Interesting question from Summer about re-recording old songs! SUGA actually said in a game show/interview in August 2021 that there are no songs he wants to re-record "because even though we may feel regret, even that, it's all part of the process". RM agreed with the sentiment and said the vibe is not the same with the original and they'd rather leave the tracks as they are.
PS. It felt like years without CCW danggg i missed this!! 💜💜💜

Adding to what you said, and I don't remember if it was the same occasion or a different one. Suga also said that the original recordings that have been listened to by their fans hold memory and meaning for the fans and for better or worse that's how the fans recognize and remember the songs and he doesn't want to go and try and change that. He thinks it's a mistake for an artist to go and change and "improve" their earlier works just because they as an artist have improved.

The fandom also puts '7' on their names in twitter. They have album named '7' and BTS members got '7' as their friendship tattoo.

Not sure if anybody said it already but WE ARE BULLETPROOF pt.1 was an unofficial release back in 2010 by the initial lineup of BTS - RM, IRON (Jung Hun Chul) and Supreme Boi (currently a producer at Big Hit). This lineup was composed only of rappers since the original plan was to create a hiphop group. The other members left when Big HIt decided to form an idol group instead, bringing in 2 other rappers and 4 vocalists which became the final lineup. They re-released this song as 7 members on June 9 2015 as part of Festa (a whole week celebration of BTS anniversary).
It's interesting to note that they also recorded WE ARE BULLETPROOF: THE ETERNAL as their love letter to ARMY for Festa 2020. I hope you can react to it next.

yes, they were tougher and more aggressive back then, but imagine... you're debuting in a small company with no guarantees and you have very strong dreams and very determined defenses. Bts was so brave from the beginning, I will always admire that. Because we know how hard it is to be so brave at the beginning. We know idols who couldn't make such bold sentences even when they were at the peak of their careers, who didn't care about the facts, didn't add to their words or even got scared. Yes, they were tough and aggressive, but we can understand. They were trying to be the voice of the people, and they were calling out to those who debuted in big companies but kept quiet about things. Their goal was to give hope to people and make their voices heard, from the very beginning. They achieved this very well. Very nice reaction, missed u guys! thank you so much 💜

"SO WHAT?" is 1 of my ALL TIME fav's by BTS & that's saying a lot, bc I've seen everything I could find by them for nearly 6 yrs now & it's A LOT. I honestly haven' heard a bad song yet & that's AMAZING.
Over the 62+ yrs. of my life there's a handful of vocalists/ bands/ groups I can say I've heard every song on an album they've made. Of that handful of whole albums I've heard, maybe 4 or 5 I've loved the whole album. With BTS, I love whole albums, a lot, song after song. The quality of the writing (lyrics & music) is on another level overall, making every 1 worthy to listen to, sparking my curiosity to dig into the lyrics. The songs are enjoyable, delightful, inspiring, moving, touching, thought provoking, encouraging, intelligent or just pleasant to my ears & comforting to my brain & life affirming, love affirming.
New listeners quickly realize the group explores & experiments (kind of) with so MANY different styles & genres of music & that the choreo of each song is influenced by the music's style too. Unique hard to perform dances are the result & that make us feel the music even more.
From choreography with more traditional Korean flair to dubsteppish movements, funky beats in dance breaks, classical piano solos & interludes, contemporary modern dance styles, hard hitting rock-ish anthems, acoustic versions, even barbershop quartet like moves I've seen & an occasional marching band vibe ; it all can be found. They never fail to suprise ARMYS & keep their performances fresh.
I LOVE the diversity they have. BTS's 7 members don't just like one or 2 kinds of music, apparently they appreciate ANY kind, just as long as it's GREAT music. Lol,
I fall in love with atleast 65% of their songs and like the rest of them too honestly. It's because it's ALL uplifting with great messages included that everyone can benefit from.
SO WHAT is my every morning 'wake up and smile' anthem. It is is (Chef Kiss) perfect !

Yes, to be fair though, their ages probably had a lot to do with it too because young men and women at the ages they were back then, are still finding themselves, still learning about who they are & learning to feel secure being their own true selves, so it's natural that they'd do some changing & growing up the rest of the way during those years.

So basically We are Bulletproof Pt 1 originally known as We are B.P.B is an unofficial song by BTS produced by RM. It was released in 2010 by the band's original formation consisting ( RM, IRON & Supreme Boi ).
Later they re-released it in 2015 by the 7 members as a part of the BTS Festa on June 9 2015 (Festa is basically a yearly event bts does every year on their anniversary. so they released it again on their 2nd anniversary which was 2015.
Then again BTS released another song named " We are Bulletproof : The Eternal " in 2020 again on their anniversary FESTA
The 2020 version is more of like a soft and emotional song it also has a M/V and its an animated music video. It has a lot of references to their previous music videos as well.

