I absolutely loved every time NPH went "Well that's all right then" when the Doctor tried to rationalize all the terrible things that happened to his companions over the eons. The exclamation was both wildly irreverent and deeply condemning at the same time.
I wont be watching the UK is becoming so anti white is it crime & terrorism based the cultures who commit the most crimes are praised daily ISLAM BLACKS & INDIA run the UK the English are vanishing from football TV Streets & Politics
@@AtariDad I can understand that. I felt the same. I feel I can let it slide as it is tradition to have a multi-doctor story during the anniversary period...
@@AtariDadbut to be fair, he got more screentime than any Doctor post-regeneration, they usually get a few lines but he got multiple scenes. Plus it's an anniversary
For those confused how two Doctors can exist at the same time…I mean…technically there are 15 Doctors in the universe at any time anyway. Since they all can travel throughout time and space.
Exactly! It's no different to The Eleventh Hour taking place in the same year as The Lazarus Experiment (2008 in both, despite neither being broadcast in that year). Tenth and Eleventh Doctors having adventures at the same time.
You know this is actually a good way to reintroduce the Valeyard. A generation of the Doctor thats evil. Imagine, one of them regenerating into the next villain.
My feeling is that biregeneration happened because of the Toymaker’s reality warping ability. It is a myth that came true because of it. I don’t think it can happen again Also, Ncuti Doctor says he’s after rehab, so Tennant will eventually regenerate into him after he rehabs. They are out of order. Probably merge back eventually.
RTD did say that they had plans for spin off series and stuch perhaps they have plans for Tennant to work as the scientific advisor for UNIT again on earth like the 3rd Doctor did for his run. Have his series set on earth while 15 is more in outer space.
If they were to do a spin-off that would certainly be cool. After all, Classic Who fans always say the 3rd Doctor era is so different it's kind of a niche taste. I would hope that on the main show Gatwa doesn't interact with him anymore. Now that there's two Doctors I think it's inevitable the show will revisit him again, but I hope they wait a long while. Let 14 have his happy ending and come back years down the road when this is ancient history. I do wonder what the Doc's domesticated life will be like now. After all he is just as much the legitimate Doctor as 15, so even if his Earth life keeps him from lethal adventures, he will eventually regenerate from old age. And that will be centuries, so he'll definitely outlive the Nobles. Since he is retired, I think it would be perfect if he one day regenerates into Tom Baker and becomes the Curator.
RTD gave an interview where he said something like he sees the timeline as altered where every single Doctor bi-generated so that there’s a multiverse of Doctors. This is a ridiculous method to be able to bring back old Doctors as we’ve seen an alternate Earth as well as know others exist so they could easily bring in a former Doctor from an alternate reality. He also said he’s wanted to do no-generation for years and doesn’t understand why nobody has ever written it before so he may do it again going forward.
RTD gets mad respect for even attempting to put a satisfying, happy bow on 60 years of stories AND letting the adventure continue. Also, The life size marionette being practical took me by surprise, I definitely thought they did the whole thing with CGI. Really well done!
Another stolen ccomment. This time from failwhale34 channel. Wtf is wrong with you. Make an original comment, have an original opinion on something ffs!
I've loved every doctor who from 2005 to now , every episode and companion and enemy and each doctor, such an amazing story all of them , I'm a positive person about everything I watch, there isn't much I don't like, and I don't care about if something is woke or not, I'm a real fan of it , of this , marvel, dc, star wars etc I'm not like others where they moan cause it's a certain actor or actress or cause somebody's gay , lesbian or bi or non binary etc , I'm there to see the characters I love and that's enough for me
All three of these 60th episodes had a TON of practical effect, the previous one all the big arms were real NOT CGI...I was dumbfounded when I found that out!
I was so ready to be sad about losing David again and RTD really said "yknow what f*ck it..wholesome option we all want for him and i can do what i want because it's Doctor Who" and I wildly respect him for that 😂😂 really looking forward to Ncuti's run! First impressions seem awesome!
Theory online being that he did it as a sort of real life thing. He left Who originally to care for his sick partner, I believe he died during his time away so here he got to keep David in a way and stay on as showrunner, sorta like an allegory to how he must have felt during that period. I think it's rather sweet.
What I love about the regeneration is that it felt very Classic Who. There were no real rules for it back then. They made it up anew almost every time. The Second Doctor didn't really die; he was exiled and told he was going to get a new body. The Fourth Doctor was being tailed his final episode by The Watcher, which merged with the Doctor when he died to become the Fifth Doctor. Romana, another Time Lord that traveled with the Fourth Doctor, burned through several regenerations casually in an afternoon like she was trying on new dresses. What we think of as the "rules" for regeneration really started with the Ninth Doctor regenerating into Ten. Prior to that, they did whatever the hell they wanted. There were no real rules. So this felt very much like something Classic Who might have done, and I liked that.
