Yes you got that right Scott. Three of our local garden centers were destroyed last year and they are no longer selling garlic bulbs nor plants. When I asked if they would ever try again they all said it's not worth it.

Sad news to hear Elizabeth. I have two videos out showing the leak moth devastation on my Garlic, than I have a video showing my final harvest, looked good! BUT. when it was time to peel the cloves for dehydrating I loss another %60 of the cloves almost everything was infested with the larva as well. I also lost all my onions and chives as well. I was very disappointed to say the lease. I didn't plant any chives, onions or garlic this year, I may not plant them for the next 5 years now. Elizabeth cut your loss bag everything and bring it to your local dump, you'll thank me later!
Yeah I too have a few bug nets. In the last 30 years I've never had nor heard of a Leek Moth. The Leek Moth is new to Northern Ontario, I only heard of it last year. This was an attack that I didn't expect.
I've done a lot of research on these buggers and if the eggs hatch and you don't see them right away they burrows into the stock and nothing in today's market works against them. It's now been a while since I cut back the plant's, so far so good.
I've tried to get some bacteria type sprays here, but all that was available was BTK a biological Insecticide. The BTK is mostly good for caterpillars, cabbage and tomato worms, gypsy moth and leafrollers. I went to all our local garden centers and showed them my problem. They all told me the exact same thing. Pull all your plants and burn or bury them there's no hope. Two centers even told me that I was wasting my time by cutting them down. Well I had to take that chance, hopefully it pays off. We'll see in late July when it's harvest time.
Oh no, this isn’t good news. Sometimes fighting off natures pests can be a real pain. I do hope you can find a way to rid these pests. It would be such a shame to lose your crop. I was wondering about sprinkling some diatomaceous on it. It might suffocate some of the larvae. Not saying it will work, but it’s just a thought.

Savers BTK doesn't work what so ever. This parasite lives inside the stock and bulb of the plant therefore spraying the outside of the plant has no effect on the larva feeding / life cycle within the safety of the plant. Savers BTK only works on parasites that feed on the outer parts of a plant {leaves, flower etc.} like mites, ants and caterpillars as an example.
I did ask our local garden centers about Sevin dust, they told me that trying to suffocate the larvae don't work because the larvae safely lives within the plants stem. Not even BTK a biological Insecticide works on the larvae, but may work on the egg sack.

One of the guys I watch sometimes, is using fine netting over all of his crops. So far he hasn't seen any bugs on anything he's growing.

Hopefully that’ll work for you. Have you tried soapy water on them. Not sure how it would work but it works on beetles for me. Good luck.

Never had them before , I did see on google about a natural bacteria spray. Might try that out and spread the crop over multiple areas next time.
