@@ArmyGreensTanBoots scalarworks makes some of the best mounts. Aridus makes some good stuff too but that rear iron sight at the back of the crom isn’t needed because you still get to keep your rear iron when installing the sync mount. Definitely won’t be disappointed with it. Thank you.
The scalarworks mount positions the dot a little further up the receiver as compared to the Reptilia mount. Is there a benefit or preference for this? Trying to decide between the two mounts.
@@jnananinja7436 Usually having the dot farther away from your face makes it a little easier to pick up the red dot and doesn’t block as much of your vision. This only being about an inch further, won’t really be a huge difference. Ive never used reptilia so I can’t vouch for them but I can for scalarworks. They make some of the best optic mounts in the industry. Durable, lightweight, screws come with thread locker on them, they give you a torx key bit to install the mount, and great packaging. The design also looks a little better to me. Given they are the same price, I’d definitely recommend the scalarworks mount and I prefer them. They make great stuff. I have 4 of their mounts.

@@toddroberts1493 If you find a thicker flat head screw driver or bit and you put a lot of downward pressure on it you should be able to twist it out. If not, there’s bits or kits you can buy online to remove stripped screws. I haven’t dealt with many stripped screws so I don’t have a specific method for you, sorry.
Optics are an improvement to any weapon you put them on, in regarding a shotgun I think they are the least beneficial because of spread of buckshot, how big a slug is, and how little distance your actually shooting. It’s still makes things easier, but by no means is it necessary on a shotgun. Iron sights are plenty sufficient especially for home defense or close quarters. But if money is no issue, I think it provides a good benefit. Just not as much as say a rifle or pistol. I talked about the kickoff system in the video where I did a whole review on this gun when I first bought it. Unfortunately the kickoff system only works with the standard stock. It will not work with the pistol grip. If I had the standard stock I would definitely try it out. It’s supposed to give a 40% felt recoil reduction. This thing has some decent kick so I think it’s worth it to try out the kick off if possible. Unfortunately I don’t have the standard stock version to test it and make a video on it. It sounds awesome, I would recommend it if you have the standard stock version. When I looked into it, there wasn’t a ton of information or testing on it. Just some forums and conversations. Aridus shot card coming next, then sling, then light.
@@GearAndGuns As of now, on the beretta website it says the part is incompatible with A300 and 1301 models but everyone is saying that it’s compatible with the mod 2. It’s out of stock currently but I think I’m going to pick one up. Because the gun is so lightweight it does have some decent felt recoil even for a gas operated semi auto. If I get my hands on one, I’ll try to do an install video because there doesn’t seem to be one out there as of yet.

I saw on some forums or posts that it’s also compatible on the mod 1 standard stock as well. I think they have the same stock with no changes so I don’t see why that wouldn’t work but would need to confirm with beretta. They must’ve not updated their website. It was in stock so I’m sure a bunch of people bought it when this came out. Optics planet sells them as well if you want to buy one from them, just make sure they actually have it in stock or the lead time could be ridiculous. Yeah definitely give it a shot, install video would be sweet. I think you just pop off the end plate of the stock and stick it in but not sure.
Great post, I'm a newbie to red dot and shotguns so my stoopid question is: when you say co-witness does that mean the red dot is your front sight so when aiming downstream you put the red dot directly on the front white iron sight? Or does it hover above the front white iron sight as shown in your video?

If you look up on google “scalarworks sync 02 mount” and click scalarworks website, it will show you an exact picture at the top of the listing of what it looks like. You can also look up “absolute co witness iron sights” and that will show you a visual as well. For this mount (which is an absolute co witness mount) and gun you’ll pretty much be looking into your rear circle iron sight, then you’ll see your red dot which will be lying on the tip of your front sight post. It will slightly vary between person based on body type, where your cheek weld/stock shouldering is, and what mount and optic you use. But absolute co witness is usually where the iron sights are inline with your red dot. If you have a cheek riser like on this gun, I can move the cheek riser up to where my eyes are more in line with my red dot and the red dot sits a little above the iron sights. Or if you don’t like the iron sights you can take the front iron sight off and adjust the rear iron sights down so you don’t really see either. 1/3rd co witness is what your iron sights sit at the lower 1/3 of your optic glass so your red dot will sit above your iron sights. Hope this helps.