I trust that RTD knows what he’s doing.. He has already said that he is currently finishing up scripts for Ncuti’s 3rd season, before one episode of his first has even aired, so he is definitely planning ahead.
I hope they don’t burn Ncuti or Russell out. Traditionally actors seemed to like a break between seasons to appear in other things or just to chill, but they don’t do that any more. Mind you, if everyone’s okay bring it on. 😊
@@karlmortoniv2951 I think because there is no rush to actually get them out when they were filming a year ago, they had some extra time to take it slow and rest between filming rather than full steam ahead. Used to be once a year they had immediate filming for the next series but with 2 series ready it allows Ncuti to do other things like theatre like he wants as well so he isn't strapped down in one show for 3 or 4 years like it used to be. He's able to do other things between filming, so the burnout will be less of an issue.
He did a really smart thing by keeping David's doctor around instead of fan servicing us and taking that away. Now we get to still enjoy David's whenever he shows up again. Finally, now instead of saying goodbye, we get to say hello. At last we have peace.
A group of friends consider that the bigeneration is something Time Lords could have done if the trauma they got was too big to handle. Because the majority didnt live enough to have that much trauma, it became a myth. But because the Doctor is the most traumatized and has lived the longest, thats why he could do it
And now when 14 lives his life like 15 said he did 14 will eventually regenerate and be sent back to when he becomes 15 and separates from his past self to maintain order.
RTD already confirmed this is not an isolated thing. This replaces regeneration. The Doctor essentially activated a biological switch; and he also confirmed that this rippled back through the Doctor's timestream to affect past incarnations. This was all on the iPlayer commentary track for The Giggle.
I think 15’s lines about doing rehab out of order and telling 14 that the only reason he’s “fine” is because 14 fixes himself indicate that the bi-generation was only possible because of the Toymaker’s interference. 14 will eventually regenerate into 15, and that will be after a life (however long or short) of taking it easy and trying to heal. Because the Toymaker killed 14 before his time, and because his power can make anything possible (the bi-generation myth), 15’s essence (I suppose you could call it) was basically brought forward in time to that point. So it’s still a linear regeneration cycle, 15 was just taken from 14’s actual death/regeneration in the future. This most definitely could have been explained better in the actual episode.
I find 15th's line: "I'm fine because you fixed yourself." very powerful because not only it applies to the Doctor, but to all of us as well. Our journey to self-improvement starts with us changing things that we can in the present and doing it constantly until our lives gradually improve.
I'm not fluent in German by any means but as an English person who learned German all through highschool the toy-makers purposely bad half German words were very amusing to me 🤣
The Rules of Doctor Who: #1 There are no rules., #2 Have fun. It’s one of the things I love about Doctor Who the most. The whole franchise is full of “just go with it” and the excitement of seeing how it comes out rather than getting bogged down in the details and the logic.
Ncuti brought amazing Doctor energy into this episode! Glad to see Tennant's Doctor get a satisfying ending after "I don’t want to go". Loved the Spice Girls performance number😂 But most importantly R.I.P to Wilf.
I love the idea of bi-generation! Its like a step forward from the Metacrisis regeneration, which gives precedent for it. I can definitely see where people can find things to be mad at, but at the end of the day Doctor Who is Science FICTION and they can make whatever rules of the universe they want and im here for all of it ❤
Metacrisis at least had limitations which made it interesting. This just felt cheap and lazy. This Doctor won't age normally, is still a Timelords, can still travel when and wherever he wants to and is in this same universe so RTD can pull him out of storage whenever ratings drop. Metacrisis was good storytelling. This was not
@@joevictor53You realize whenever it is finally 14’s time, he’s gonna be dragged back to the point he bigenerates, they even said it was rehab out of order. Doesn’t feel lazy unless you want to find faults in nothing. Also bigeneration was a myth, which became reality probably due to the salt at the edge of the universe. I feel we aren’t done with that part yet.
@@CodedHumor and how do you know that. That's just your head canon because there's other people saying he'll become the Curator so it's clear that no one knows how this works. It's a myth that was never mentioned before and just brought up only after it happened. It is lazy and a cheap way out because they're just keeping things open so they can bring Tennant back whenever they want. There's no negatives to the Doctor in this. They both get their way with nothing bad happening. That's just bad storytelling
@@joevictor53it’s not headcanon 15 literally said “I’m ok because you fixed yourself”. The 14th Doctor is anything but fixed throughout this story which means he still has to do the healing in the future. So if 15 is all healed and happy he must be from this future where 14 has already worked it out. If 15 is from the future then he must’ve looped back to split off from 14 because that’s the only possibility. So it’s canon that he is from the future in some kind of timey wimey way.
