Absolutely love this!! With my new 125 I won’t get the chance to go on a motorway until I pass my next test, but I am looking to start filtering through traffic on the suburban roads where I live….haven’t plucked up the courage to do so yet…only did my 3rd bike ride today since passing 😂😂😂 Thanks for filming and sharing this….part of me wanting a bike was to be able to filter and not sit behind drivers who are dawdling in traffic. Top job 👏👏👏👍
I liked the way you where looking for forward and keeping an eye on your mirrors and letting faster riders past, always ride at your own pace if others want to get by let them your not in a race, your riding looked very smooth and in control so very good Ayse, stay safe out there sweet
Nice work. Steady speed and predictable. Good rear observation and awareness. Beware of gaps and filtering past junctions. And don't stick to just the dashed line: move into a free lane when available - the sideways motion will make you more visible. Nice control and it looked very smooth 👍
I find it really satisfying. I like to say to myself "let me see if I can pick my way through this little bit of traffic" and feel smug about how far I get haha
Most of the time I don't filter either, but this road is usually quite good for it. Probably because there are a lot of bikes so cars have already created a gap for the bikers ahead :p
@@ayserides also random question! have you found a cure for the dreaded runny nose whilst riding, i feel like it can’t be avoided especially in this season with THIS weather, but the only way to find out is to ask!
Haha I havent, I've just accepted that my nose is permanently runny from November to January 😂maybe a neck buff? I haven't worn one but might be worth a try
00:35 ah yes the famous right foot "thank you"! Very nice. Imagine living in a country where this is illegal! Horrifying... Very nice hand discipline. Nice loose grip on the left bar and the right. And smart move with the three finger brake covering. 5:19... I'd have been inclined to just hop over to lane 1/2 instead of waiting for that bellend to check his mirror... Also...just know..... That's the correct speed for filtering. It's everyone else who passed you who's wrong. The speed you where regulating was perfect. Don't be fooled into thinking that the speed the other riders where doing it at comes with "experience"! Ney... that's "foolhardiness" they be displaying captain. That can only be earned with tenure. They will keep getting faster and faster until the day someone broadsides them and then they will never ride again. 6:26.... A yes... the arch nemesis of all filtering motorcyclists: Indiana Jones and the crunching wall of HGV's! Well dealt with. Here's a little tip for you. Put your full beams on whilst filtering during the day. It does make a big difference. Another small tip.... at 9:11... perfect example. When you have a gap like that... big enough and in the right position for a car on the right or left to consume if they so desire. Try doing this; ibb.co/zZ8pxP7 Make sure to get that lifesaver inn for any potential mergers from lane 1 into lane 2.... then follow the curve. 10:44 Definitely the opportune moment to hop back over to lane 2/3 whilst the quadrupeds figure out how to drive properly. ibb.co/wNTvFJf That right there Ayse... is what we like to call inn the buisnness.... "FREE REALESTATE!" Use it! It's a broken white... That whole other side of the road is yours..... All you have to do is take it.... And don't give it back unless you have to.... It's your safety bubble from that white car that decides at the last minute that he knows a swell short cut.... Right through the side of your ship! Apart from that, really nice riding. Don't be afraid to commandeer more of the road for yourself.... left OR right!
Thank you so much for this comment, it's so incredibly useful. I'm finally getting more confident with filtering and I see these riders filtering so quickly... I must admit I was wondering if this is what "confidence" or "experience" looked like, thanks for reassuring me that my speed was OK! I'm not sure why I hang so close to the cars on the left when the right lane is empty. I should move out all the way into that right lane. Never thought about being so close to that car who decides to turn around last minute, thanks for pointing that out! I don't quite trust myself to give a thank you wave to the nice drivers who move over for me yet, I'll have to practice that one next haha. It's always nice when they leave a nice big gap for you. I do hope they checked for filtering bikes on the other side before moving out though 😬
@@ayserides You're most welcome. It's great to be able to find other riders like yourself who aren't playing the genepool lottery all ride, every ride xD Keep up the hard work... It really will pay off. That confidence of walking out of the door and knowing that your life is in YOUR hands... No one else's. There are allot of people out there who will tell you that motorcycle accidents are not a matter of "if" but "when"! This true.... if you're an idiot! Which most people are! Which gives the illusion that all people have accidents sooner or later! Ayse, you are not in this category! You are the 1% of the 1%. That, is worth continuing to pursue. As for the waving... I find a nice head nod in their general direction after you pass them is a good substitute. I sometimes use a double flash of my hazards. That's for special occasions, when drivers really go out of their way to make room for me :D
It's always full of trucks and vans too. Yesterday it took me an hour to get into work since there were barely any filtering opportunities (despite the number of bikes I saw zipping between huge HGVs)
Faster than a Ferrari! :D A couple of riders overtook and pointed with their feet. I thought that gesture meant a hazard on the road. What did they mean?
