Sealing waterslide is easy and such an easy way to add decals to your Cups & Keychains! I get most of my designs from Creative Fabrica these days! Here is my link: www.creativefabrica.com/ref/455608/
Thank you Allison. I am a beginner and want to take my craft seriously but also, enjoying the learning experience and you have made that possible for me. I’m a fan😊😊😊
Hi , I’m new to working with tumblers . I covered a white tumbler with a water slide and the trim of clear water slide that wasn’t cut off turned yellow after I added resin . Do you happen to know what I did wrong ?
I'm new to this. What I don't understand is whether or not the image has to be sealed onto the actual mug? How long does the glue on the backside of the decal last? Does that make sense?? LOL Once I've adhered the decal to the mug, do I need to go back and cover the mug AND decal with something like mod podge or will the decal stay in place? Thank you so much for sharing!
you have to seal the image on the paper if you have an inkjet printer. This type of decal gets submerged in water so it needs to be sealed so the ink doesn't run. Once it is on the surface it will not move once it is dry. It just needs to be sealed with Brite Tone after it is on the cup for extra protection. I seal with Brite Tone after it dries on the cup for 24 hours.
@@AlisonCrafts hi I’m new to this too. I have the supplies but too scared to try it yet. So once the image is on the mug and dries, how do you seal with brite tone? Do you have a video for the final step? Thanks!
Thanks for the short but detail explanation. I especially liked the why of waiting 24 hours before using. I did one on glass but didn't wait 24 hours should I seal it? If so what should I use. I am giving them as a gift.
Can you help me with a little more detail...did you spray the waterslide? and just apply quickly? As long as you wait 48 hours from the last spray paint you should be fine to seal!
Alison, I am trying to add waterslides in a custom bike paint project. I am working with solvent based paint and clearcoat (polyurethane clear). Hayes Paper say acrylic clear coat. Can I successfully us polyurethane clear coat? I tried it and failed. I printed the decals using a color laser printer 2 days ago (they look GREAT on the Hayes Paper). Then clear coated 3 light coats last night using an airbrush, and this morning applied my test decals to pvc pike (simulates bike tube). The color immediately came off the waterslide. So it didn't work at all. Not sure if I have a bad chemical reaction using urethane or what. The urethane can be sanded in 20 minutes, so I would think my issue was not drying time. Any thoughts?
Hello! When I went to apply the white waterslide, it tore, crumpled, and the ink ran off easily. This was my first time so its possible I didn't spray enough but my question is, is the plasti dip necessary? I only ask because I have Hayes waterslide and the instructions for it never mentioned it. Thanks!
dumb question but can i paint the sealant on instead of spray? I am asthmatic and I have zero desire to get any sprayback on me at all when I am such high rish for anything irritating my weak llungs. I would just like to paint over the decal with the sealant.
After sealing and letting sit for 24 hours, I brought my waterslide in the get cut and ready to apply to my pens and they still smell like the sealer. Is that ok? Should I leave them outside until tomorrow?
Hello I hope even though these videos are around 2 years ago? That you still look into them and see my post? I did like you said waiting 30 minutes before applying the clear coat over the plastic dip? And I have here a picture of how it looks and I was wondering if it’s supposed to look like this?
Hi Allison! I am having difficulty with waterslides and them actually adhering permantly to the surface. What steps do I need to do after I let the waterslide dry for 24 hours? Do I have to mod podge or epoxy the surface after? Anytime I do the waterslide and wait to dry, I then attempt to wash the product and the waterslide starts coming off with hand washing. Thanks!
Yeah you want to seal it with some sort of top coat after your done! I use CrystaLac but whatever you use will be fine! Unless you are using ceramic, then you can bake it on the surface!
If I do this whole process like in the video, if I put it on sublimation tumbler, will it still need to be sealed while on the cup? Or will the heat work for it? Or is a water slide even able to go on sublimation tumbler? Thank you!
Can you use any clear spray paint? The paper I have suggests to use an acrylic sealer but I can't find anything like it where I live. I have a clear spray paint in the garage and was wondering if this would work too
If I am using just a smaller sized water slide on a black tumbler, do I do the final epoxy over the entire cup to seal it? Or is there something I just put over the water slide area?
Hi Thank you for the detailed video. can I ask what am I doing wrong.. I have used waterslide images then sprayed them with crystal clear gloss finish sealer. I sprayed it four times leaving half hour between coats . then i put it on the cups the next morning. once on i left it 24 hours before putting in the oven to seal it .. When i used it a week alter it has all come off what am I doing wrong
If you want to adjust the image and position it correctly then yes, you need a smooth glassy surface. If not, you won't be able to reposition. Hope this helps😊
Great tips. On a full wrap water slide cup like the pencil one you showed can vinyl be added and if so should there be a layer of BT over the water slide first the add vinyl and BT coat again?
I’ve never heard of crystalac before. I’m doing an epoxy tumbler right now and I just cannot figure out why my water slides keep cracking. Im going to try this method but would I need to seal the water slide with something before applying epoxy?
I know you say at the end you put about 3 coats on top of a waterslide. Is this a normal amount? I have read some people still put 12 coats on the cup even if it's a waterslide. I have a cup I am doing and I want to make sure the customer gets great quality! I've put about 6 layers on top of the waterslide but I don't feel it at all. Thank you!!
I have a laser printer and I print high quality. After i place my waterslude in the oven ...comes out really nice. But even after setting 24hours it still peels off when I wash it. Any suggestions
I do all the steps and even sealed the stainless steel tumbler with 5 layers of crystalac but the crystalac scraps off and the edges of the waterslide scrap off. Is there a way to fix this or am I doing something wrong?
Seal the actual waterslide paper with 2 coats clear spray paint, 1 coat plasti dip, and 2 more coats of clear spray paint. Then you need to seal it onto your cup. Unless you are using ceramic (where you can bake it on) you want to put a top coat over it.
I found some plastidip on a deep deep sale and I bought it. Then realized it said pearlizer. I was looking to make sure it said clear and I couldn’t remember glossifier. Oh well. It says clear so just wondering if it would work. Hummmm. I might try it. I have a waterslide sheet that printed wrong. So it already can’t be used. If it messes up no biggie. Maybe I’ll find something new. Lol.
I'm having some issues with sealing. I'm new to doing this. I'm sealing the waterslide like in the video, but it appears to be cracking on the paper or something so when I apply a full wrap to the cup it has crackling throughout the image.
Would i be able to use the krylon clear coat spray? Is that the same as the restolium?? I'm in pinch because I totally forgot I had to seal my waterslide and krylon is all I have right now.
@@AlisonCrafts Is it safe to use the spray on the cup after the waterslide has been applied? I would be concerned it could be toxic if it got along the rim or top of the cup.
I ordered some waterslides from a company that says they don't need to be sealed. The company is for epoxy-based tumblers. Should I still seal if I am using crystalac?
What about baking on a ceramic cup? I usually let my applied waterslide dry fir 24 hours and then bake for 15 minutes, then apply bright tone 24 hours later.

do you have any suggestions for water decals used on leather? like a spray that helps it to seal it in
