      Yeah, I agree. He always seems to have his guard up (understandably so) but here he seems very comfortable, maybe because he knows Antonio for a while (not sure if they were every in the recording studio together for the Shrek movies though).

    • @marthabradley1266
      @marthabradley1266 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I agree. I can't tell you how many times my family watched Eddy Murphy and Nick Nolte in "48 Hours" when I was a kid because it was one movie which my Dad never got tired of watching over and over on our VCR. I loved "Dolemite" and I would definitely watch it again. I am also interested in watching the documentary on Dolemite. Murphy did an amazing job and I also respect that he didn't touch the sexuality "issue" as it really is no one else's business anyhow. Moreover, It would have made it into a much more serious film than intended. The message was that if you believe in something or, in this case, yourself and work hard, you can make your dreams a reality. Rudy, like Eddie, just wanted to entertain and make people laugh. The other motivation for him was to prove that he was somebody (because his father did not believe he would amount to anything). That shows depth and human understanding, so whoever wrote that did a great job in my opinion. That guy was willing to go broke and bet everything on himself. He endured harsh criticism and rejection but also gained people's love and respect in the end. It was a beautiful portrayal.

    Casting Banderas as a bad guy, assasin or a psychopath was always a genious touch, as the way he speaks sounds gentle and sweet, and that can be so twisted when underneath he's some savage monster on the loose.

    Short intro for people who only know Antonio Banderas from 'Shrek' and "Spy Kids":
    Start with "Desperado", the film that really made him famous in America.
    "The Mask of Zorro"
    "The Thirteenth Warrior"
    If you want to see Banderas carry a film by himself, in spite of the problems with scripts, etc.,
    See: "Automata".

      c keesee, he only lived the end of the dictatorship. When Spain was in transition and opening for democracy. He is the son of a police officer so he was “safe”.
      Antonio even mention in another interview that once he was arrested with his friends while performing a theatre play by the police due to “political” content. But because his father was a police officer he and his friends got released and didn’t have to spend the night in jail.
      So I don’t think that he was traumatized by the regime.

      So is Jason momoa with Peter dinklege.
      Which I think it would funny seeing momoa a pink loving funny guy and Peter a straight edge suit and tie type. Petered dead pan its so good and after seeing momoa on snl and interviews.. I think he can pull off comedy.
      I'd luce for Eddie to be involved with it too. I've been hoping he'd come back to comedy. I missed his type of comedy.

    This was so much better than I expected, though I'm not quite sure what I was expecting, if that makes any sense. So interesting to find out about the arts in Spain during the Franco years.

    Eddie is great in Dolemite and both of these actors should be firmly in the Oscar nomination zone. Pain & Glory is first and foremost about the friendship between Almodovar and Banderas - both of whom have given their friend perhaps their career best work. That's the glory of it, I guess.

    It's so hard for Eddie to open up, it takes Antonio Banderas to make him feel safe and still barely cracking the door to his feelings. I know after Dreamgirls it was a low blow but it's not Oscars matters it's the audience and people that count the most.I hope he knows that or have learned by now. I liked j I'm as a comedian but when I saw that movie and him as a crack addict producer , oh my, it's like I saw a completely different person that has this well of depth that was never opened for decades. For once he let himself completely go and IT WAS BEAUTIFUL, it was real acting artwork! He should really forget about the accolades, and do the real roles that give him joy and open him as an actor! Comedy is great but a lot of times it's a safe choice and you know safe doesn't cut I t for meaningful movies that last for decades. We only live once.)
