  • Come along as we explore the scenic Nordland line (Nordlandsbanen) in the northern part of Norway. From sea level at the city of Bodø, the gateway to the beautiful islands of Lofoten, we travel south across Saltfjellet and the Arctic Circle. We end this part in Trofors about half the way to Trondheim.
The line is single tracked and not electrified so there's lots of awesome diesel power to be seen and heard. The classic Di4 locomotives from 1980 are still running in their original paint scheme and NSB logo. Powered by General Motors EMD 645 diesel engines, these locomotives will treat you for a really nice sound experience.
Highest point of elevation is 680 meters (2230 feet) above sea level. Total line length is 729 kilometers (453 miles). Completion of the line took several decades and it was not until 1962 that the tracks was opened all the way to Bodø.

I believe there is an error in your caption at 8:52. According to the diagram to which you linked in your reply to Mar 1294, train 474 terminates at Mosjoen, not Trondheim. A DMU like the one pictured would not be a very comfortable place to spend a ten-hour journey!

Ah... you are right, but I think, also wrong at the same time. From what I can remember, this was an empty train going all the way to Trondheim closely following the schedule of #474 which had been cancelled because of Covid-restrictions. Thanks for pointing this out.

They run about 6 round trips every day. You can find the schedule here: www.banenor.no/kundeportal/ruter-og-sportilgang/grafiske-togruter2/ Download #15 Bodø-Grong and look at trains 5761-5772 between Mo i Rana and Ørtfjell. Enjoy :-)
