Holy bananas! Thank you so much for that illustration of "the dip" at 8:42 !!! Seeing that ebb and flow of emotions about a project drawn out so clearly really crystalized the issue and helped me see it clearly.
"the best GH5 lenses for adventure filmmaking" is the title of the video, and you show them sometimes, you rapidly say what lenses they are but no text info, and in the description there is only 2 of them. So if someone is watching and isn't totally fluent in english or don't have something to note when you talk, then the video becomes pointless in terms of having the info I wanted to. Of course it's still a nice video and nicely edited, but I feel frustrated.
I’ve been subbed to this channel for a little bit. You’re one of the guys whose information and insight helped me pull the trigger on the GH5. My voigtlander is coming in today, and I’m so pumped!!! Thanks for providing so much value to this platform!!
So sweet of your wife to naturally compliment you at the end. I say naturally because I agree. I just bought the GH5 and 4 lenses. And you got a new sub, good job!!
Thanks Levi and Janelle for taking us along with you! Your workshop looked epic by the way - taking people into the micro stuff of the process with your edit timelines and lighting and interview techniques. So good
Found you from the running updates and really enjoyed them, just thought I'd let you know that i enjoyed your stuff man! keep doing what you do man, love it!
Levi you totally killed it at the workshop! It was awesome meeting you and learning new trick and tools. Loving to new style and flow of the vlogs as well! Keep it up brother!
I’ve been enjoying your vlog content all along, but have to say that something kicked that enjoyment up a notch with the arrival of Janelle. It’s not necessary to press her into service in every episode, but be aware that there is a chemistry here that works to your advantage. The multi-million subscriber creators like Casey Neistat and Peter McKinnon make use of “sidekick” characters in their vlogs and benefit greatly from them. But no one else has access to a sidekick whose face in repose always offers just the trace of a smile. Your wife adds the most engaging presence anyone could hope for. Use but do not abuse. Production value gold lurks here.
My personal best are lumix 12-35 2.8 and lumix 20 1.7 They cover all for adventure filming plus give you some outstanding low light on e.g. Panasonic GH5. In my opinion a perfect combination, especially that 20mm is sized like a small box of matches
This was so helpful! Just started to study more about videography and you have some wonderful tips! Thank you and excited to follow along with your channel!
Quick question. You shoot in all sorts of challenging conditions. Do you use a protective filter on your lenses? I'm cleaning schmutz off them all the time and I could not imagine doing that on the lens itself all the time. And do you always do a cleanup check before shooting? Thanks.
Awesome video Levi! As a fellow GH5 user I’m geeking out at all the kit you have for it. Do you have any SD cards you’d recommend for the GH5? I’m losing shots left and right for both myself and clients and I can’t seem to find a good SD card that can always record the GH5’s internal formats. The Ninja isn’t really an option for me since I like to go small and lightweight, should I reconsider getting the Ninja or are there SD cards that can handle the GH5 natively? Thanks again man, keep up the videos!
great video Levi, definitely subscribing. Also, Any thoughts on moving to the gh5s (I'm torn)? Also do you see a noticable difference with 10 bit compared to 8 bit? I have seen a lot of videos claiming that there really isn't a visible difference. Interested to hear what you think!
I loved the video... Love the gear, prefer your personality and in love with the country, I have been to the same exact spot 2 years ago at sunset time, it was soooo crowded
Great video Levi as usual, I have been wondering what to get to compliment my 2 lenses the pana 8-18mm and 12-60mm and feel a longer lens was much needed its just so hard to justify the additional weight of the 100-300mm. Do you use a point and shoot at all? I frequently find it my go to most of the time, but then I'm not making high end client content.
I've been shooting on the FS7 and C300 for the past few years with built-in ND filters. Do each of your lenses have ND variable filters attached? (do you use ND filters I assume you need them on the gh5?)
