When he requested the trade to Pittsburgh, he thought his competition would be Kenny Pickett and Mason Rudolph. He’s nowhere near Russ’s level as a passer, nor does he play as well in the clutch.
Knowing this, the Bears only became interested in sending Fields to Pittsburgh AFTER Russ signed there because they knew he would wind up on the bench, which is where they want him as Caleb goes through his growing pains.