Some have speculated that Tennants doctor could eventually become the ‘curator’ doctor that we saw in the 50th - ‘one of the old favourites’. In some ways the bi-generation is just the reverse of what happened with the 4th Doctors regeneration where he merged with a version of the doctor ‘the watcher’ to become the 5th doctor.
I really didn’t know how to feel about it as well. But after watching it again, taking some time to digest, and watching reactors, I’m also liking it all more and more.
Glad you liked it guys. I've watched this show since 1963( when I was 6). I really thought this was a nice send off to the 2005-2023 series . Fresh start with " Season 1" with Doctor 15.
In Wild Blue Yonder, the Not Doctor said that he and Not Donna wanted to go to the universe to "play your vicious games". Then the Toymaker says "my legions are coming". Curious if the Nots are his legions, wanting to play games.
I really enjoyed this special and putting all three specials together, and especially the second one, I'm willing to say this is some of my favorite week to week TV in a long time. David Tennant returning for these three specials was an absolute joy, and the introduction to our new doctor was something I personally thought was executed very well! I'm looking forward to the future! 🙌
Really satisfying, I really didnt want to say goodbye to Tennant again and having him in the same universe at the same time can always give us a chance of joining him and Donna again at some point.
YES!!!! THANKS for following through, guys!!!!! It's clear all and any "Doctor Who" will *never* end (except for Eccleston, if what Greg says is true).... :) I will wait as long as it takes for you folks to do the Christmas Special!!!!
Thought this episode was fantastic, Neil Patrick Harris was amazing hope we see him again. Ncuti is so freaking charming love his vibe looking forward seeing him in his own season. Tennant is my fave so I’m happy that we can see him and again with Donna. Great reaction guys ❤
I absolutely loved these three specials, and the "Bi-generation" scene was fantastic! I loved that it seemed like we were getting ready to say goodbye to Tennant again, only for something to be different, and to be gifted with the delightful personality of Ncuti Gatwa's Doctor, and then David Tennant's Doctor getting to be comforted by the one person who will ever truly and completely understand because it's him. I watched the episode with the captions on, and one thing I really loved and appreciated about the bi-generation scene was that after the new Doctor appeared, Tennant's captions said "Tenth Doctor," which, to me, was just saying that getting to stay with Donna and her family is what should have happened back when he was still the Tenth Doctor, and he would have if Donna had been able to stay with him. It would have helped the later Doctors by giving time to heal, but instead he was left alone and ended up going through so many other things from Matt Smith to Jodie Whittaker and is now finally getting time to heal so Ncuti Gatwa's Doctor can succeed and be in a better place going into a new era of the show.
Honestly, Neil Patrick Harris stole this episode for me, it looked like he was having so much fun doing some silly things. And also, even though he had little time on screen compared to everybody else in this special, Ncuti Gatwa is genuinely looking to be one of the most charming incarnations of The Doctor yet.
I"ve seen a fan theory floating aroundthat Tennant's Doctor becomes the curator and I am fully accepting that headcanon (and partially accepting the one where he is going to regenerate backwards (de-generate?) and that's why he has old faces)
I loved this and I'm so happy. Also, Ncuti is 100% perfect and I am so excited for his first season. I'm going to enjoy watching other people watch this because it was crazy.