Great stuff Levi, the workshop looks really interesting! By any chance do you have plans to record a workshop and make it available to buy online? Thanks
Why natural instead of cine-d, v-log or hlg? I've been using cine-d but if natural is better, I should probably switch to it. Why do you personally use it? Also do you only manual focus with the tokina? I've tried to use auto focus but it's super loud.
HLG definitely gives you the most flexibility in post. Vlog is cool because there are tons of Luts you can use with it. Natural gives the best look without even having to color grade. It has a nice highlight roll off and "natural" colors.
um.. im here with a problem. i've bought my gh5 like 4 days ago, and.. it is freezing when i want to watch what i have got.. it just keep telling me "this motion image cannot be played", and when im trying to delet it, it says "this picture cannot be deleted" any solutions out there? coz i really love this camera a lot.. or should i return it back, and buy another one?
Shimoda 40 pack? Looks like a nice design...very much like the f-stop bags but more useful. And were you using the DJI Ronin-S while on that jog? The video was super jittery :-( Thanks for mentioning it can control the GH5 focusing..first time I've seen that mentioned :-)
I use 2:1 becuase it's not as aggressive as 2:35:1 for vlog style shooting. That way I have a standard for all my videos and don't need to switch between the two mid video. 2:1 wins out over 16:9 for me, becaause it looks amazing on flagship smartphones
My dude! You are such an incredible TH-camr & filmmaker. The amount of things I'm learning from you is truly amazing, I feel like I owe you money for what I'll be taking to my own channel. When is your next workshop?
One question about the gear: how do you find focusing with the Rokinon/Samyang 50 F1.2? I got Lumix G85 w/ a PanaLeica 12-60 F2.8-4 (which I prefer to the combo 12-35 + 35-100 even though it's not constant aperture) and my beloved Sigma 16 F1.4. I am thinking about buying either the Samyang 50 1.2 or the 85 1.4 what would you recommend (considering what I already own)?
Leftcoast I just noticed something in your video. You first say in the 3 lens set up Rokinon 50 f1.2 and then later in the video you talk about the 50 t1.5 ... so which one do u use?
Levi Allen - the T1.5 is sold as the F1.4 in non cinema body. The F1.2 is a different lens, native for mirrorless cameras. There are no speed boosters for the f1.2.
I know you don't answer a lot of tech questions here...but I'll take the chance and ask...are you using a follow focus on the gimbals at all? I know you said the AF on the GH is a little iffy.
i love gear videos lol, do one every month. but have you shot with the sigma 18-35 on a booster? i assumed almost every gh5 owner used that lens. i just picked it up and im waiting on the booster. just staring at the lens haha
Great looking visuals to this! Pretty nice colours going on too. With nice information. I’m trying to create videos myself with my Sony a7rIII, Would you shoot in S log? And I do most of my things portable as I want To be traveling, I use a iPad Pro 12.9 2017, edit my photos and videos. I use LumaFusion for video. I think that wouldn’t give me the best results for the colours etc. I’ve just uploaded a new video. Peace and love.
Haha, so funny seeing this one right after our tweet exchange :P Super great video and the music is super hip. I'm surprised you're not using the Sigma 18-35 ART like so many have. Any reason you have passed on that one? PS: I love it when your wife is in the video. She's so sweet and you guys are so cute together!
I’ve almost bought it so many times. And rented it several. It’s a touch big for the travel stuff I do, but if I had it, I would bring it. I already have the focal range covered so it’s a tough call. I also find with that lens I’m either at 18 or right at 35, and I find if I’m at 35 I should just put on a 50. And if I’m at 18, I should probably just use my 12mm 1.4.
That totally makes sense and is super heavy, for sure! I need to do more travel with my camera so I can figure that part out a bit more. If you ever come to SoCal, I'd love to meet up, buy you a coffee, and chat! Let me know :)
Holy bananas! Thank you so much for that illustration of "the dip" at 8:42 !!! Seeing that ebb and flow of emotions about a project drawn out so clearly really crystalized the issue and helped me see it clearly.

