That is not how actual buyers make decisions. There are lots of LC500s available in my area so the production numbers are vastly different. LC500 is a halo car with top notch luxury amenities, design and quality. They are both apples to oranges and drive very differently. I was in the market and picked an RCF carbon/TVD. LC500 is a big, very heavy cruiser. 4400 lbs and very softly sprung that glides through imperfect roads. It is not an exciting car to try to push to the limits. A soft, cushy suspension is not what performance oriented buyers want. People pick this because they want more sportiness and also RCF also has significantly more outright performance than the LC500. People who like spirited driving or taking it to the track while staying with Lexus and that N/A V8. would not put both of them in the same sentence. I track my RCF carbon/TVD several times over the last 4+ years. It is an incredible luxury car that is very track capable for occasional track days (and designed that way) running very respectable track times. That is what F stands for. It can pull almost 1.00G on the skidpad. I have pulled up to 1.50G instantaneous in the high speed turns. Anyone who claims it is a 'cruiser', has no clue what this car was designed for.
@@jdmbren13 True. The ignorance is surprising especially to someone who has driven it on the track quite frequently. There is one owner of the RCF TE in Germany, who did a 7:52 with a passenger and in traffic. Without traffic and without passenger, it could have easily been a 7:45 - 7:47 lap time.

I feel like sometimes people just over analyze a car's value too much. Yes it's a terrible value in terms of performance, but people make emotional decisions all the time. There are times when a car's appearance or personality just appeal to them and it makes it desirable to that person. If you spend all your time comparing every spec and detail to all the other cars out there you will probably never be happy with anything. You'll just be yearning for what you don't have or what you're missing out on all the time.
Something that caused much lols in the Lexus F car community when this car was announced, is that the F stands for Fuji (it's even shaped after the track) so this is the RC Fuji Fuji Edition xD
What I would like to do, is find a regular RCF. Rip out the seats and replace them with carbon ones. Delete the back seats. Change the bonnet for a carbon one. Change the doors for carbon ones. Put lightweight wheels on it and tweak the suspension. This car will be great with 300 pounds less.
I enjoyed the reviews and your humor. I sent you and email with a car debate helping fund my fun daily driver. I thought about the LC500, but decided against it due to its dates tech and high price. But I think this type of car was built for someone shopping the way I am. I’m older and can afford to get the fun sporty car now. Being very fast, but insulated sounds good to me. It’s was of the things I heard about the new C8 that made it be my first choice. I want to sit in nice seats, at least Heated, but preferably cooled as well. If I don’t have the top down, I don’t want to hear road noise. My problem with this car is the tech. I don’t want to spend $100,000 for that crappy tech. I appreciated your humor coming through with this review.
LC500 is worth the money - quality, reliability and original exterior and interior with exclusive materials, it is Aston Martin without the brand image. Tech you just use Android auto/Apple carplay and excellent Mark Levinson audio. All else irrelevant as far as tech goes. Drive it and see.
If the M3/4s are $100k and this car almost as fast as those cars are (last generation), than this car should be $100k too then. However, I think that they are all over priced myself, but I do like this car though, and it is more sporty looking than those other cars are too.
I feel like the problem with this car is its price… no reason why this car should cost $100k+ with how the competition is. Not really fair to clump this car with the GT500 or M2 CS because at least with those cars you get more bang for your buck IMO. Maybe the GT500 is overpriced but its a better track car and faster than the RC F. Personally I would rather buy a Camaro ZL1 1LE if I wanted an affordable street legal track monster, sure its not as luxurious as the RC F but you don’t need all those bells and whistles if you just want a track toy. If Lexus could just make a true track car like Porsche does it would be a lot better. This car should be quicker, lighter and have a better chassis for its price point. Its a good car just too much money when theres other cars that do it better. I guess its a smart idea to make a luxury “track” car but at that price i’d rather buy a Corvette/Cayman GT4/Camaro ZL1 1LE/GT500…
you drive this car and you get the girls go goo goo ga ga. That is why you buy the car. You dont need to have the fastest car. It looks great and looks fast and that is enough.
I appreciate your channel. However, you both seem impartial to German cars over Japanese cars. I drive the Maybach 57s V12 6.0 liter and hands down I would purchase this Lexus.