As you already know this model has the pistol grip with Mesa tactical stock so I should be able to align my iron sights which I definitely want to keep with the optic. Gotta say good optics ain't cheap but this is kinda my grail shotgun so it's all good, don't have to buy all the extra goodies right away. There something to say for delayed gratification (I'm 60). Only thing you really need is some ammo for the side of the gun, a sling and a flashlight. Red dot is kinda extra. Appreciate that. Will do.
Great video! Still conflicted between CROM/Micro setup or this with the Scalar and ACRO. If money wasn’t a variable, would you still choose this over the Micro? I have no experience with an ACRO.
@@joepbugnaiii296 thank you. Can’t go wrong with either setup, they’re very similar but I think the t2 performs slightly better as a red dot. I personally like the t2 better but went with the p2 because it’s 300$ cheaper. I like how with the p2, I can still keep my stock rear iron sight. I’ve seen some complaints about fog inside the acros glass. I’ve not had this happen to me. For the beretta 1301 specifically, I think I’d go with the acro p2 and scalarworks mount, because of being able to keep my rear iron sight and because I like scalarworks mounts more. On my benelli m4, I went with the t2 and scalarworks mount because that setup allows me to keep the stock iron sight, beretta does not. Not a huge deal just personal preference. Acro is similar to t2, turrets are slightly different and there’s buttons instead of a turn dial for the brightness. P2 can be harvested off to a pistol,shotgun or CAN be used on a rifle. T2 can be harvested off and put on another shotgun or rifle. Just some things to consider. If you need money for other things like training or gear, I’d just get the cheaper option and use the 300$ for something else. But if you don’t like the p2, and want to stick with a t2, that’s fine as well. Really just comes down to preference, you won’t be making a mistake choosing one over the other. They both just have some slight pros and cons went choosing which to mount specifically on the beretta. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have anymore questions.

That said I went with an aridus half moon in the back to open up the sight picture a bit. Put a couple of small white dots on the top of the half moon on each side. Might be over kill?
Also. After my first install of the scalar works and acro, in which I used the SW factory lock tight. I also lock tighted my Acro. I went and took my 1301 sport clay shooting with some practice. Ran about 150 rounds through the gun. I notice about half way through I started missing more than when I started. Got home noticed my co witness was off. Everything seemed tight but I went and remounted the mount and sight, and made sure there was enough new lock tight on the mounting screws for the SW mount and acro. Threads and crown. Haven't shot it since but It went back to co witness with out touching the zero of the sights.
@@Bushy_P I preferred keeping the stock rear iron sight. I understand opening the rear sight. I wouldn’t say it’s overkill. I just personally don’t like seeing 4 dots when I’m mainly using my red dot. Can be a little distracting.
@@Bushy_P If you’ve gone back through and thread locked everything again, remounted to torqued everything to spec or a decent hand tight you shouldn’t have anymore problems. I’ve had it happen to me once where my red dot zero was moving around. I accidentally maxed out the zeroing windage or elevation turrets. I went back and zeroed it properly, had my red dot pretty much in the center of the glass and didn’t have issues then. Sometimes if you max out the zeroing turrets, your zero can move around. I would double check your iron sights too. Those have a tendency to move around as well. You could remount those with loctite or at least the rear. I recall someone saying the rear sight needs to be remounted with loctite because it came loose. I didn’t do that myself that’s just what I heard. 4 possible problems I would think it is. Improper mounting or torque, zero turrets maxed out causing zero to shift, iron sights are moving on you, or there’s something wrong with the acro. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have anymore questions.
@@jc51373 co witnessing means I can see my iron sights through the optic or see them both at the same time. It’s not illuminating the existing sights. If my optic fails for whatever reason, i can see my rear iron sight, look through the optic and then line up my front iron sight. If you type in on the internet “iron sight co witness” then go to the images section, it will give you a visual representation of what iron sights co witnessing looks like.

