One of my favorite garages ever. Love that everything was either repurposed, second hand or custom built. However when he said "time to put the car where it belongs", i kind of him wanted to throw it in reverse and get on the street, not go park it back inside the garage! ;)
I’m genuinely not sure what I’m more impressed with, the build quality of the car or the build quality of the workshop...... everything is so immaculate and looks like it’s right where it belongs, even if it was all pieced together second hand 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻👍🏻
One cool dude. His story is more interesting then guys who buys expensive cars and tools just because they have the money. Jack represents 90% of guys out there who loves DIY, and cars and have a limited budget. I'm never tired watching this video over and over.
I love how it’s a story of a real car that’s actually driven in an environment that is set up for use and actually gets it. U can tell he gets it…. He u understands the spirit and characteristics of that vehicle are part of a whole instead of just fast lap times. This was awesome.
No 800 to 1000hp,No turbo's, No restomod look,no changing of a bunch of body panels ? What are you doing? I luv the vehicle, this is the true nature of a car for a car guy, uniquely delivering a vehicle to your specifications, Specking out the car to fit your use of it, personal enjoyment! Great Car!
Have followed your bb1 and bb2 adventures for many years. I have a black 73 targa with a Carrera 3.2 engine that wears the original Lindsey Racing Wheels from BB1. Swapped with Jamie N many years back now. Love your garage, keep the faith. BC
i remember seeing jack's "12 gauge garage" video a long time ago and at the time i also had an old 20x20 garage that i was trying to do a similar thing with - unfortunately i did not have the same luck finding old cabinets and such that he did, but i was happy with the result - and i resonate 100% with his ethos for the build. the efficiency, and bespoke nature of it - it is built for him and his desires (the 37" work surface height, for example). my son and i visited the petersen museum last month for the first time (we live in canada so it's a wee bit of a trek), and i had no idea jack and his awesome garage were so close by. thanks for this video, and an absolutely stellar museum! we had a great time and will be back the next time we're in LA. and to jack - keep up your relentless pursuit of both car and driver improvement, and your unpretentious attitude.
I still remember following the garage build thread on Garagejournal, and this garage has always stuck with me, in terms of efficiency, ingenuity and quality. Great to see it being featured in another video, so many years later.
Jack's TH-cam corner-by-corner guide for racing at Willow Springs is a great intro to the track especially for novices. It was very helpful to me 7 years ago when I began to track. Thanks!
I remember Jack when he add an off track excursion at Laguna. I saw the car towed back to the pits. That must have been about 15-20 years ago while I was in grad school. He is a very fast driver.
I am all in on what you have done with the car AND the shop. I did not buy a performance car until I was 68. I had gone to automotive school after high School at Denver Automotive and Diesel but life got in the way. While buying and selling cars to fix and sell , before and during the FLU , I wound up buying a Salvage title 2008 Bullitt Mustang and it is now my BABY. Always loved the look of the early 911's and you have done a FINE JOB !!!
Being a LA guy, and familiar with the style of your home, i want to extend my compliments. I’m always impressed with the lovely Spanish style homes around mid Wilshire. Your garage and 911 reflect the thoughtfulness of how you approach your lifestyle. Well done all around!👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I live in a 1 bed apt. I put my clothes in the linen closet and used my bedroom closet for my workshop. I have everything I need in there. Keep rearranging it and fit more stuff.. welder, welding table, tool chest, power tools, metal stock, on and on. I would DIE for your shop!! Ps, I take it outside when I work, I'm not welding in my closet!!
NOW THAT IS A 911! WHAT A CAR, just hop in and enjoy. Would love to be in this guys shoes. LA, an old rsr, a wife.....doesn't get much better than that. Yep, life happens to all of us but this still looks pretty damn good!
I remember watching a segment of Jack and his car/garage setup back in 2014 and was blown away by his efficient use of space at the time. So glad that he is doing well and preserves his car and garage setup. 👍
Loved this guy's garage for a long, long time. The lift he has was one that was used behind old grocery stores back in the day and can be had for a song. They are extremely well made and incredibly durable. I offer that up because I got many ideas from his. Thanks
This is interesting to hear. I thought I was the only one who had one of these for a car until I saw this video. I obtained mine from an auction that a restaurant supply company was having. They are very robust units for what they are.
@@sonnicman you are not alone, my friend. I have seen several that were given away, as the staff at the stores now don't know how to use them, let alone service them and so they sat, waiting for the right person to come along.
