One of the first things I did is watch this channel when the power came back (no thanks to Green Energy & corrupt politicians!) Dropped my blood pressure about 50 points. Your channel is one of the best... Thank you so much for this.
After watching this video as a whole it gave me a prospective of the quality it has become as a personal build. As the saying goes... when you want something done right... you have to do it yourself. The work you have placed in this build is just outstanding. Great fabrication work.
Owner builder projects usually go the extra mile regarding quality unless they are flipping it for a profit. Then the opposite is true. This one is mine to enjoy. There are a few mistakes here and there, but at least they are mine, ha ha.
Awesome! Inspiring!!!! Absolutely mind blowing, literally from basket to actual car!!! By one man , wow. I would just adjust the door frame ( 10:41) to close that gap , and is a BAT action candidate!!!!!!
I watch the video and recall all the steps you went through and how much hard skilled work you have put into this car. If someone sees only this is missing out a ton of amazing detailed bits, like the roll cage build, the fuel tank etc. Great job! Wishing you justice from YT's algorithm.
Thanks Nikos. I totally agree that the detail vids are better, but that's not how the YT algorithm works. This highlight video is geared toward the algorithm and then links to the detail vids at the end. If it doesn't go into the stratosphere, then that's fine. I only care about the people who are willing to do the work! Simple as that, but I try😄
This makes me smile. The name of my channel is Ahh Garage Time because of the self satisfaction I get wrenching on stuff. If you could experience this with your son, then that is worth gold.
So glad I found your channel a few weeks ago! I have enjoyed the binge watching. Lol. Great work. An inspiration for my rolling restoration I'm doing on a 72 Jaguar XJ6. Thanks.
awesome. 🤘🏼 thanks for documenting this entire thing. can’t believe you still have all the footage. you’ve created an online early 911 restomod encyclopedia - one i reference fairly often when different projects come up with my car.
Looking at a nearly complete car like yours, it’s easy to tell oneself, I could do that. How hard could it be? Well, this video shows how much determination, sweat, and perseverance goes into a build (not to mention more than just a bit of skill and ingenuity). Congratulations on a project well done, and can’t wait to see phase two!
This video does make it look simple, ha ha. Cut a bit here, weld here, and bolt it together. While it's not easy it is doable. That has been my mission. To inspire others to work on their car. Maybe it's as simple as changing a bulb, perfect!
Wonderful build! I'm weak for transparent candy paint. Imagine 4:27 and just get a transparent candy blue or just a clear transparent lacquer. I might be crazy.
Tom, Awesome job man! The cars coming along nicely and I forgot about some of your early fab work and the dumbbells...ha ha ha! Watching the sunset drive-by, I think if you choose a dark gray for the bumpers then you could also match it with some dark gray racing livery for cool points and track days!
That's not a dumbbell, it's a factory Porsche knocker tool! I'll probably use the leftover yellow that I have and then consider wrapping them later if I get bored. Then I could do race graphics at the same time???
You must be proud, I know I would be if I put this much time and effort in creating something this beautiful. Nice job Tom and looking forward to seeing more videos of this car to come.
Brilliant, just brilliant. Top notch restomod. I would keep the bug engine (I know, not a VW engine but still) in it but that's just me, always loved the 912.
Great video Tom. Enjoyed seeing the “mother of invention” metal fabrication bucks and tools. That’s right in my wheel house. Really nice work! I look forward to seeing where the build cost came in. Thanks for the effort to document the process! 👍👍
Cool, when there's a will there's a way. If not try another way, ha ha. Notice how very few new parts were used in this video. I'm looking forward to the budget video too because that was a big emphasis for me.
Great job! I am building a 73 911T with a turbochrged vw 2276 drawthrough setup. I am looking at around 200hp and the motor is light. Your car came out really nice.
Porsche 915 trans with KEP flywheel made to fit VW engine (8 doweled) and stock Porsche clutch. Home made bracket to fit vw motor and Porsche 911 mounts. Made it so everythibg will tuck under stock bonnet!!