@@GearAndGuns The issues with the MRO have not been resolved. You can see the chipset reflecting in the glass in glare situations, I tested it out. The sight picture overall is awesome but that and the battery life when using the circle reticle is a deal breaker. The T2 is smaller but at least no bugs in the design.
@@jc51373 that’s annoying. Not a huge fan of the circle reticle myself but I could see why you’d like that on shotgun. Could try using the circle dot only? Not sure how bad the chip set reflection is. T2 is a solid option. If you really want the circle dot you could get an Eotech but battery life is bad on that too.
EDIT 25 minutes later** Oh shit nvm I just realized Holosun 507 is RMR so I got it....lol what a dumb ass... This comment section gave me some good points to consider. I've been rackin my brain trying to decide what to run on a a300 patrol. I assume I have the same option with the same kind of rail (or replacement of said rail) I want to run the Holosun 507 I think thats the one. Only because it can to the 32 MOA circle no dot which will be where my 9 00 bucks fall. I'm running into a problem though. What damn mounting plate will fit that? Every thing I'm seeing mentions Aimpoints or Trijicon... I'm about to break down and get a $99 optic from Academy to hold me over while I study this.
@@CBDsutty Glad you were able to get that figured out. I’m seeing that the a300 and beretta 1301 have the same screw pattern for the picatinny section. There’s plenty of rmr mounts for this so whichever one you like or that fits your budget get that one. I like Scalarworks obviously but it is more pricey.
There’s Not a reliable red dot for a shotgun you said???? I’ve been running a $120 sig Romeo 5 on my 1301 tactical for the past 5 years with easily over 2,000 rounds through it!!!!! Not one failure NOT EVEN ONE 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
@@b6343 I didn’t say there wasn’t a reliable red dot. I said that cheaper red dots are less reliable and more likely to break especially on a 12 gauge shotgun like this because of its recoil impulse. I don’t recommend them, but that’s good for you that you haven’t had a failure.
@@GearAndGunsHolosuns are great on these guns. I’ve had no problems with my 3 Holosuns but of my 3 Aimpoints, one has had to go back to Sweden for an overhaul. Don’t talk them down unless you have a bunch of rounds down range with them.
@ Don’t need tons of rounds down range to know that holosuns are cheap Chinese junk, plenty people have testified to that. Sure they’re fine for range use but they’re not reliable and I won’t recommend them or use them. Not going to risk my life on stuff that isn’t battle tested to save a couple hundred dollars. I’ll take aimpoint over holosun any day for self defense. If you haven’t had problems with them good for you, but I’ve seen and heard more failures on holosuns than any other optic. It would be dishonest and misleading of me to recommend them to people. I’m trying to help people not steer them wrongly.
@@rhodycars6058 No I prefer not to run a holosun on a 12 gauge shotgun when I can run an aimpoint, Eotech, or Trijicon that’s more reliable. The recoil impulse of a 12 gauge shotgun is hard on optics and has a higher likelihood to break cheaper optics like holosun. Holosuns are some of the most common optics to break, fail, or have problems and I’ve seen it happen. They’re decently fine for range use on pistols, rifles and occasionally I’ve seen people run them on shotguns but when my life is on the line in a combat situation I do not trust them and prefer more reliable proven options. If you wanna run them that’s your choice or if money is tight I understand that. I would recommend to save up for a more reliable optic but you’re obviously free to do as you please.
@@GearAndGuns 1. What combat situation are you talking about. 2. Holosuns are actually being fielded in the Ukraine war currently. 3. Aaron at Sage has done expensive testing on holosuns to the point where the 509t beat out the acro.
@@rhodycars6058 I’m talking about any defense situation I’m in. I understand the acros have had some problems but it’s small compared to how many are out there. From what I’ve seen and my experiences with the acro, I personally would choose an acro over the 509t. Aimpoint makes reliable products. I’m not familiar with sages testing between them. I don’t think holosuns are terrible, I understand a lot of people run them because they’re decent budget options, but they’re definitely lower on my list and wouldn’t be my first option. They’re most likely being fielded in Ukraine because they’re cheap.