I really loved the bigeneration. It’s a huge moment that allows the doctor to reinvent himself and create a whole new era. Classic who was the caterpillar, modern who was the cocoon, and now we have the new who butterfly
The Giggle was perfect. This was truly the first of these specials that felt like a celebration of 60 years of Doctor Who. I loved the framing device of John Logie Baird and the invention of television. Really reminded me of that episode from series 2 about Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation. It had all these great callbacks and mentions to so many characters, most if not all of whom are no longer accessible to the Doctor like Amy and Rose Tyler. Is it wishful thinking to hope that no mention of Martha means Freema Agyeman will pop up again soon? Even though it's very clear that she wasn't mentioned because she lived a happy life and their story didn't end tragically. Neil Patrick Harris was fantastic! I loved the switching of accents. Evil camp is always fun, especially when it’s as sinister as this was. And the “Spice Up Your Life” dance sequence. I still have no idea what the hell bi-generation means. I mean we heard from all the Doctors previously in the reboot that regeneration was super dodgy but making a whole new one is not a twist I was expecting! But this establishes that in a one-on-one-hundred-million-billion-billion chance, Time Lords can reproduce asexually. However how many times can the Doctor make a copy of themselves? The end fight with the Toymaker had the frenetic pace of Ten's fight with the Sycorax way back in 2006. I loved Ncuti’s energy. He really felt like a showman, much more than the other Doctors previously. And because they said he processed his trauma, Fifteen seems like he’s going to be a Doctor who is having fun and not haunted by his dark deeds or running from something. Which is a Doctor RTD never gave himself the chance to write. It's like Fourteen was supposed to go on this journey of trauma healing and at the end regenerate into the happy and fun Fifteen but the Toymaker got in the way. And it looks like we have another RTD mystery box on our hand with The Meep’s boss still left unanswered and now the Toymaker’s “The One Who Waits.” Let’s face it, it’s probably The Meep’s boss. I love that Fourteen’s costume got split between the two so Fifteen spends the entire episode in underwear! But because he got the shows, not only does Fourteen speed the entire 3rd act barefoot and commando, which is hilarious in and of itself, Fifteen feels even more naked. Donna’s “Do you come in a range of colors” is perfect because it addresses Ncuti’s blackness without making it a big deal. _Because It’s not!_ I love that they let Ncuti keep his true accent. I love that we didn’t have to say goodbye to Tennant again. Not really. That scene of him having lunch with Donna's family, really his family, was just perfect and I'm happy that his last words are technically “I’ve never been so happy in my life." You can really hear Tennant’s Scottish accent on “wheelchair accessible.” It really feels like they are setting up a UNIT spin-off. And I am here for it! I need it to be Kate, Shirley, Mel, and the Vlinx, whatever the hell that is, and maybe Osgood (fingers crossed).
There is so much I love about this epsiode. But one thing I love is the reference to Amy, Clara, and Bill. Those three are some of my favorite companions!
the bi-generation caught me off guard at first, but the more I think about it and get used to the idea the more I love it We all wanted David Tennant's Doctor to get a happy ending, and that's exactly what we got not to mention Ncuti Gatwa hit the ground running, I'm so excited for his seasons
It was a masterpiece🤩 I liked everything ! Glad it aired on DisneyPlus. Then, regarding the episode, I enjoyed it! The return of old characters, and the mentions of certain characters (Amy, Clara, Bill Potts etc.) is very pleasant! Obviously the regeneration of the Doctor with the appearance of Ncuti Gatwa was just incredible??? And the happy ending of our 10th (+14th) Doctor at the end moved me… I cried a lot haha. The little we see of Ncuti as a Doctor did me good and makes me think that he will be a very good Doctor in his turn! Looking forward to the Holiday Special 2023 and the introduction of Millie Gibbo as Ruby Sunday 🤩 Special mention to the mini musical scene! I loved it 🥰🥰 (I hope my English is good lol I’m French !)
I feel like they could make a spin-off where David Tennant could go off on adventures. Fun adventures that aren't about saving the world. Maybe they can have guests come for an episode.
At best probably more audio and comic adventures. I'd like to see him come full circle as the chill doctor who becomes the curator for 11. He can be less adventurous and more old guard of the previous generations lore and events.@@AuraHero
This also allows them to keep a Tennant return/cameo in their back pockets for all time in a break glass scenario, even as Tennant ages. Which sort of worries me creatively, but at the same time I’ll never be against spending more time w Tennant in the role.
So bigeneration: The Doctor essentially splits. Tennant's doctor stays and lives out his life and has time to process everything he has gone through, heal, and age. Then when his time has come, he dies, at which point he is transported back to that moment where the bigeneration happens and becomes Ncuti's Doctor, who has healed and processed everything, and is ready for a new era. Wibbly wobbly timey wimey
While I loved Matt S, David was always MY doctor. I was sad to go through the TV trauma of losing him again, but now I can fully enjoy Ncuti's adventures knowing knowing the 10th/14th is out there. Ncuti's presence was amazing and I think the story lines could be amazing and expanded from time to by revisiting 10/14.
What's crazy is Ncuti could be "gone" before his first season ends. With the speed they're shooting (already finished his second) and he said something in an interview about going back to theater work in 2 or 3 years which some attributed to him doing 2 or 3 on Who which would be about average.
My guess is that the loop will close at some point. 15 said something along the lines of “yes, I’m fine because you took the time to slow down and take care of yourself.” I wouldn’t be surprised if maybe later down the line we get another special or multi-doctor story where Tennant ends up regenerating into Ncuti and it leads straight into the bigeneration. Maybe 14 even picks up the jukebox at some point and it explains why it was in the other TARDIS. I’m cautiously optimistic about this right now, but it’s a neat idea at the very least. Plus I’m glad RTD ended up giving us a multi-doctor story in the end after all.
Im so ready for 15. I havent been this excited for a new doctor since Matt Smiths first episode. I love the peppy fun energy they both bring to the character
It's a time loop. Ncuti said, "I'm okay because you fix yourself." Which means, eventually he will turn into the 15th Doctor and be recalled to save himself before moving on.