About Suga's line... In the context that they were being hated by other artists and people from the industry, some kpop groups have "rappers" that in reality were assigned that position in the group because they couldn't sing. You haven't seen other kpop groups but most of them have both things, rappers and vocalists.
Since the kpop industry in some companies is extremely manufactured from the training point of the artists to their musical concept and so on, it is very common to see idols developing positions that don't represent their passion or abilities in the music industry. For example, if you are a trainee that can dance and is physically attractive (according to Korean beauty standards) but couldn't learn how to sing, you'll most likely be given the position of a rapper.
If I'm not mistaken and based on what I've seen, in the hip hop community (in general) is heavily criticized to call yourself a rapper when you don't write your own raps, and think that rapping is just a matter of signing your lines as fast as you can.... Again, since kpop is heavily manufactured for most kpop artists, producers commonly give them their lyrics and they just perform whatever they are told.
In the case of BTS, the management was very different because even before their debut some members had experience in producing music and writing lyrics, they were literally asked to actively participate in the creative process, which in my opinion sets the difference between BTS and other artists. They were given the opportunity to make their music their personal message.
And before someone comes at me 😅 I'm not saying that only BTS writes their music, all I'm saying is that even though many kpop idols are talented enough to write their music, their labels don't allow it. I was also explaining what Suga meant in that line 😊

    • @Mbella354
      @Mbella354 ปีที่แล้ว +1

You are right! It is sad that other labels don't allow their Idols to write their own songs. What a shame for there is a lot of talent in K pop that no one will ever see. ✌💜

  • @bobabiin2703
    @bobabiin2703 ปีที่แล้ว +32

Loved the reaction & missed you guys! 💜 btw Suga wasn’t talking about them. He was basically explaining how he is a real rapper from the beginning and wasn’t forced to rap whereas some other rappers in Kpop aren’t and the only reason they are even rappers is because they weren’t good enough singers to become vocalists in their group so their company’s just threw them in as rappers. Which happens a lot in Kpop. I find the conversation of rappers vs idol rappers very interesting. I think an understanding of the music, the culture, and where this music came from (as well as writing your own lyrics) can really separate rappers from idol rappers. And don’t get me wrong there is nothing wrong with being an idol rapper. Some of my favorite Kpop rappers are rappers that I would consider “idol rappers”. Nothing is wrong with being an idol rapper but there is no denying that the BTS rap line have surpassed that title from day 1. (You could argue that Jhope was an idol rapper in the beginning but I would definitely consider him a rapper now. ) Going back to what Suga said though, I think when you really get into Kpop you start to notice this more and more. Sometimes certain members (not saying they aren’t talented and don’t work hard. They are and they do) make you wonder things. Korea does a lot of street casting so they truly don’t know if a lot of these ppl have talent until they show up for the actual audition and I think sometimes they pass people who are very attractive and then hope to train them so they can hopefully make debut but when they realize their voices just aren’t good enough to be a vocalist they sorta just throw them in the rapper position. Not even just with attractiveness tho, sometimes they find a really good dancer but the vocals just aren’t there so suddenly they are a rapper now because they don’t want to let go of such a talented dancer, and I get it lol but Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. But This is why I am so adamant on the thought that NOT EVERY KPOP GROUP NEEDS A RAPPER. I think companies think we MUST have a rapper but you rly don’t. Because a song with no rap in it is 10x better than a song with bad rap in it.

bulletproof wasn't just for their "skool era", it's their name bangtan sonyeondan which translates to bulletproof boy scouts, they have a third song called we are bulletproof: the eternal which is a fan song, very emotional and talks about their journey for 7 years (released in 2020 in mots7 album) and also their latest album proof comes from bullet"proof" but also holds the meaning of it being the proof of their existence and success since it's an anthology album with all their eras and the concept photos for the album were them being shot by many bullets and their shields severely affected and almost breaking but they survived after all, if you remember in the song run bts they say "run bulletproof run" which is also their name equivelent to "run bts run"
to clarify more about we are bulletproof 1, it was first made by the original lineup for the group which had namjoon yoongi and some other rappers i believe which is why it's a pre-debut song but since that was not the group that debuted, they rerecorded the song again with the current seven members and released it in 2015 for festa (the yearly 2 week celebration of their debut in june)

One of my favorite parts of this song is in the chorus when Jimin says “if you’ve worked harder than me, throw that stone.” That’s very clearly a play off of when Jesus told the crowd that was trying to stone a woman that “he who is without sin should cast the first stone.”
BTS are not only acknowledging just how hard they had to work to be able to reach their debut, they’re also challenging anyone in the industry or the rap community that they’ll gladly take criticism from anyone IF they have worked as hard as BTS has up until this point.
And when you learn abt some of their pre-debut stories (like Yoongi, or Jimin, or Jin…literally all of them idk why I started naming them 😂) then you understand why they chose to make that their chorus.

