge & not knowing where enemies are/are moving to, so I was getting pinged from all sides! I can already see why it's addicting though. There's a steep learning curve but it seems really satisfying when things work out.
When you get to a point where it all clicks and you start to correctly anticipate the enemies tactics, and start getting the hang of the ballistics and where to position yourself, it's so awesome. You become the one pinging heads, destroying garrisons, blowing up tanks, etc. Just keep playing and keep learning! discord.gg/soulsniper
I've found that aggression in the right time is key for being able to get the drop on the enemy. It's fine to hold angles in a spot far away, but when you're very close to the enemy, it's important to move around and never be in the same spot. Also listening for sounds is very important, it saves my life and helps me spot where enemies are just from the sound of gunfire.
Love your guides dude! Soo helpfull for soo many people who doesn’t know how to play the game! I’ve spent like 60 hours now and I still haven’t mastered everything. You earned a new sub brother! 😎👍
I legit thought this wasn't for a game when I clicked. Now I'm gonna go looking for a video on how to spot the difference between game and irl advice videos.
Hell Let Loose is the biggest POS game I ever played because there's a water filter effect over my screen and I cannot see an enemy more than 10 ft from me. I couldn't tell the difference between a Tiger tank and a shed despite the two being in a wide open field.
Thanks a lot. Im not playing hell let loose but i can take this advice with myself to many video games. I started playing PUBG and i have a huge problem with movement, enemy spotting, and so much more. This will help a lot. Thanks again. 👍
After just 3 hours play time i can already tell that atleast quite a few people be using cheats. Cant blame them if those cost as much as a r6 cheat lol
I have just started playing this game and once I got over the extremely steep learning curve and forget pretty much everything I’ve been doing in other shooter games I have found an absolutely fantastic game
I downloaded it yesterday, played my second match and I carried the whole team. I flanked the enemies from behind very slowly and killed 5 people with my p40. A great first experience. It was just 9 vs 10 players.
Very useful information, the only feedback I have is to check the volume of the background audio in your video, among explosions and shooting is hard to hear what you are saying in some points of the video. Great content! keep going.
Working on my next video and a being careful to make sure the audio is consistent in volume and that the background noise doesn't drown out my voiceover. Thank you!
thankyou so much for all your videos myself and my friend have just downloaded this game looking for a more realistic shooter. weve both watch your videos and has made the game so much more fun from the get go.
Great tips. Know when to Slow down and scan and know when to push and scan. Always take some type of cover. FLANK FLANK FLANK. BUILD as MANY GARRYS as possible, this will help identify which way the attack is coming. And team work always works. Another tip change your ingame FOV to see closer but you'll see less sides so there's a trade off there. Best tip. PRACTICE.
More of you experienced guys need to mic up more. I played in a squad the other day that I thought these guys were irl friends. The call outs and sense of actual direction was amazing. You also need to understand that you may have to explain more and make actual sense. Guy told me several times he was gary 6 when he was actually at gary 8
Played with you the other day! ❤ Man I love this game. Bought it a year ago and didn’t care for it… but i reinstalled it a few days ago and have fallen completely in love. 100/10
Another little tip, when in ads if you aim your iron sights just slightly below where you want to look you have a much better view of the area you are aiming at which makes it easier to spot enemy movement in the distance
A lot of this really comes with experience and practice, been playing for 2 years and I still have issues finding the enemy. But as long as you have a team with at least half a brain, they’ll be able to tell you the general direction of where enemies are pushing, that’s the perfect excuse to try to practice locating enemies from large distances
Using IRL infantry tactics I've learned from the marine corps has made the experience smooth. It's just hard teaching people patrol formations and how to bound to cover when all they want is a kill.
You know this guide also applies really well to Rising Storm 2, I remember my first game I got sniped in the first 10 to 15 seconds while still surrounded by dense forest. I'm still not great but I can hold my own quite well because of things like you talked about. In fact I am also a primitive skills/wilderness survival guy and many of the basic skills you are taught is how to make use of the human eye's natural ability to spot motion even in the far edges of your peripheral vision. In other words, as you said, not getting tunnel vision.
a kid from my mom's friend wants me to play apex, but i hav no interest or knowledge of the game so i watch wat kids do...until i notice their performance was off, so i thought them and become his spotter, i spot enemies where they go and the kid will find and shoot, we won alot every time
Games where being able to see out further being a huge factor may be a case for using 4K resolution, since it's more pixels you get to see for things further out.

It feels wierd but yeah with these kinda of games you have to be pretty close to TV if you actually want to see anything
Excellent tips and I agree
this applies to sniping in most games tbf, still a good tip
Love to hear it man! It's a great community and our server is super chill!
Communication is everything
Another tip. Join a squad that communicate and move with each other. If you have a active machine gunner in your group the officer and use the binoculars and give you insight on where to shoot at where you can lay down suppressive fire on top of actually hitting them as well. Support so when you need the supplies to lay down a Garry for the team. The officer is the head and without taking command of your group it’s going to be hard
As an MG lover, it's fun when someone spots for you like that!
Sounds like you had a very fun game today
This game needs a mount/ brace system like rising storm.
I love suppression it absolutely changes how fps games work and honestly it was a huge factor that made me fall in love as it doesnt matter if you are shroud if you are being shot at you are gonna have a hard time pinpointing the target and dealing with the screen effects
we had it back in battlefield 4. idk why other games never took it and made it better til now
No its actually a bad mechanic because not the guy with the better skills wins.