@33:00 they didn't mention Martha because, "This is what happened AFTER the doctor left you, Donna Noble!" The puppet show was only showcasing the companions after Donna had her memories wiped at the end of season 4. Martha Jones and Rose Tyler didn't appear in the puppet show because they came before Donna's time. The Toymaker was trying to get under Donna's skin just as much as the Doctor's by letting her know she wasn't the only companion to him, and also how he lost those companions (DR who: She died of old age. TM: Well that's just fine then!).
For the bigeneration, I think it's something that happened where 15 was accidentally pulled back through time to that moment and 14 will properly regenerate into him in the future. He already knew that 14 would fix himself over time and be happier, which he couldn't know unless he is still from the Doctor's future. I don't see it as a case of there being two separate Doctors now, but rather that the regeneration went wrong and instead of 14 turning into a brand new 15, it brought an older 15 back to that moment. I still think 14 will regenerate into the brand new 15 at some point, but we may or may not see it.
Russell T Davis has written most of the modern Era of Dr Who, he has currently written 3 seasons worth of story for Ncuti's Doctor, i fully trust he has a plan and knows what he's doing
I wish Tennant had said, at the table with the Nobles, that "I didnt think I'd ever want to stay in one place. But now that I'm here, with you, I don't wanna go."
It's a time loop. Ncuti said, "I'm okay because you fix yourself." Which means, eventually he will turn into the 15th Doctor and be recalled to save himself before moving on.
Personally really liked the idea. RTD said he wanted to introduce this years ago, but never thought the time was right. Now the time is right, and it's amazing!!
33:15 That is what it was. He was playing on The Doctor’s guilt. So, in the puppet show, the Toymaker was only talking about the tragedies since Donna. He didn’t mention Rose. He mentioned Amy, Clara, Bill, and The Flux (from Whitaker’s run). In the Tardis later, 15 is also only talking about tragedies, but from their whole time traveling. Since the first Doctor. He only lists tragedies. Martha left on her own and was pretty much fine. And all of Whitaker’s companions (4 total) were fine too. And, to be fair, Amy, Clara, and Bill all had tragic endings, but are all also fine in their own ways. Even River still exists. What I found odd was that the Toymaker mentioned Amy, but not Rory.
If we are being technical, River is gone, she died blowing up the library but her and the doctors timeliness play in reverse, the first time the doctor meets her is the last time she sees him before she dies.
@@kellypritchard6516 I'm aware of all that, but he saves her consciousness in the library computers at the end of Forest of the Dead, using the sonic screwdriver he gives her on Darilium. We also see her one more time that falls after the library chronologically. When she projects her consciousness in The Name of the Doctor to meet with Vastra, Jenny, Strax, and Clara. She then later follows Clara and the Doctor to Trenzalore and she and the 11th Doctor kiss. This is her consciousness projected from the library computer and linked with Clara, after she's already technically dead. So, River Song's consciousness lives on.
I was dreading watching the final episode because I didn’t want to say goodbye to David Tennant again. I’m absolutely thrilled with the outcome of this episode and I already know I’m going to love Fifteen. The prospect that both DT’s Doctor and Donna might come back sometime in the future gives me goosebumps and happiness!
I did think it was a bit crazy this bi-regeneration, but now I kind of like it. David Tennant doctor was the only doctor who cried not to leave, his wish finally came true. IT also reminds when his hand was cut off and it started regenerating, so this bi-regeneration does have the grounds to exist so regeneration can occur when the host splits whether it be a limb or himself it seems now.
Here's a mind bending thought... now that there are 2 Doctor's what if one of them get's so traumatized that they end up back in time with no memory as a small girl and found by the Shobogan, Tecteun.
Me and John Logie Baird were born and from the same town in Scotland and my primary school (elementary) was even named after him. So I find it really cool to see him represented in a Doctor Who episode. 🏴❤️❤️
The Giggle was a crazy special for sure, but I really liked it. It was both Weird & Wonderful. 🃏❤ I loved Neil Patrick Harris as the Toymaker. Teared up a little seeing the Doctor so happy at the table scene. It was heartwarming to get a happy ending.
I love how the spice girl song 'spice up your life' lyrics basically told us what was about to happen to the doctor. Also i love that it was because of the Toymaker messing with the physics of reality that was the maker of his own downfall as without him the bigeneration and duplicate Tardis could never have happened. Amazing episode and fantastic way to celebrate the anniversary.
Had to immediately order this shirt. The "Child Protection Service" shirt was so high quality, and people love it. This is an amazing concept and execution. Keep up the great work!