I assume I have the same option with the same kind of rail (or replacement of said rail) I want to run the Holosun 507 I think thats the one. Only because it can to the 32 MOA circle no dot which will be where my 9 00 bucks fall.
I'm running into a problem though. What damn mounting plate will fit that? Every thing I'm seeing mentions Aimpoints or Trijicon...
I'm about to break down and get a $99 optic from Academy to hold me over while I study this.
@@CBDsutty Glad you were able to get that figured out. I’m seeing that the a300 and beretta 1301 have the same screw pattern for the picatinny section. There’s plenty of rmr mounts for this so whichever one you like or that fits your budget get that one. I like Scalarworks obviously but it is more pricey.
There’s Not a reliable red dot for a shotgun you said???? I’ve been running a $120 sig Romeo 5 on my 1301 tactical for the past 5 years with easily over 2,000 rounds through it!!!!! Not one failure NOT EVEN ONE 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
@@b6343 I didn’t say there wasn’t a reliable red dot. I said that cheaper red dots are less reliable and more likely to break especially on a 12 gauge shotgun like this because of its recoil impulse. I don’t recommend them, but that’s good for you that you haven’t had a failure.
@@GearAndGunsHolosuns are great on these guns. I’ve had no problems with my 3 Holosuns but of my 3 Aimpoints, one has had to go back to Sweden for an overhaul. Don’t talk them down unless you have a bunch of rounds down range with them.
@ Don’t need tons of rounds down range to know that holosuns are cheap Chinese junk, plenty people have testified to that. Sure they’re fine for range use but they’re not reliable and I won’t recommend them or use them. Not going to risk my life on stuff that isn’t battle tested to save a couple hundred dollars. I’ll take aimpoint over holosun any day for self defense. If you haven’t had problems with them good for you, but I’ve seen and heard more failures on holosuns than any other optic. It would be dishonest and misleading of me to recommend them to people. I’m trying to help people not steer them wrongly.

@@rhodycars6058 No I prefer not to run a holosun on a 12 gauge shotgun when I can run an aimpoint, Eotech, or Trijicon that’s more reliable. The recoil impulse of a 12 gauge shotgun is hard on optics and has a higher likelihood to break cheaper optics like holosun. Holosuns are some of the most common optics to break, fail, or have problems and I’ve seen it happen. They’re decently fine for range use on pistols, rifles and occasionally I’ve seen people run them on shotguns but when my life is on the line in a combat situation I do not trust them and prefer more reliable proven options. If you wanna run them that’s your choice or if money is tight I understand that. I would recommend to save up for a more reliable optic but you’re obviously free to do as you please.
@@GearAndGuns 1. What combat situation are you talking about. 2. Holosuns are actually being fielded in the Ukraine war currently. 3. Aaron at Sage has done expensive testing on holosuns to the point where the 509t beat out the acro.
@@rhodycars6058 I’m talking about any defense situation I’m in. I understand the acros have had some problems but it’s small compared to how many are out there. From what I’ve seen and my experiences with the acro, I personally would choose an acro over the 509t. Aimpoint makes reliable products. I’m not familiar with sages testing between them. I don’t think holosuns are terrible, I understand a lot of people run them because they’re decent budget options, but they’re definitely lower on my list and wouldn’t be my first option. They’re most likely being fielded in Ukraine because they’re cheap.