Totally agree. Inconsistency is big down for an otherwise general gear stuff for the adventure gear.. not lenses.
I’ve been subbed to this channel for a little bit. You’re one of the guys whose information and insight helped me pull the trigger on the GH5. My voigtlander is coming in today, and I’m so pumped!!! Thanks for providing so much value to this platform!!

Thanks for coming down to do the workshop Levi! It was awesome!
So good
Way more in this vid than just the lenses. Love all the details and definitely looking forward to more reviews about those SSDs. Keep it up Levi!
Thanks so much Josh! Appreciate that a lot
Hi Levi, I hope you are doing well. I was wondering which version of the speedbooster are you using? The .71 ultra or the .64 xl?
Thanks!
Miles
the .71 is what I use. The xl is great as well though
@@Levi_Allen Thanks for the quick response! I found a .71 speedbooster on craigslist for a good deal so I might get it.
Levi, dude, you rock! Been subbed and watching your videos for a while now and you never cease to amaze me with your energy and work.
I’ve been enjoying your vlog content all along, but have to say that something kicked that enjoyment up a notch with the arrival of Janelle.

*Absolutely love my GH5!! I'm continuously surprised by the awesome footage each time i shoot. Can't wait for that monitor review.*
Mate, I love the videos. I just stumbled on your channel by accident and Im eating it up.
Accessory bags/cases such as 'pack cube' are underrated - everyone should have at least one 👍🏻
Your content is fresh!! Love the vibez

Please come to Dallas. Im doing the webinar tomorrow but nothing beats in person.
I ended up watching the first minute or so of this without audio and I was still entertained 👌🏼
Great series of vlogs! Enjoyed seeing New Zealand. But really liked this one, seeing some of the equipment you use and how you use it.
Finally found someone that knows how to use the gh5 . The way I've been searching for !!
LOK!!!!!!
LOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LOOOOOK!!!!!!!!!!!
who is she?
I like that Shimoda setup, nice video man. Hope you enjoyed New Zealand
A really nicely put - together vid - liove it. Thanks for putting us onto these SSDs and loving the Shimoda gear too
cages on the lumix series are so cleannn
Wow thank you. I’m learning a lot from your experience.

How do you make it longer horizontally? As if it were an anamorphic.
Awesome video as always Levi! 😊
love these kind of videos dude deff feeling you on the shimoda accessory bags I dont know how I would be getting by with out them right now!
Beautiful!
Locke and Levi together? Awesome!
great video Levi, definitely subscribing.

How do you travel with your gimbal? Do you just put it in your bag or do you use a pelican case?
I can't believe you had the balls to put all of those SSDs and other equipment on the EDGE of a moving boat!! But you gotta do it for the shot, ei?
Buying the GH5 soon, what memory cars do you use to record at the highest bitrate?
Great video and lovely word articulations. :)
I loved the video... Love the gear, prefer your personality and in love with the country, I have been to the same exact spot 2 years ago at sunset time, it was soooo crowded

Matthew's Workshop thanks for the reply I’ll take a look at the lens you recommended
Sad that the New Zealand trip is over!
Thanks for Sharing Levi! Great content 👍
A nifty fifty is a MUST HAVE on the GH5!
I agree, to bad the adapter cost me 700 euro's though haha
Would you say the GH5S is worth the extra money with the better ISO? even without in body stabilization?
I've been shooting on the FS7 and C300 for the past few years with built-in ND filters. Do each of your lenses have ND variable filters attached? (do you use ND filters I assume you need them on the gh5?)
How is your channel not 100x bigger?? It will be, soon enough.
Great stuff Levi, the workshop looks really interesting! By any chance do you have plans to record a workshop and make it available to buy online? Thanks
No nifty 50 and no wide??!! Im blown away dude!
Why natural instead of cine-d, v-log or hlg? I've been using cine-d but if natural is better, I should probably switch to it. Why do you personally use it? Also do you only manual focus with the tokina? I've tried to use auto focus but it's super loud.
he did a video about this topic. Natural profile gives better skin tones and enough dynamic range for his style :)
HLG definitely gives you the most flexibility in post. Vlog is cool because there are tons of Luts you can use with it. Natural gives the best look without even having to color grade. It has a nice highlight roll off and "natural" colors.
Hey man... Great videos... I am from Powell River just up the coast from you.. I have the same set up as you.. Loving it.
Thanks, Levi! Good stuff.
I already miss her!
Have you ever put the 35-100 on a gimbal? Or strictly monopod?
Do you shoot client work in natural also? Any qualms with VLOG? We seem to get mixed results when using VLOG ...
Everything
Hey man have you ever used any voigtlander lenses
Levi, really enjoy your style. I'm interested in your use of the Rokinon 50 1.2, what speed booster mount are you using on the GH5?
2 Ball Sport I’m confused by that as well. The Rokinon 1.2 is native for mirrorless cameras 🤔
Wow you re such an inspiring person! I'd love to go to one of your workshops, let me know if you come to Madrid!
um.. im here with a problem. i've bought my gh5 like 4 days ago, and.. it is freezing when i want to watch what i have got.. it just keep telling me "this motion image cannot be played", and when im trying to delet it, it says "this picture cannot be deleted" any solutions out there? coz i really love this camera a lot.. or should i return it back, and buy another one?
Farewell guys... hope you're back again soon, spread that NZ bug like a loving lurgy! ;)
So now you also have the Røde Stereo videomic pro, I bought it too and loved it. ( i asked what you would recomend for a certain doc)
I might have missed it, but what lens are you using when doing handheld vlogging?
Shimoda 40 pack? Looks like a nice design...very much like the f-stop bags but more useful.
And were you using the DJI Ronin-S while on that jog? The video was super jittery :-(
Thanks for mentioning it can control the GH5 focusing..first time I've seen that mentioned :-)
Which memory card do you use for the GH5 to record 400mbs? Great video! Cheers Levi
Do you manual focus with the 12-35 and 35-100? I just bought them and the focus throw is crazy long! So hard to pull focus with them
I do push button focus most of the time
Why did you choose 2:1 vs scope 2.35:1. There are so many aspect ratios that I can't seem to find what is the standard.
I use 2:1 becuase it's not as aggressive as 2:35:1 for vlog style shooting. That way I have a standard for all my videos and don't need to switch between the two mid video.
2:1 wins out over 16:9 for me, becaause it looks amazing on flagship smartphones
@@Levi_Allen Right...I just discovered that earlier today. The smartphone war. The 2:1 is perfect for them. Thanks for the response!
Do to pull focus with the Panasonic lenes or do you hit the focus button to get focus before recording?
So I’m loving the features of the Ronin S, but what is the best solution for external follow focus for non native lenses? Dji has one but super pricey
How do your lenses hold up in water. Do you trust them in rain without protection?
Nice video Levi. I've been thinking about that see through battery bag you use since the sailing trip. What's the brand on that one?
The bag is from Tenba
Thank you sir!
Is it possible to use the Ronin S along with the Shogun inferno? It has to be an impossible setup with the camera right?
Possible with an arm, in the same way I use my Zhiyun crane
Love your videos bro 💪👍