This is so awesome, Tom! I found your channel early on in your journey with this car and as I've followed along I've learned a lot from you. I'm really impressed with what you've accomplished in that small garage. Top notch work, and on such a budget too! I look forward to Phase 2. Keep up the great work!
I've been working on this video for three years! I wish they were all this productive, ha ha. Zach just started driving my Mazda, but his brother Alex is 17 and wants to learn how to drive a stick. Hopefully that will be a funny video.
Lovely ! Most of all I enjoyed all the engineering sidesteps. Looking forward to the engine replacement. You talked about an EFI conversion, that will be interesting. Are you going to do a COP conversion as well ? But until then, time for a good glass of something nice...
Congrats Tom, i follow you since the beginning of this project ..... respect. Congratulations to your wife who give you the time to work on it 😂😂 give me your secret !
I’ve been watching your journey with great interest for a while. Congrats on the car. She’s beautiful! I don’t think I’ve seen you talk about your background at all. I’m sure others would like the hear where you acquired such a wide array of skills. Work on cars full time? Lifelong hobby? Engineer? Fabricator? Machinist? Any mentors?
Congrats, Tom! Incredible accomplishment. I'd love to know a bit of your background experience as well, if you wouldn't mind sharing. Your videos inspired me to rebuild my Porsche too (I have a bit of auto body experience but definitely a hobbyist). I'm blown away by your skill level and craftsmanship; re-profiling your rear fenders with a perfect lip and repositioning suspension pick-up points doesn't seem like hobby-level skill. Just curious, so I can establish expectations for myself. LoL
@@GarageTimeAutoResto Just found your website, and it makes so much sense. Count me as one of the 1,000 people you've inspired to rebuild my Porsche. I've been collecting parts for the last year and I'm going for it!
I'm glad you are going for it. It's doable. I know because I'm a regular guy. Some people think I'm a freak for doing all this with decent results. That's not the case! You can't get good results without getting started. Did you see the 356 video? That is where I started!
Great videos, I’ve watched them many times. In your opinion would you build a 912 into a 911 if it had the engine bay already modified or would you put an original engine back in. As I have one with an original engine but it has been a 911 before I purchased it, now without the 911 engine?
Unless the 912 is numbers matching complete/unmolested example I would put the 911 engine in. 911 engines are better and more fun to drive. Don't get me wrong, I love the 912/356 engine. I even own a 356 and several spare engines, but the 911 engines are wonderful. Don't let people tell you the 912 is faster on the track or canyons. Not true unless the driver is 10x more skilled.
@@GarageTimeAutoResto ok great thanks for the reply, the 912 has had at least 3 re-sprays & a front end & not matching numbers. There is a 2.7 911 engine for sale locally to me, maybe I’ll take a look at it. I’ve got the extra oil tank, fuel filter, EFI & pump etc 👍 Happy New Year
If somebody owns it, its not abandoned. Unused maybe. Cool build though and a good canvas for building it how you want to. Of course you have all the tools and "free" labor, so the $ figure a bit misleading. Given the engine, its more of a 912 ya? ;)
Looks awesome Tom. Have you watched the EV West 911 video? Basically they take a Tesla powertrain and install it in a 1968 911. They make a nice conversion. It would be an interesting option for somebody with a body shell and no powertrain, similar to how your project started. I'd miss the roar of a gas engine, but the EV car hauls ass. th-cam.com/video/ZQfkojLhY7U/w-d-xo.html
What a great job!! Nobody can imagine how much work and patience is in this car! Great result ! BTW more than 70% of all Porsches ever produced are still on the road! Also there is a German TH-camr "Franky" which is doing the same job on his 912. check out TH-cam : efka
Thanks for celebrating my Porsche's journey! This highlight video is the one to share with your friends and give a thumbs up!
The transformation of the car shows how smart , profisional and hard you worked on it .
Thanks, it's a labor of love!
Great work Tom. Time and patience always wins. A few dollars as well. Now drive her like you stole her!
Thanks! Will do
This build captures every cool Porsche feature.