Theres something poetic about overtaking ferraris and Bentleys isn't there? If you're riding in a group other riders might use a foot to point out hazards. In this case sticking your foot out quickly is a thank you :)
That person who had his foot out is the one that’s the hazard on the road. Filtering at that speed they are relying on other peoples skill.. Your filtering was safe and controlled. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 Don’t know if this was said on your bike safe our police officer said while filtering is legal providing you keep your speed down and under control Insurance companies would find you at fault.
@@Cookie69697 yup I think most filtering accidents are deemed the bikers fault, if not 50/50. You don't *have* to filter but if you choose to then you have to make sure it's safe
I find filtering quite scary. Is this a legit way for bikes to move on motorways etc or should bikes just stick to lanes? I don’t have a driving license yet but I will start reading soon.
You don't have to filter at all, and I'd recommend not doing so until you're more comfortable on the bike (I have another video called should beginners filter). Over around 20 mph I generally won't bother to filter
It's fully legal in the UK if that's what you're asking, but is illegal in a lot of Europe and America. Some are in-between, like Germany, where it's only legal if traffic is completely stationary
I fell a electric motorcycle will have being better for this speeds. I'm thinking geting one instead of 125cc Honda. The benefits will be quietness, no vibration, no speed changing, dirt cheap charging, barely any maintenance and instant torque but the range will be limiting. I wish they could able to hit around 300km of range I would not even think about as my first and only motorcycle but as it now around 100km is city limited
Yup it would be perfect for this kind of riding. It's definitely the kind of thing you'd have to charge daily though. Maybe every other day if your commute is short My commute is around a 20 mile round trip so could definitely do a few of those per charge
Great! how are you finding the z400 for commuting? You look very smooth. I am a weekend and holiday rider on mine. When I have been in traffic I found the bike fantasic. Really easy ride due to it's light weight it is also incredibly stable and smooth. You still need to get your heated grips ;-)
I find it great for the same reasons as you, light, nimble, nice and stable at slow speed. Next weeks video is about the mods and accessories that I've put on my bike so far, and how i still need to get my heated grips sorted :D I'm looking at the Oxford premium ones with 9 heat settings since it's only £10 more than the one with 5 settings. Just need to find a garage to fit them for me too :)
@@ayserides 9 settings that’s impressive. I have 5 on mine. I don’t like thick winter gloves, the trouble with the top setting on mine is that it to hot and burney for my thin gloves. I find setting 3 is about right. Once you have yours and experience warm fingers you will never buy a bike without them again. Looking forward to seeing what you have done to your bike.
I don't like filtering for more than a minutes nevermind 14 as the risks are way to high. Seeing the speed that some were doing they were just asking to become a doner 🙄

Thanks! Yep I can definitely see some points where I could have moved back into lane, I'll try that next time :p
Nice. I find motorway filtering more thrilling than running twisties! Good work.
I find it really satisfying. I like to say to myself "let me see if I can pick my way through this little bit of traffic" and feel smug about how far I get haha
I love filtering but here in Liverpool the cars just are so close, like bumper to bumper, that you just decide you cant filter lol
Most of the time I don't filter either, but this road is usually quite good for it. Probably because there are a lot of bikes so cars have already created a gap for the bikers ahead :p
Very tame I must say. The horror show I see in zone 1 and 2 with the tonnes of crazy scooters and aggressive taxis is a bit of a different story.
Yes I find dual carriageway filtering much easier than city filtering
pure riding pleasure!