To be fair the capaldi face had to be explained as he has played other characters previously. The others had not therefore their faces had not needed to be explained
Im so happy that you guys have been covering this on the channel. I've been watching Doctor who since the first 9th Doctor episode. As a fan from the uk I wish one of these days that i can be able to get on the patreon to watch the old episodes with you guys.
One thing I heard Eccleston say is that after the chaos of his season he, RTD and the producers, and the BBC agreed that he was going to go but then the network and/or the producers announced his departure on their own and said as the reason that Eccleston was “tired.” Eccleston said that he was never “tired” just fed up with a lot of the day to day production bullshit that nobody was doing anything about. He said that for a previous employer to announce that he left a successful show because he was “tired” did his career some harm because people who were thinking of hiring him would have second thoughts because apparently Eccleston gets “tired.” So Eccleston’s still quite raw from all of it, and that’s fair enough. He’s been delighted to play the Doctor again for Big Finish and attend fan conventions but he’s not willing to work for the BBC or RTD and the others again.
And that day to day production stuff was unsafe working conditions and lack of respect towards the lower level workers. He tried to talk about that but RTD, Julie Gardner and Phil Collinson didn't really do much about it. He's fine working with the BBC. He's worked with them several times over the last decade.
@@joevictor53 Oh, I thought he had said he held the BBC equally responsible because they were at least producing partners. I suppose he’s mellowed somewhat with distance. I don’t know how Eccleston got to where he is without being aware that the industry always shits on anyone below the line. Not everyone in the industry, to be sure, but as an institution it’s pretty bad. Some rather high profile deaths in America might have drawn attention to the problem for a bit but I’m not sure much has changed overall.
@@karlmortoniv2951 I thought the same but I heard his voice narrating Ambulance on BBC and looked it up. He's been doing stuff for them pretty regularly since 2010. I'm sure he knows it happens but he just didn't want to accept it without speaking up
@@joevictor53 Dude’s gotta eat, I suppose. Recording a narration is probably a different thing than carrying a show as lead actor. In any case, it’s entirely his call.
I think they dont mention martha in the puppet show because she became before donna... I thought the puppet show was to taunt the doctor via donna to show all the bad things that happened she left
It seemed fitting that the Toymaker claimed that Hide-and-Seek was the second oldest game after the game of "Ball" that Cain "played" with Abel, i.e. after murdering Abel, Cain attempted to hide himself from the Almighty. Or maybe I have Good Omens on the brain XD
The regeneration was a one off thing they said it was a never before done myth and it keeps Tennant around and alive as well as giving him a happy ending which I see no down side too. Everyone unanimously loves David Tennant so keeping him alive is a win for everyone
I'll call it now. The wheelchair unit lady inhaled some of the regeneration stuff in the scene. I bet she's the one that picked up the Masters tooth prison.
I saw a theory on TikTok that someone had that the 14th Doctor can now become the Caretaker (who we saw a Tom Baker in the 50th Special) who mentioned that maybe you would revisit some of the old faces, which we have done already with Tennant coming back. Plus, they suggested that they regenerate the other way to end up as Baker again. And my addition to this is, who are better suited together than an archaeologist (River Song) and a Caretaker to look after the stuff she finds (Tennant as Caretaker). We all know she saw him again as 10th Doctor was too young!
As someone who quit watching DW a long time ago, because I believed the show was becoming too stale, I have to say "I like it." Also, I can't get enough of 15's soft Scottish accent.
This is one of my new favourite episodes ever my no1 favourite is the 50th from an epicness standpoint with the All 13 doctors moment but this is no1 from a wholesome happy ending standpoint
I feel like the bigeneration is the time stream trying to make up for the Toymaker's meddling. He's an extra-universal being, an intruder who just enacts his will on things in a way that doesn't even have any mechanical reasoning. His actions weren't meant to happen, and forcing the Doctor to regenerate when he wasn't otherwise destined to altered a fixed point in time. The Toymaker was too powerful for the timestream to just kick him out or send reapers after him, so it just krinkled in on itself to try and meet the Toymaker's will halfway. Bringing the next incarnation back at the exact point of regeneration to participate in the Toymaker's game, but refusing to let him kill the current one at that time. 15 says he has 14's memories and healing within himself, so 14 will live as long as he needs and eventually regenerate once he gets better, teleporting back in time when he does so.
I was abit like "WTF?" When the whole bi regeneration thing happened but I love the idea that this Doctor who's adventures fans have been following for 60 years finally gets to stop running and be happy. He can do that while the doctor continues on his adventures without the baggage of his past. I also like the fan idea that the 14th doctor could be the curator character from the 50th anniversary. Also I can smell a Doctor Donna series cooking.
