Keenan, you are awesome and truly one of the stars of the sport. To all the traditionalist and the Helio filter crowd - this is a tournament technique designed for sport BJJ. On the street this would never even be considered! Take it for what it is. A way to play sport BJJ.
Nice to see JiuJitsu evolving every year. People will argue this is not what GM Helio taught, but Konde Koma to GM Carlos to Helio evolved as well. Next year we'll something better.
We did this yesterday and when you pull off the technique of the day during rolling, you get $5! I got $15!!!!!!!! This totally works. I'm making it one of my go-to's
Sometimes when playing this guard I like to put the soles of my feet together on the tail of the lapel and pretend that I'm spider-man. Because I am a weirdo.
So much hate ! duh its for sport bjj because thats what he does lol and thats what most who are watching this study. if you are going to talk shit and hate on someones moves ...prob should pick someone who isn't a world champion, sport bjj or not he is winning and living the dream so props and respect to mr cornelius
yep, when u move your hips for the sweep, just put your right leg up on his shoulder and don't forget to hold the lapel on his neck or he will push you down and pass your guard ;). I actually use the omoplate mostly like a sweep 'cause it's hard to make him tap in this position
This is pretty cool. I like the lapel guard but never played it. Jiu jitsu is suppose to be fun . People complain about to much technique. Everything evolves in life.
Looks pretty interesting, but you're using a bluebelt as training partner. I highly doubt any bluebelt will be able to accomplish all those multiple (and complex) steps! It seems like it may be hard on the knees...
In high level competition, sometimes getting to half guard or side control for just a few seconds is the most significant thing that happens the entire match, which is how it should be. Black belts shouldn't be leaving huge holes in their defense because of unchecked aggression, and they know how to defend more things, so you should in theory see less exciting matches, the more skilled the opponents get. Less submissions, less taking of controlling positions, and a lot more stalemates. It's just the nature of refining and honing your skills. Keenan is mixing it up so as to find ways of doing things that their opponent hasn't practice defending, and maybe hasn't even seen before, and yet you don't like that? Lol.
imo it is....jiu jitsu was always meant to evolve. theirs def a split for sport vs martial art...but imo it just gave it more creative ideas to apply jiu jitsu.
Helio Gracie and his brother Carlos took Japanese Jiu Jitsu and revolutionized it. Traditionalists said that was not Jiu Jitsu. I'm sure Helio wouldn't mind these new developments, and yes, it's still Jiu Jitsu
DeeDubb1983 can someone actually tell me how the gracies "revolutionized" japanese jiu jitsu? i do japanese jiu jitsu and don't see what is revolutionized about it. also, to be precise, the gracies took kodokan judo (which is NOT japanese jiu jitsu) and "revolutionized" it, but even then i fail to see what has changed to call it a complete different style.
waldomarek No the Gracies did not learn Judo, they learned 'Kano Jiu-jitsu'... Maeda left Japan to spread 'Kano Jiu-jitsu' before the term Judo came into existence. and Jigoro Kano's focus in Jiu-jitsu was realistic training and focusing on the grappling and throwing... which was DIFFERENT the the traditional Jiu-jitsu school's of the day
One of the most bullshit techniques I have ever seen. Convoluted, waste of energy and even with a participant that is allowing to move without resisting, this guy still has trouble applying it. Let's not even talk about how you wouldn't be able to spin and move in the way that is needed on any high friction surface, like a concrete sidewalk or a tar driveway. Reminds me of some silly "technique" you would see in a John Wick movie.
The most basic attack .... *10 minutes later* ... Step 79: Spin under while anticipating your opponent's backflip
AHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAH
😂😂

dam that's so sick Ive been working the lapel guard and never could have thought to invert with a bad ass sweep thanks Keenan you the man
been the only person using lapel guard in the gym and now theres a vid! thanks!!
Nice to see JiuJitsu evolving every year. People will argue this is not what GM Helio taught, but Konde Koma to GM Carlos to Helio evolved as well. Next year we'll something better.
Keenan’s game got very fancy when he joined Atos. Props to him using it at the highest levels!