We think you may be using impartial incorrectly, but we understand your question. We’ll admit there are many German cars we’ve enjoyed, but there are many times we’ve picked a non-German brand (Japanese or elsewhere) in our multi-car comparisons we do for our other channel. In fact, others have accused us of being bought by Toyota. We just happen to not like this Lexus as much as some do. Thanks for watching!
Love the review guys. But I gotta ask, when and where did you guys record this? All the green in the valley and on the hills is really making me feel the "weight" of this winter.
This was filmed in Late September, but we had other things that needed to be released in front of it. We normally have about a month from when it was shot until when it gets released. Thanks for watching!
You imo just do not get this car. It is a car exactly for a superfan. I owned 4 "F" cars (got GS F stil) and this is an ultimate IS F in its core. It is a super GT. All these cars you mentioned are just everywhere and not exclusive for a driver that loves F products. And I do have a Lotus GT430 Evora for the track for example so no need to take this to a track. But you kind of like a slightly "lighter" super GT compared to the Germans. This is my ultimate GT that is just track ready but would not be its main mission at all. The carbon ceramics are not as expensive as you said also. It is half what you said. This is mechanical and got soul. Usable and double personality. 100k is very expensive but do not compare this to a Porsche that is at every corner and trans Europe trip would be a nightmare in a GT4 Cayman for example. I am buying the 2022 "Heat Satin Blue" version. And you can get a Tag Heuer Carrera Fuji Speedway limited watch that is matching it greatly (you wanted more special watch :-) ). And I know 4 owners that have RC F Track Edition and I can say who buys this uses this. This is special, you really have to drive it differently to find out. It is not about straight speed but about the experience and usability. Love it. Investment did not matter to any of the mentioned owners I know :-) It is just rare and that is what we like. Probably would have a fine residual value but no investment car for me at all.
Hmm, I think the watch being included makes the car for the “super fan” or for “only an investment”argument is stupid. Everyone knows they’re not going to throw in a Patek Philippe in there-it’s just a watch with the Lexus brand on it. BMW used to (still does?) sell BMW watches. They’re definitely not high end timepieces either. I’d think of it as like including a leather key fob holder or like a carbon fiber pair of sunglasses-stuff like that. It’s just extra swag they throw in to spice things up to the brand.
We've said before that the LC500 is too heavy, and it is. However, Lexus isn't discussing the LC500 as a lightweight track edition. Thanks for watching!
I agree with y’all. I ant sold. It’s okay to me not worth 100k but i guess I just think it’s a waste of money. I mean there cops at every light now a days. Plus I don’t want to take it too a track screw that!
Seems like more of a marketing exercise to me? Like Lexus is adding high performance sprinkles on their usual GT car ice cream cone just generate buzz like this.
What I don’t understand what you guys is how you say it is a “conundrum” that Lexus is supposed to offer soft isolated vehicles but then they also offer a high-performance fast cars…. isn’t this something magical ? what makes them any different than Mercedes-Benz ? Mercedes-Benz are the biggest manufacturing offering soph and isolated vehicles soft but they also offer AMG cars and you guys have no issue with AMG products… so why is it that when Lexus offered the same recipe you guys are confused ? Also no one is going to laugh you off the track in this car because it’s heavy that’s not reality no one‘s going to do that if someone does they’ll probably get punched in the mouth so that’s not happening
We’ve had similar head scratching moments at the existence of most AMG or M things that are heavy but absurdly capable. Some of them are also fun. This isn’t as fun - which as a Toyota super fan you are unlikely to accept. The result is interesting. Fast and capable. But winds up in a middle ground. We’ve said similar things on some German offerings. Meanwhile we’ve lauded praise on many recent Toyota things…. Thanks for watching as always.
I am with you, Toyota4Life. When I drive my IS 350 on a mountain road, it feels like it belongs there. It handles great. It's not completely soft or isolated, but it'll also get me back home on the highway in comfort. It also has a far more natural feeling to the steering and all the inputs than my wife's 330i M Sport does - which, by the way, feels like it's compensating for something with how snappy and immediately it responds to all inputs, not to mention the busy ride. My point being - Lexus has been making compact sport sedans since its first IS in the late 90's. You don't look at a BMW 3-series and expect it to be as _insulated_ as a 5- or 7-series. Similarly, saying an RC should be as insulated as "a Lexus", which I interpret to be an ES or LS, is a silly thing to say.
