  • I decided to swap from 12 bolt wheels to 24 bolt. This video goes over swapping my tires from one set of wheels to the other.

Just got my BFG for hmmwv and do the same as you did. Great work !

Back I am after a lucky strike on a set of 4 24 non-paired bolt rims for free, guy said "I'm happy if you free up some of that space", and bought a set of 90%+ thread Goodyear MT that are on their way
Can't wait to install them, won't use the runflats nor inserts since I won't do any heavy offroading so installation should be pretty easy

I thought you had to run some kind of insert. If not a runflat a bead lock ring because the rim has no bead lock built in like a tridisonal rim

You can run an insert or a run flat, but it is not needed for normal use and tire pressures. It is needed when running low air pressure off road Aside from bolting together, these wheels are the same as any civilian 16.5 wheel on the inside. They do not have a retention lip like other civilian wheels and can de bead at lower pressures. With normal air pressure they are fine.

Yes my lug nuts were folded in when I first removed my tires.🍻🇺🇸

Hi sir, Have a question. I already received my BFG Baja T/A tires. Will they fit on the Hmmwv 12 bolt rim? I can see you change those tires from 12 to 24 bolt wheel. Will it be ok for me to use the 12 bolt wheels?

Hi there, sort of a late comment/question here
I have a M998, with the original 36' bias tires, with the magnesium runflats in them
Considering that my Humvee will only ever see road use/lightest off road, can I also take them off and not use them? I see you said "not needed for normal use and tire pressure", but since my rims can only go up to 30psi, is that still considered safe without runflats or beadlock inserts?
Edit: just rewatched the video and noticed that you are them between 22 and 25 psi, so I should be good?

Please don’t take offense to this, but those bias ply tires were made in the early to mid 80’s. That puts them at 30-37 years old. Even if they appear new and not dry rotted, they aren’t safe for road use. I wouldn’t use them on the street at all, and I certainly would want the run flat in that setup if I had a flat. Rubber after that amount of time loses its ability to handle heat cycles, and they will come apart. Get ahold of CSM army tires out of GA. They sell really nice current date used tires as well as new for a very good price.

@@jefffurlong1206 thanks for the advice, this definitely clears out many doubts and confirms some of my concerns
My problem with buying new/updated tires and rims is that I'm from Italy, meaning shipping and customs charges are gonna cost me a fortune
I found a set of 4 37s Wrangler MTs mounted 90%+ threads mounted on some 12bolts, total cost would be around 1500$, from Federal Military Parts, would this be a decent deal?