and that was one of the "most basic attacks" from lapel guard x.x''
lol
creepiest smile ever...
Simple. Hold my beer..
+Daniel Bortz hahaha
That seems like a whole lot of work to end up in his half guard.
better than being on bottom in terms of points and in terms of gravity
Agreed
That's not half guard
Nope this is the leg drag position
Great video keenan
How do you make sure the left foot (or weak side foot) makes it to the elbow, and what’s your option if your opponent grips that leg and kills it ?
great keenan! greetings from Ecuador :)
Great one to to ad to my database 😉👊🏻

Well said
0:32 from standing
4:10 quick repeat
so faltou uma legenda
Da pra entender vai..
show your take on the vaporizer and stoner control
It's all about the timing :-)
Love that move but what's to stop him from a heel hook?
you can't heel hook in the gi
"I don't want to be stuck in 50/50"
Wait... what?
Can u omoplata from there?
yep, when u move your hips for the sweep, just put your right leg up on his shoulder and don't forget to hold the lapel on his neck or he will push you down and pass your guard ;). I actually use the omoplate mostly like a sweep 'cause it's hard to make him tap in this position

he's put on a kid's jacket by mistake
I like the lapel guard, but it is not open for a footlock on your right foot?
It's possible and people will go for it but by pulling the lapel tight they can't arch/lean back to finish the foot lock
+JP Horning indeed, but in a fight situation sometimes This is a risk. Anyway thank you
At 3.36 looked as if KC might have a cross - body ankle lock opportunity on the opponent's left foot ?
In a fight you wouldnt go for that
Awesome....who the hell put thumbs down ?!?
Oh but I just love all that feet contact. Great " FOOTAGE " ! I got a " KICK " out of it ! CHIPPER / FRISKY !
yoooo, you still have invites for beta testers?
Thanks bro
How much can you undress your opponent? That's an interesting move, very obvious your intentions. A lot of nerve to do such a move
this is great
For sports jits only.
Oh guarda dificil !!! Shoooow !!
This looks so similar to Imanari Roll
Sanjiban Bhattacharya I like sushi
What If you are on the streets and he doesnt have a Gi?
Looks pretty interesting, but you're using a bluebelt as training partner. I highly doubt any bluebelt will be able to accomplish all those multiple (and complex) steps! It seems like it may be hard on the knees...
All that work for a sweep and to end up in half guard? Fuck outta here I hate this kind of jiu jitsu.
In high level competition, sometimes getting to half guard or side control for just a few seconds is the most significant thing that happens the entire match, which is how it should be. To you it may be "all that work" but to Keenan it's a basic , simple, move.
Zhappy dog not half guard leg drag position one of the best places to be
Seems like a lot of work just to get a sweep
definitely not for beginners!!!
Thats jazzy, but there are much more simpler ways of doing this lol
So advanced... what even is bjj anymore
Most basic indeed : O
top stoner control
Keenan why are you stealing Danny Burkes moves and not giving him credit!
Puta que pariu... isso é que é uma guarda
this isnt jiu jitsu anymore......they fucked upp.
This is cool but this is not jiu jitsu at least not how helio gracie intended jiu jitsu to be
imo it is....jiu jitsu was always meant to evolve. theirs def a split for sport vs martial art...but imo it just gave it more creative ideas to apply jiu jitsu.
Helio Gracie and his brother Carlos took Japanese Jiu Jitsu and revolutionized it. Traditionalists said that was not Jiu Jitsu. I'm sure Helio wouldn't mind these new developments, and yes, it's still Jiu Jitsu
So... you like holding closed guard for 30 minutes and looking for cross chokes?
DeeDubb1983 can someone actually tell me how the gracies "revolutionized" japanese jiu jitsu? i do japanese jiu jitsu and don't see what is revolutionized about it. also, to be precise, the gracies took kodokan judo (which is NOT japanese jiu jitsu) and "revolutionized" it, but even then i fail to see what has changed to call it a complete different style.

Thats the demise of jiu jitsu
I would just punch the guy in the face. It's less work
One of the most bullshit techniques I have ever seen. Convoluted, waste of energy and even with a participant that is allowing to move without resisting, this guy still has trouble applying it.