@@TestDriveVideos I strongly disagree. I drove all the German competitors and tested them. Their performance is much better but do you want that in such a car? Is this a track car? No. You buy a Porsche GT or a Lotus for that. I own these F cars because they just are not as sterile as todays overengineered Audi RS, Ms or AMGs (only exception is the C63 S imo). This is not pretending it is a Ferrari on the track but those RS and Ms are, and as such they have to be absolutely technical and sterile to achieve those times and performance. You feel the digital vibe in those. Did you really have tested this F in detail or was it just a short drive/few days test? "F" cars do suffer from short testing - you have to own it and get to know them to really appreciate them. After 2 years of M5 you sell it feeling OK, to sell this you really feel sad. It is ownership friendly as hell. You lease the Germans, you own the "F"s for 10+ years and they do not loose its appeal a bit.
I usually like your videos but I’m seven minutes in and have heard mostly complaining about it being for loyal Lexus fans (so what) and a watch (who cares). Tell me how it drives already!
It’s the fomo they are selling you. The fear of missing out like the on some of the last V8s. This is the closest your your gonna get to an LFA. Unless you 5 6 or 7hundred grand. Nissan is doing the same thing with the t spec Gtr’s. Super limited special editions make you feel like need one now.
Seems like a fun car with impressive chops, but you guys just whined the entire time about it. And specifically whining about things that aren't related to how it drives and feels.
They can stick a hundred F badge on a Lexus, and it just doesn't look very aggressive, Lexus designs are so stale and neutral and feminine, somewhat similar to Audi, but Audi does it a little better turning their car into a beast with the RS spec
Man, in what universe do you live in? I have 2 of these at home and they are not fiminine at all. Did you drive those or lived a few days with those? Try it and see.

Both this and LFA are going to be valued higher in the future
With that weight it's more like the Fuji Heavy Industries Edition. #SaabaruMemories
the blend of luxury and race car was executed perfectly
you drive this car and you get the girls go goo goo ga ga. That is why you buy the car. You dont need to have the fastest car. It looks great and looks fast and that is enough.
Honestly, I'd pick one of these up if I had cash to burn. Lol
To be fair, it weighs less than a GTR, a car that broke track records when it came out. So the weight isn't that big of an issue for a modern car.
The BMW E46 M3 has 325mm brake discs in the front and 328mm discs in the back. 😉✌🏻
It’s a luxury sports coupe that is stupid reliable…. Not meant to be the best at stats but in reliability and class looks
Toyota should name this RCF Final edition instead of Track edition. Better way for marketing.
If weight is an issue for this car, why isn't it an issue for the LC500, which is nearly six-HUNDRED pounds heavier??
We've said before that the LC500 is too heavy, and it is. However, Lexus isn't discussing the LC500 as a lightweight track edition. Thanks for watching!
Where's the high five when switching seats guys? 😂
F*** letting it sit. I would drive this all the time.
And yes, I am a Lexus fan 😉
I agree with y’all. I ant sold. It’s okay to me not worth 100k but i guess I just think it’s a waste of money. I mean there cops at every light now a days. Plus I don’t want to take it too a track screw that!
Hrm, the best Lexus ever made will always be the LFA ☝️ I love the 850R reference though! And, as always - great review!
Seems like more of a marketing exercise to me? Like Lexus is adding high performance sprinkles on their usual GT car ice cream cone just generate buzz like this.
Sharpe looking car😍
1:25 Lexus: Building the fastest bricks since 1989.
That’s funny you say that with a Honda logo. Did your vtec kicked in today? Lol
@@born2drift LOL. Nice! To answer your question, yes...eventually 😁 Hopefully my Porsche variocam will kick in later this week too.
It's 472 horsepower, not 417...
I usually like your videos but I’m seven minutes in and have heard mostly complaining about it being for loyal Lexus fans (so what) and a watch (who cares). Tell me how it drives already!