Oh! Here she is! My BTS awaking song. 😁
My real quick "becoming an ARMY" story:
I already liked kpop at that time, and as Daniel said, it was the era of bad boys and hip-hop, not just for BTS but in kpop in general. So when I saw the thumbnail of the boys dressed like that, I remember thinking "Another one? Let's see this rookies pretending to be bad guys. Haha." And as Suga says in the song, it was normal for companies to pick a kid for their looks or dance and make them rap when they couldn't sing, so I was not expecting much. But the moment RM opened his mouth, I knew they were different. The rappers were the real deal, the lyrics were not just some generic lyrics that a random writer wrote, and the music was hella good.
Have not let go of their hands until this day. 😁💜

So many people say this style "wasn't really them" but the hip-hop style is very them, as a whole group. This song is much more them than say their English songs. Their Dynamite and Butter era are most "not them". I think RM even said they felt lost about their identity around the time of their English songs, since those were so far from their style. Could be also they were very not involved in making the songs, so it contains much less of their personal touch. And I think Suga said something like Mic Drop is much closer to their style. Hip-hop is still their roots and very much a part of their core identity, the group was formed their rappers especially RM. Yes, hardcore hip-hop isn't as fitting for individual members like Jimin or Jin, but as a whole group, they do very great with hip-hop mixed with RnB style vocals. Jimin still fits nicely with his hip-hop dancing background, it's not completely out of his style.

    • @evantesseract737
      @evantesseract737 ปีที่แล้ว

Yeah, I see it as a solid part of who they are. The style didn't suit all of them well, but that's true of almost anything.
I'm glad they didn't stay this aggressive, that it's just part of the story, because they had (and have) lots more in them. But it's still a big part of them.
And I agree - Dynamite and Butter are the least sincere... They're very good performers, but they didn't make those songs. (I actually have less of that feeling about Permission to Dance, maybe because the message is one they really cared about?)

They still have remnants of a gun but it's more turned into a number 7 since then and is a lot less prominent. What's their name?
    Bangtan Sonyeondan ! Bulletproof Boyscouts!
    Run Bulletproof run!
    We are Bulletproof!
    Attack of Bangtan!
Their latest album Proof is a homage to their roots and affirms who they are.
As Namjoon said: "We are bullet and you are our proof A.R.M.Y"
Forever Bangtan Sonyeondan. They will and always be Bulletproof boyscouts.

You know, seeing you guys talking about how different they are from the present, reminded me of the video where they react to their stage debut. Y'all should really react to it. It gives you a whole new perspective on how much they changed and all.

They never re-recorded their song, but I really hope you check out the 2020 performance of this song..their live performances of their old songs give us a taste of those beloved songs in their current style

during promotions of an album, they typically promote 2 songs off the album. So "No More Dream" the main title track, and "we are Bulletproof pt.2" I guess is considered a promoted b-side

Jimin has difficult relationship with gravity and chairs. They are life long enemies. With gravity jimin wins when it comes to dancing and performing but when he isn't dancing, gravity wins. And with chairs jimin never wins. That man and chairs never gets along.

Only Like is like the only slow song on their debut album and they have performed No More Dream later on of course! I HIGHLY recommend this performance of No More Dream live in Japan! th-cam.com/video/GmI5gNuqd18/w-d-xo.html

1:04 it's not a dumb qu🥹, but they do re-done some songs for their concerts, like adding instruments & other beats.
But if you guys taking about how western artist are doing, when the songs went viral
Then there is a video by Vanity Fair, where they asked ,
"If You could re-record one song, which would it be? "
SUGA replied to it & even RM agreed to him that,
even if he might feel regret, even that was all part of process. He personally don't like that & he thinks that it doesn't have that same vibe as the original. So he rather leave the original track as it is.

Daniel mentioned Jimin’s flip over J Hope ( his amazing gymnastics again) but did you notice the move J Hope performed ( I thought it was way more impressive )? When he fell to the ground before Jimin’s jump his legs were bent backwards and flat on the ground. I swear the guy is made out of rubber 😊
