Welcome to Kakuma Refugee Camp

No matter what Kakuma will always surprise you. The refugee camp houses 185,000 people, many of whom have suffered a great deal before reaching the safety of the camp. But Kakuma is much more than a sanctuary from harm. It is a community full of creativity, diversity, pride and determination. WELCOME TO KAKUMA is a short video about the creativity and contributions of refugees, and the collaboration between the Turkana community in Kenya and their diverse guests. Kakuma Refugee Camp was established in 1991 in response to large groups fleeing violence in Sudan (now Sudan and South Sudan). Kakuma has been in continuous operations since then serving refugees from Somalia, DRC, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Uganda as well as from Sudan and South Sudan.