I like the idea that 14 goes on to retire, live his life, ends up ‘the curator’ that we see during Matt smith’s special that was played by the 4th doctor. Especially works if you go back and watch that scene. The older 4th doctor eludes that he is Matt’s future not past. Idk could be a nice loop for 14 to be his own thing.
This is actually a perfect way to reintroduce the Valeyard, an evil version of the doctor. When one of them regenerates, its the Valeyard. Imagine the doctor himself becoming the next villain.
There is a commentary episode with RTD, a producer and Tennant for this special, RTD explains a bunch of stuff in terms of storytelling without revealing too much and if you guys can get your hands on it, It's quite an interesting watch. Personally, I really don't have any big questions about the bigeneration. They had to do smth particular for this one after what happened with Tennant coming back and that was a really good way of doing it. And It brings Tennant a happy end, which he really didn't get the first time around ("I don't want to go"). It also kinda RTD way to tell us "hey, we're doing it all over again", kinda retcon thing. I'm with it 100 percent. Ncuti was on screen for a few min and he's already oozing the charm and charisma I was expecting (because of watching Sex Education, where he's defo my favourite character).
The reason Toymaker never mentioned Martha or any of Whittaker's companions is because they all survived and are fine, he was trying to both scare Donna and make the Doctor emotional
Doing Therapy In Reverse: In the TARDIS, 15 tells 14 that he [15] is fine because 14 got better; i.e., he stayed put with Donna (at least for awhile - though still carrying on having the occasional adventure: which will also explain any future absence on Earth when a catastrophe strikes and 15+ has to sort it themselves [of course, there are now three David Tenant Doctors' time streams criss-crossing all the time now, if you count the alternate universe 10]). But I also wonder if The Curator could possibly be from a future regeneration of Tenant's 14th...?
I just wish we've had more time with the Toymaker in those specials. They made him to be this extremely powerful villain and it felt too easy to defeat him in like 20 minutes. Hopefully this wasn't the last we've seen of him.

The Toymaker only mentioned companions that died, which is why he didn’t mention Martha or Yaz, Graham, or Ryan.
I absolutely loved every time NPH went "Well that's all right then" when the Doctor tried to rationalize all the terrible things that happened to his companions over the eons. The exclamation was both wildly irreverent and deeply condemning at the same time.
From the moment Ncuti appeared, he made a massive impression, he's oozing with charm

he's got that Doctor je ne sais quoi in spades.
I feel like the fact that he was sharing the screen with another Doctor really took away from it all.
@@somerandomguy2073 Exactly. Great reference. Some fans are just over thinking it.
Yeah but the difference is they are all part of one timeline, we now how two separate entities
You know this is actually a good way to reintroduce the Valeyard. A generation of the Doctor thats evil. Imagine, one of them regenerating into the next villain.
@@charg1nmalaz0r51 How is that truthfully different than any Doctor just retiring and being on Earth in 2023? It isn't
My feeling is that biregeneration happened because of the Toymaker’s reality warping ability. It is a myth that came true because of it. I don’t think it can happen again
Also, Ncuti Doctor says he’s after rehab, so Tennant will eventually regenerate into him after he rehabs. They are out of order. Probably merge back eventually.
I think it'd be cool at the end of 15's life, he and 14 re-unite to merge and become the 16th doctor and we're back on the usual regeneration track.
RTD did say that they had plans for spin off series and stuch perhaps they have plans for Tennant to work as the scientific advisor for UNIT again on earth like the 3rd Doctor did for his run. Have his series set on earth while 15 is more in outer space.
Pretty much this!

All three of these 60th episodes had a TON of practical effect, the previous one all the big arms were real NOT CGI...I was dumbfounded when I found that out!

garbage.
I never even considered that, that really makes it better with those lenses on, thanks !
Third? I haven't heard about that, only that Nctui has at least two.
@@HellfireComms Tennant, Smith, Capaldi, AND Jodie had 3 series. Makes sense to me.
But because the Doctor is the most traumatized and has lived the longest, thats why he could do it
Interesting 🧐
And now when 14 lives his life like 15 said he did 14 will eventually regenerate and be sent back to when he becomes 15 and separates from his past self to maintain order.
I love that!
A theory I have heard is, that the myth became reality because the Doctor did the salt-thing!
@@romanticrockstar94 indeed
RTD already confirmed this is not an isolated thing. This replaces regeneration. The Doctor essentially activated a biological switch; and he also confirmed that this rippled back through the Doctor's timestream to affect past incarnations. This was all on the iPlayer commentary track for The Giggle.
Really loved Ncuti's performance, its so full of energy. Looking forward to his tenure
Man I loved this episode . They couldn’t have ended it in any better way. I cannot wait to see Ncuti in full force.