No manual transmission is the main reason I'd never buy one. It's nice but without that engagement I'd rather the LS or LC.
It's their version of project 8. A test car
Looks like a Lexus GTR.
It's come with weird blue color? 😅😂
Lexus: We made a track car!
Lexus buyers: you spelled golf car wrong...
I would drive the piss out of this thing if I had it.
I am just saying.
And this is the real Supra as is the LC500.
it’s 200 pounds more than a c8 z51… is that a lot?
Seems like a fun car with impressive chops, but you guys just whined the entire time about it. And specifically whining about things that aren't related to how it drives and feels.
If ur filthy rich, u might as well buy one. It's exclusive squared.
Not worth the price tag, especially when you can get a base one and spend the savings on a supercharger and really make it special.
I would much rather have the LC500 over this car.
Wouldn't do it for 100k, I'd stretch it and get a gt4
Me too... however when I stretched, It only allowed me to purchase a regular RCF.
Still needs a supercharger.
They could have at least deleted the back seat and put a half cage in it just to make it look cooler.
Where would I put my 2 kids? ;-)
Custom made 60 piece production Race car
You're looking at it all wrong. You're getting a $100,000 car for a $400 watch, not the other way around. 🤣🤣🤣
LC>RCF The End
Not for performance driving. For GT driving and value you are right.
@@ghostridertom Oh they are, their design language is undeniably feminine, what do you think F Sport stands for
IS500 is the better proposition
The LC500 is a better proposition than both IS500 and RC-F.
Not if you want take it to the track it doesn't have the cooling. The IS500 is cheaper than a regular RCF for that reason.
No manual, no bueno!
Overpriced, ugly, and dated. Agree to disagree with you. Id rather have a LC500 if it has to be a Lexus
We’d both take the LC500 over this.
@@TestDriveVideos LC is not track capable. No trans cooling or brakes and it is much heavier - almost 300kg heavier... Someone prefers the F over excellent LC - I love the LC of course it is a great car to own.
What do you have instead?
The RC just looks so dated. I think the IS500 looks far better
Just another BS car from Lexus where everything smells like the 80's with 90's quality! No matter what Lexus does they always get their ass kicked by the competetion! Don't know what these guys are smoking, but this is just waste of momey , the NON-perfect investment!!!
Hope you watched the video. It appears you missed the sarcasm from the title.
@@TestDriveVideos I tried for a minute or two, but then I was fed up with the looks of it (a brick with a slow V8) and changed channel.... Good sarcasm tho... :) :) :)
@@mikealanzo Sad and negative German style AMG obssesed driver... Enjoy the long term ownership, oh sorry, I forgot you just lease your car and change it every 2 years to impress guys at the local gym. ;-)
@@ghostridertom Hahahahahaha... LOL... You must be a comedian, but please don't quit your job yet!
FYI, I'm a long term ownership type of car guy. My S65 is a 2005 that has been well taken care of so I don't have to call it a money pit! In fact, I hate leasing!!! That means that you don't own the car, and I hate that!!! Nor am I interested in todays AMG's due to all the BS nanny gadgets telling me how to drive my car, not to mention all the BS touch screens that makes me sick!!! Also, I don't have to impress anyone with my car, I'm not buying a car for other people, I buy a car for ME!!! And as you may have figured it out by now, my car is 16 years old!!! WTF is there to impress????? I'm sorry if I hurt your Lexus heart, but let's be honest, never have Lexus been able to compare themselves with the German sport cars! They did it once back in 89 in the comfort department, sadly they're still stuck in that age and time!
Are they more reliable? Sure, you bet! But are they smiles per gallon as the Germans? No! See why I'm dissing Lexus now?! Lexus is a mixture of 3 decades, 80's, 90's and 00's.... That's why their target customers are 45+ aged and on...
I don't understand why this channel exist
We created this channel to separate out our single car reviews from our big comparisons or series on our original "Everyday Driver" channel. Because of our podcast we drive everything from every manufacturer, but that means many SUVs or cars that don't always resonate with our other channel.
So here on Test Drive we are always in the cars together in a more conversational style (like our Podcast) and we drive everything we get. Thanks for watching.
