UK so when you need to ask how to get somewhere you can be confident that you'll be understood and you'll understand the directions that are given to you let's do this you're on holiday in London and you want to visit one of these three famous attractions so first let's make sure we can pronounce them correctly now the first Big Ben is the name of a clock so we don't put the in the front of it it's just big Ben make sure you pronounce the i in big as a short I sound it's not big it's big that I sound is as fast as snapping your fingers big Big Ben you
try next is Trafalgar Square when I used to live in London it's where I used to go to eat my sandwiches at lunchtime now the AR at the end of Trafalgar is pronounced using aschwawah sound that's a little uh sound that's so common in English to make it just open your mouth slightly make sure your tongue rests in the bottom of your mouth and from here make this little uh sound uh so this word is pronounced Trafalgar
Trafalgar the r in square is silent so instead of saying Square we just say Square it's the a sound Square you try
Square put them together and we have Trafalgar Square next we have Buckingham Palace and the first part is quite easy booking try it
booking the h and a are both taken away and replaced with that schwa sound we've just learned so the end is just um um put them together and we have Buckingham, Buckinghamso the whole thing is Buckingham
Palace. Now listen to this conversation as a visitor to London asks a local for directions. To get the most benefit don't take notes just listen to the conversation, it really doesn't matter if you don't understand every word and phrase what's important is that you just listen to the rhythm of English as it's spoken