100 percent
I got this game around Christmas and this video helped also these comments thanks
That's fascinating, thanks for sharing that
me who writes in both directions : guess i will die
Huh guess ill try this opposite scanning trick
@@calamitistsucks for you buddy 😂 maybe try the one you use the least
I just discovered this game, what an experience so far it’s been.
What’s driving me nuts is everyone can see me but I can’t see them!

This thumbnail is spot tf on.
Lol yea I remember that feeling.

It feels more genuine. I can't ask you to buy the new truck you haven't test drove yet!
It just takes time! After 350 hours in this game, I honestly feel that I understand where they players are coming from and can see them MUCH better. Also, a 4k monitor helps a bit...
this type of game really benefits from higher definition monitors, sadly I can't really afford them atm

My cats sit on my lap when I'm gaming and they like to watch so the slightest movement they'll always see first and i know there's an enemy about when their ears twitch. Yep i have a feline spotter squad haha
Verdun made me a master of spotting pixels at distance.
For some reason enemies are harder to spot in HLL then in Verdun
I am very used to Halo so one thing I do a lot is move back and forth in one spot. This often helps in Halo because it can be harder to hit, but in HLL it probably just helps the enemy spot me easier.
This is seriously one of the hardest shooter game I've every played. It's so satisfying to get a kill but so damn difficult.
It gets easier. Just keep playing!
Noob
I'm using this information for PUBG!
Believe me, this game is so hard to present. I am watching a lot of content about this game ( and playing ) and it is hard to explain the game. But ma man, SoulSniper, is really great.
That's kind of you to say man, thank you. I do my best!
My favorite parts of the game is when someone runs in front of my mg42 when I'm firing or stands next to a tank when I'm trying to blow it up
I recently bought my best friend this game he is new to PC gaming, he used to only play Halo Infinite with his friend.
I have around 35 hours on HLL and these guides are still helpful
Always something to learn! I've got 2000+ hours and still learn shit all the time!
@@SoulSniperYT same!

I don't know how I ended up watching this video and I don't even play this game, but the title intrigued me and I thought "hey, maybe this could be a good lesson for some friends who have a *difficult time* spotting enemies".
Great point about changing up your own patterns and being unpredictable.
U Know what would be super Cool, a birds eye view of the battle unfolding + commentary from you!
Great video, i think part of this is also how to interpret the map and the markers that are there, generalising areas of attack / defence, where fellow soldiers are being downed ect
I agree. I have it on my video idea list to do a vid all about reading the drawing inferences from the map.
Yes. I'm always checking my map, looking for blue friendlies going dark blue, to know where enemies are. Especialy on servers with low coms
Long time player here, feel so good to see 86k views on a HLL video. It is one of the best WWII games ever made
Biggest advantage is knowing where they are coming from.
Good for every single game with any realistic mechanic
(edit) Also it's a LOT of information and content in a few minutes, good job

this helps me a lot. For me, being a visualy impared ndividual, it's kinda hard to spot an enemy until their right on top of me. Thank u Soul
Something a lot of people don't understand:
You have to defocus your eyes.
Good tip
It's always about finding your "zone"! Some days I really freaking suck and others I still suck but enjoy it! 🤔 Seriously though you're defs right about stopping and taking in the sights and sounds. Just because the two blokes in front of you are legging it doesn't mean you should do it too. Just stop and watch where they get shot from.
Good job on the red boxes on the hard cover points/ horizons. Just because you miss don’t move to get closer just focus and get better at making shots
Hopefully it helps people understand the tyles of areas to watch for.
Great video.
I play quite of bit of Hell let Loose.
One thing that always frustrates me is those who join with no idea how to play.
This should be a video everyone watches before they play, will help cut out the learning curve.
if you're tired of that you should just play a competitive server
Yea that's why I make these videos to hopefully educate newcomers (and even experienced players) without being boring.
Pixels are no joke 😮 you can train to react on these things, that your body perceives instantly, but is invisible to our minds
When I started I couldn’t find a single enemy player until they had already blasted me…now I’ve gained some experience and I feel like I can’t not see them…
Communication is definitely key in this game as well moving with your squad and being able to talk to them or other squads around you is super important.
does this game go on sale often? Really liking how it looks from your videos.
Yeah, when I got the game it was $20USD or 50% off. Just wait until the next Steam sale and you’ll get it dirt cheap.

If you not fogging your screen up while aiming your doing it wrong 😉
@@SoulSniperYT Will do 👍
STEP 1, PUT YOUR FACE ON THE SCREEN
I've found that aggression in the right time is key for being able to get the drop on the enemy. It's fine to hold angles in a spot far away, but when you're very close to the enemy, it's important to move around and never be in the same spot. Also listening for sounds is very important, it saves my life and helps me spot where enemies are just from the sound of gunfire.
Try spotting the uninstall button and save yourself the aggravation

Another little tip, when in ads if you aim your iron sights just slightly below where you want to look you have a much better view of the area you are aiming at which makes it easier to spot enemy movement in the distance
Good tip, I do this as well
A lot of this really comes with experience and practice, been playing for 2 years and I still have issues finding the enemy.

This game is so fun when you use you actual combat skills you learn in basic training

Games where being able to see out further being a huge factor may be a case for using 4K resolution, since it's more pixels you get to see for things further out.