I am thinking about buying either the Samyang 50 1.2 or the 85 1.4 what would you recommend (considering what I already own)?
I would by the 50. It’s a solid lens and not to tight for handheld work. I love the manual focus of the rokinon
Leftcoast I just noticed something in your video. You first say in the 3 lens set up Rokinon 50 f1.2 and then later in the video you talk about the 50 t1.5 ... so which one do u use?
Leftcoast man?
That’s the same lens. T1.5 = f1.2

no interest to vlog in airports, love it.
Is the workshop online anywhere?
Is the workshop going to be published anywhere?
I know you don't answer a lot of tech questions here...but I'll take the chance and ask...are you using a follow focus on the gimbals at all? I know you said the AF on the GH is a little iffy.
The dji has the focus thing built in, so with electronic lenses I won’t need a follow focus
Leftcoast dude I’m an idiot. I forgot all about that one. I was thinking of the crane.
Did you upgrade the firmware on the GH5 for better AF ?
Does Crane 2 also support follow focus on Panasonic lenses like the DJI Ronin-S?
I think you meant to say that you use a Rokinon 50mm T/1.5 with a speed booster. The 50 f/1.2 is not speed-boostable as far as I can tell.
i love gear videos lol, do one every month. but have you shot with the sigma 18-35 on a booster? i assumed almost every gh5 owner used that lens. i just picked it up and im waiting on the booster. just staring at the lens haha

Hey Levi! I would like to get a nice wide lens for gimbal work and some stills so would your recommendation be the 12mm 1.4 or 12-35?
8:40 in track name? Sick content and tune choice dude. Loving your work 👌👍
What brand is your audio bag from?
Shimoda
@@Levi_Allen Thanks!
There are no speedboosters that adapt a Rokinon 50mm f1.2 to MFT ... that lens is native for mirrorless cameras. Your T1.5 is a rehoused f1.4.
You are correct, it is t1.5
You're awesome dude 🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼👌🏼
I want to know the music in the video!
Need help setting up video on GH5 will pay.
I spent 1 hour with B&H. Watched 4 hours of TH-cam how to... can find answer :(
Perfect timing Levi! Haha my Lens shit the bed and I'm in the market for a new one. 👊🙂

What about a lenses?
Hi left coast!

But where is the lenses.... rikonen tokina etc?????