That's a great garage! It looks built for a purpose, unlike many of the designer garages you see on TH-cam. The car's great, too. Definitely no garage queen!
Since to my knowledge he didn't say it, for those wondering those are Nitto 371080 NT01 tires. He has them in an aggressively wide configuration. Quite handsome and uselful for what he's doing.
Yes. The Nittos are not exactly new tech, when it comes to tires. But I get something like 8 track events out of them on this car -- and as you point out, the 315/255 width means more tire than you would typically put on a 270-hp car. I built the thing for less-aggressive (streetable) tires.
Love your setup, I wish more people would subscribe to your minimalist ethos . One car, a small but very utilitarian garage that really works. I also love the unprissy look of your obviously well loved and driven Porsche, very refreshing in a sea of trailer queen rides currently on You tube.
One Man one Machine, one Shop, one Race Track....! That is how Car Guys ,are, it's all about, the Car, the Drive, the Sports Car being the mechanical, extension of the Driver Great to SEE . Limitations making you Limitless !
Very cool! I wondered what happened to Jack and his RSR. I was a fan of his car way back maybe 20 years ago reading about his journey modding the car in Excellence and via Rennlist where, I recall, Jack was a generous contributor. I hope the current strike in 2023 ends soon!
Omg, this guy is my hero. Love his OCD use of space. Also his articulation, gives a nod to being a writer and educated/well read. Thanks for sharing JT: Orlando FLA
Perfect płace to enjoy and interact with your car - the garage is not only purpose built but mindfully converted into a tasteful working environment. One of the best I’ve seen..! All the best!
Wifes name and pic. Mark here. Love what you've done with your garage. Your lift is WoW!! The paint reminds me of an "equipment green". Your benches and tool storage is inspiring to me, giving me ideas. Love your car and your passion. Willow Spings real close to me glad you dig it. Peace
Superb... Just love it when somebody is passionate about what they are doing, doesn't matter what. This is very enjoyable to watch. Keep up that way of life Jack 👍🏻.... Btw, the car is just WOW!!!!!!
I have always loved the Porsche 911 and especially the 1973 RS/RSR versions! Your car is exactly like I would want, if the cost to reproduce it wasn't so astronomical these days! Just perfect in bodywork, stance, wheels, interior and its street and track capabilities!
First print shop my dad worked at in the 70’s, nearly all the machines/presses were that same green. My guess was always Army surplus aka cheap paint for manufacturing all sorts of metal. Also love the cars and the spot.
I want this like an old car he is for track, but you can drive at street without a problem, also I want like back camera this kind of stuffs things to play music one amazing sound in it this is my dream track car I still like think what going to be because I don't know the future and, probably I won't find it the Porsche I want or the BMW e30 old. Thanks for the video, anyway.
Really like your RSR, mine took almost 10 years to completely complete. made from a 73 911T I lived in Berkeley area at the time of the build. It had a 2.4 eng when I got it and it was up graded to a 2.7 mechanicaly injected race engine worked with Jerry Woods in San Jose to balance the engine my oil cooler was run to the front with a RSR front and rear bumpers. Hope to see you at the track or autocross some day. Good luck with yours I'm with Zone 7 PCA. Hope to get a chance to visit Petersen Automotive some day.
Stunning car, perfect for *YOU*..... it’s yours, you did it the way YOU want and most of you enjoy it. Looking for my very own older 911/930 to project....
Sometimes all u need is one car for it to be your collection, especially if it’s your dream car. Although the car and the garage might not be the prettiest, it’s heaven
Awesome car and nice job on the garage, my dad had folding tables similar like that in his basement workshop. He always used say, you Gotta be like a Japanese house in the the city and make use of every bit of space efficiently because it was extremely limited and I can see you’ve done that.
Loved this what a find of a story. Fascinating pinnacle of classic Porsche purity and relationship as an owner and servicing such a perfect example housed in its own dedicated garage.
Wow. Excellent! Great garage, great car, a really wonderfully competent and dedicated owner and garagiste, and a really satisfying and thought provoking video. Bravo to all involved! Many thanks. ❤
Great to see a useable Porsche most of the time they are pristine and pampered barely ever used and or driven. What is the point of having a beautiful automobile if you don't drive it. Wayne Carini and Jay Leno are two collectors that drive their cars and don't treat them like museum displays.
Love this. It’s an inspiring use of space, working with what you have and making it perfect. Love the cabinets, paint color and flush floor lift, the phone, the “no personal calls” sign and the clock- the RSR is ok I guess 😜👊🏼
One of my favorite garages ever. Love that everything was either repurposed, second hand or custom built. However when he said "time to put the car where it belongs", i kind of him wanted to throw it in reverse and get on the street, not go park it back inside the garage! ;)

