On top of being a solid motion control system, The AXIBO PT4 is an exciting new way to work with virtual production through Unreal Engine. But is it any good?

Theme Song by Hello Control: bit.ly/hellocon...
I just realized that these madlads built an ENTIRE self-contained, truly smart Ethernet switch into that compute brain. The "it doesn't matter where you plug it in" solution is something networking engineers and IT have been struggling with since the invention of switches and patch panels.
I've had the PT4 for about 2 years now. Aside from live tracking in conferences with a Sony FX6, I do a regular sports event where I control the iris of a Blackmagic Ursa Broadcast 2 using the Axibo zoom motor - from 2km way via the venue's ethernet. Works a treat.
🤯What a rad tool! This would open up sooo many new types of shots that are nearly impossible without a control rig. 😍
Been wanting one for the past year and i’m excited to see this get more recognition!
@filmriot there is a real lack of clarity on how beginner, solo filmmakers get into Virtual Production. I purchased a course on this a few years ago, but it didn't really elaborate beyond green screen work.
Since you will be creating a future video with the Axibo PT4, it would be helpful to make a separate video series on setting up the five "affordable", popular Netflix cameras - Panasonic BS1H, Sony PXW-FS7 (used) and FX3, Canon C70, and Blackmagic URSAs - for use with Unreal and this system. It will be further useful to know how to tie in an LED projector and, if possible, inputs from physical lights without a VIVE Mars.
I'm more excited about their upcoming affordable robot arm than this thing tbh
Last time I've been this early, Turbulent Displacement Josh just came out
Any short films or film projects coming out soon? Feels like it’s been years since I’ve seen one
Great review thank you.
wonder if they have one with SDI and V/G mount for batteries...
It's was a bit complicated to do this until now! But now it's even more complicated!
What happen to their e-jib? Was supposed to released last year but there were no leading review of people using it since their announcement from the trade show.
This looks like a solid moco system! I heard about it last year; it's great they are continuing to build out from it to offer modern workflows with UE
RYAN, please just make your first feature now! (forever fan)
Would you think something like this could be used for live graphics on a football field? I’d would like to be able to set it up as a high and wide shot with the ability to pan and zoom the camera with the 1st down and other graphics staying on the field. Do you think using this unreal setup far away from what I am shooting would break the graphics?
Now that kyno is a dead product. What do you recommend for local asset management of B-roll on your servers?
That ps4 controller option is awesome.
Man… I want to buy one of these but nobody responds from their company.. I have tried their website chat feature on different days, waiting 1 hr+ and no response or emails back.. Are they still in business???
Ryan, just a friendly heads up. There's a weird de-essing effect that makes you sound lispy. All the best!
Air windows maybe
This controler would be awesome in a Submarine
4:49 "Full six core linux cpu" did you maybe mean six core cpu running linux?
@FilmRiot what's the maximum payload for cameras?
Also if you you can't afford a fancy Unreal supported camera slider or VR trackers, I just made a tutorial on how to control Unreal virtual camera with an iPhone 👀
anybody else surprised when Josh was called, "toolless"?
Great info thx
Nice but I love the shirt
Does this company still exist?? I have been trying to reach out to purchase.
Would it be possible to use this if you were a one man crew?
Yes and I do.
OMG its LITERALLY the controls for the replay system in Fortnite .... THE SAME CONTROLS 😮😃👍
The ps4 controller is a dream come true
Super cool
Cool!
Interesting... doing virtual production physically... tying the old to the new... kinda' like using a stylus/touchscreen to make virtual drawings.
2:00: ha "edge"
Interesting...I love the idea, but apparently I have a different definition of "low budget" than anyone else.
I see the maximum capacity is 5kg (11lbs). Like to know if they ever embrace bigger camera systems like Red and Arri. Any suggestions?
Website states 10kg payload.
🎉
Cost?
2500 plus
I think what is kinda insane, is that for barely 1k more you can buy a whole 6 axis robotic arm (like the ufactory xarm) with a payload of 5kg and sub millimeter repeatability. The few drives and carbon tubes for that price tag are just…. crazy.
I think you still need to see what a camera feed looks like through that; it's crazy shaky and unstable.
At 6:26 you say there is a lot of documentation to walk a user through all of this, but that is simply not true. Axibo has no documentation at all. None. They've been selling this unit for years and there is still no documentation at all as of the Summer of 2024. Good luck figuring any of this out without the Axibo people agreeing to walk you through it themselves. They do have some short tutorial videos that are a few years old, but they only cover extremely basic things. Virtual production is not covered at all. Also, the "virtual production" module you reference in the video is simply not available to customers. I would say it's vaporware, except I think they really tried to develop something. They just have not released it to their customers as of Summer 2024. Whatever they gave you is unique to you. It is not available to customers.
This system is absolutely not easy to use for virtual production. I really wish I had waited for something else instead of investing in this thing. Anyone want a cheap Axibo? Barely used!
I'll buy it
Then we have the controller here which was the very same controller that navigated the Ocean Gate Titan vessel. Too soon?
Too soon.
Sir I want you to do vfx video for
Like you don't have any green screen and camera
You just have good phone and good pc so now how good you make video (vfx heavy)😅 if you do this so I want to see how you do that
So they partner with a company but his opinions aren't affected by that. Lol. Ya, because no one's ever been paid to give a good opinion.
Controlling some fancy and expensive equipment with a controller - what can go wrong!