I'm not fluent in German by any means but as an English person who learned German all through highschool the toy-makers purposely bad half German words were very amusing to me 🤣

Loved the Spice Girls performance number😂
But most importantly R.I.P to Wilf.
@@joevictor53 why is nothing bad happening bad storytelling. Some times happy endings are nice
In some ways the bi-generation is just the reverse of what happened with the 4th Doctors regeneration where he merged with a version of the doctor ‘the watcher’ to become the 5th doctor.
gonna make me worry we might get the Valeyard outta this doctor.
Ending was totally 'Doctor heal thyself'. Ncuti is going to be the self-care doctor. :)
24:31 I always knew that the Doctor needed some self-love, I just didnt think he would get it LITERALLY.
This episode really just put the Doctor to therapy and I live for this

Thanks for reacting guys, you two are the best! 💗
Your absolute annoyance to the idea in your reaction was so funny, but I'm glad you're coming around to it! It's taken me some time as well.
Those 14th doctor special episodes are amazing! This seems like a new golden age for Doctor Who.
The bi regeneration feels like a mix of events that lead to it with the toymaker gun making it happen finally
There is so much I love about this epsiode. But one thing I love is the reference to Amy, Clara, and Bill. Those three are some of my favorite companions!
the bi-generation caught me off guard at first, but the more I think about it and get used to the idea the more I love it
We all wanted David Tennant's Doctor to get a happy ending, and that's exactly what we got
not to mention Ncuti Gatwa hit the ground running, I'm so excited for his seasons
It was a masterpiece🤩
I liked everything ! Looking forward to the Holiday Special 2023 and the introduction of Millie Gibbo as Ruby Sunday 🤩
Special mention to the mini musical scene! I loved it 🥰🥰
(I hope my English is good lol I’m French !)
I feel like they could make a spin-off where David Tennant could go off on adventures. Fun adventures that aren't about saving the world. Maybe they can have guests come for an episode.
Probably working with UNIT on a smaller scale, especially with Donna looking to have a job with them now.
At best probably more audio and comic adventures. I'd like to see him come full circle as the chill doctor who becomes the curator for 11. He can be less adventurous and more old guard of the previous generations lore and events.@@AuraHero

So now, my head canon of, David Tennants acting rolls are all just the Doctor living his best life, IS SECURED FOREVER. 😂❤❤

They both played the game so they both get a prize makes perfect sense to me
My guess is that the loop will close at some point. 15 said something along the lines of “yes, I’m fine because you took the time to slow down and take care of yourself.”
I wouldn’t be surprised if maybe later down the line we get another special or multi-doctor story where Tennant ends up regenerating into Ncuti and it leads straight into the bigeneration.
I mean ig time will tell. I don't believe it's a timeloop.
Exactly, I don't get why people aren't getting that
@@King_Zangetsu12820it's literally what he said tho
What did you think of the Bi-generation?
I thought it was really cool and shares the message that ppl need to slow down and take breaks in order to stay healthy.
I'm all for it. Regeneration episodes have become too generic in Doctor Who. Something had to be done in order to shake things up.
I’m OK with it as long as down the line they re-fuse together.
Ncuti vibes comes out really great like he's the real main main doctor, the old jolly doctor, tenant a very confused, tired doctor
That gold tooth eluding to the master coming back is too much.
I am so glad they didn't kill Donna like they seemed to keep threatening to lol
EVERYONE GETS A HAPPY ENDING ❤
... I saw someone else posit that 10/14 will now become The Curator , who we saw in Day of the Doctor as Tom Baker's #4
@@karlmortoniv2951 that's just one thing I mentioned. He's also appeared as the lead in plenty of other stuff
I understood that bigeneration is a myth but was possible because they were under the domain of the toymaker
The toymaker was mentioning companions after Donna who had died. All those others did not die, that's why they are not mentioned
32:53 because they were talking about all the companions AFTER Donna
1:02:58 Melody Pond did tell Rory to shut up when she was regenerating into River because she was “focusing on a dress size”
This is one of my new favourite episodes ever my no1 favourite is the 50th from an epicness standpoint with the All 13 doctors moment but this is no1 from a wholesome happy ending standpoint
I really hope we get a Doctor Who spin-off with David and Catherine travelling
1:09:39 I’m pretty sure it was the same hand that picked up The Master’s ring out the ashes of his funeral pyre at the end of S3E13
The one who waited... nah probably not they're probably either a new character or Omega to have more power than the Toymaker.
The guys stole the 14th doctors lines and didn't notice 😂
21:22 - 1st guy "What", 2nd guy "What", Toymaker "What"
Brilliant
My only question: How does 14's rehab/healing get exported and imported into 15?