Thanks, and I agree! The car was out at Willow Springs Raceway today -- now it's back.
working mans garage! love it too.

Yep his thread in the journal is what got me hooked on GJ. What an awesome garage and car
I remember reading his post on garage journal. He did so much work it's unreal.
Fantastic! looks like the garage I want to build with only one Collection car. :)
I love how it’s a story of a real car that’s actually driven in an environment that is set up for use and actually gets it. U can tell he gets it…. He u understands the spirit and characteristics of that vehicle are part of a whole instead of just fast lap times. This was awesome.

I've been a fan of the 12gauge garage for years. Nice that Petersons took notice.
I just saw this car leaving willow springs a few days ago and now it’s a recommended video , crazy
Man, I remember Jack's posts on Garagejournal way back in the day when he was first renovating. Good to see he's still at it and enjoying it.
Been a huge fan of Jack, the 12ga garage and black beauty I and II for decades!

I think they did a piece on him on Petrolicious as well. This gentleman is my hero.
Jack's garage was directly responsible for me remodeling mine. What an iconic workspace.
Best looking garage!
Another great update on Jacks fantastic use of space, and of course his amazing 911.
I remember watching a segment of Jack and his car/garage setup back in 2014 and was blown away by his efficient use of space at the time. So glad that he is doing well and preserves his car and garage setup. 👍
Very nice garage 👍
Your dream shop realized. All of us fellas have a dream, garage-wise.
The rock chips on that Porsche is like fine patina 👌🏾 so refreshing to see a battle scarred machine
Avocado was an early 70s color. It works in the garage. Thanks for the tour.

I never get tired of hearing Jack narate through his 911 and his garage. I hope this becomes a regular series for Petersen's youtube channel!
I enjoyed this tour of Steve Martin’s garage. Very impressive work and beautiful car, Steve!!
Jack - I followed the garage and car build on several forums over the years. Garagejounal back in the day. So nice to "see it" this way.
That's a great garage! It looks built for a purpose, unlike many of the designer garages you see on TH-cam. The car's great, too. Definitely no garage queen!

Passion for Cars! You’ll never get bored when you do it yourself. Awesome video.
Don’t even like cars but big fan of how he makes use of everything so thoughtfully.

That's always the first result I get when I search for ideas for a livable garage. Spectacular work.
Absolute PERFECTION! This guy is the most perfectly tasteful gentleman on earth! Perfect, perfect, perfect!
Couldn't agree more!
Cool Story, hot car in a perfect organized garage. Love this 911, especially with the Fuchs- rims. Cheers from Germany to Cali.
We play...*rough* together..... love it.
That car is one of the best setup and built I've ever seen. I remember years ago hearing the build specs. Really nice guy and a great racer too.
Omg, this guy is my hero. Love his OCD use of space. Also his articulation, gives a nod to being a writer and educated/well read.

On the other hand, a modern GT3 is not the equal of Jack's car. Always loved it, as well as his garage.
this is awesome

I really love your car and garage, and I can stay all day long, love it
Cool garage n build here . Wow
Well, I'm almost a year late to the video and am familiar with the "12 Gauge Garage." But this is a nice review.

Honest, classic and the garage harkens to a simpler time, thanks so much for sharing.

This is the original “obsessed garage”! Wasn’t this called the 12 gauge garage?
Yes this the 12 Gauge Garage from Garage Journal. Plenty over to read about it coming together.
Great stuff! Jack, I remember way back when you were considering a supercharged engine. Would've been fun, but I think you went the right direction 🙂
… every Dads Dream 💭
Thanks for sharing your ideas and passion for the 911.
I love it and ITS BEAUTIFUL! A Dream
love it, such a cool garage
The Garage Journal. 👏👏👏👍🙋♂️
Awesome Jack! Thanks for sharing.
What a great place, car and true Porsche-enthusiast 👍🙂
Jack is in my hall of fame!
Not Grandpa's hammer, Trigger's broom!
Cool video, personally I would have to downsize the main bench to have some more working space but it's working for him👍
Hi Jack, from another Pelican. Great video
This dude is a legend!👍
Great video :)
