Black babies aren't jet black on arrival, they get darker with age as all babies do. I think it's beautiful and you are amazing for challenging yourself 😊
@@Shr00mbunnyYeah, but some dark dark skin people, for example, my pal Arok is like this deep pretty black oak color and as a baby she would’ve probably been around a slate grey oak or raw umber-y color (sorry i only know how to describe these colors in tree talk 😭)

Having the ears a bit darker is a nice touch! A lot of black babies are born lighter than their true/permanent skin tone so it’s like a thing where we look at their ears to gauge how much color they’re gonna get.
Just so you know you can edit comments for small corrections like the one above my comment! It's the three vertical dots on the top right of the comment itself.
I didn't know you could tell that from the ears. Must be fun to see the newborn for the first time and start reminiscing how every one else in the family turned out. It kinda reminds how brunettes are born blonde and you wait and see when their hair stops changing. Will they go all the way into a lovely deep brown, or will they stop halfway and become dirty blondes? The hair color typically starts turning between the ages of 5-10. The darker it's gonna be the quicker it changes. If it's not too personal, how quickly and what ages does the melanin start to kick in? edit: again sorry if its too personal of a question, i swear im just curious if the ages of changing are about the same or if its different in every family or
hey @@iluvcoffe252! Honestly, there isn’t really a good answer because it varies by racial makeup, genetic background, skin tone etc. As a “lightskinned” Black woman from a family of ppl with the same skintone, I was born slightly lighter and think I started developing more color throughout my toddler years. But I was also jaundiced and left in the sun quite a bit as a baby (ie UV light). On the other hand, a friend from HS’ nephew was born and came out darker than he was, so it really does depend. Skin colors come in all sorts of shades and develop differently depending on the individual. I’d be surprised if the aforementioned nephew became more melanated over time. Tldr: infancy/early childhood, but it varies a lot.
I feel like you did a great job from not just an artistic perspective but as a person of color. Creating different shades of skin and features can be quite difficult. Especially for the first time.
Right?? People forget how hard it is to paint something realistic. And that's her first time trying something new so she is still experimenting with techniques and colours. And it looks AMAZING! I wouldn't be able to deliver this degree of realism even after 2 years of trying. And i love that she is sharing the progress too. I think the people complaining haven't met a lot of new-borns and would also not be able to create something so realistic
I don't think people understand how melanin works For those who don't know, melanin is the pigment in your body that darkens it as there's more. When you're born, no matter the race, you are paler than you will be because your melanin production hasn't fully started. Sometimes there's mutations in the genetics that cause things like freckles, which is just more melanin is some areas. When babies are born, they won't be as dark as they will be when they're older. I'm Greek, and when I popped out, my skin was a lot paler than I am now. Babies come in all shades, and they get lighter or darker. It's a range!
I’m saying this as a white person but I think the baby is dark enough as newborns skin is usually a lot lighter when they are first born. The undertones of the paint is gorgeous makes an amazing complexion!!
The most important thing if you want good feedback is to show it to a black person at this point and ask if it’s a black baby. Cos I am 100% sure everyone who is saying it isant dark enough is white or hasn’t seen a black baby before they have had time to darken up But I would love to see you do a baby with albinsim
I completely understand wanting to see more variety. There isn’t one way to look like a particular race of people and I’m sure there are black babies who look like this. Hopefully we keep seeing more diverse babies from you! It looks great to me so far and the other comments (with way more relevant experience than me) seem to be agreeing.
Gorgeous! Usually people are born lighter then they are when they grow up, that includes both black and white people, but it’s especially noticeable for black people. Usually their color gets darker as they age, so this looks perfect!
She's perfect. It's good that you ask for opinions but don't take everyone seriously. You know trolls live here, that are NEVER content... I would only do disabilities if there was a request. & Pre pay. Js
Have people never seen most black/brown babies??? They can be born preeetty light skinned, you don't produce much melanin until you're older. Just how dark of a baby do some of these people expect to see??? I understand some people's children will be born darker than others, but I'd hope they're not expecting adult skin tones on these replicas??
Exactly! Most black babies I’ve seen are that color, the only black baby I’ve ever seen that wasn’t was my little sister who was born very very dark, but even then that is rare
It might not look how you intended however it looks like light skinned baby or even a mixed baby which is still diverse it doesn't look whitewashed and it is beautiful
Would you ever consider taking on a custom project? Like if someone were to pay you to completely recreate as identical as you can through pictures, a silicon baby doll of a real human baby that has passed?
Thatd be intresting! Though theres some like downs syndrome which may be super difficult without a custom mold/head :( but i think most of the other disabilities (visbale physical that is) maybe easier, granted there wouldnt be wheel chair pieces as they wouldnt realistically be walking around 😅 Im intrested to see how this is approched when she gets the chance to see this
@@Dont_Stare_I_Will_Stare_Back Yeah no need for an infant wheelchair lol, but I think maybe baby with hearing aides and things that indicate realistic visual disabilities would be cool. I def think getting down syndrome sculpts and different facial features sculpts would b cool :3
It’s okay we’re born pretty light and then darker while growing. You did great with the ears because that’s where people usually look when seeing the colour the baby will end up turning out like.

Also something to keep in mind black and mixed black babies have darker ear lobes this is spot on here but if you was making let’s say a white black mixed baby then that would be something that maybe looks odd but is completely normal The back cam definitely dose it justice Edit edit : I think people would assume it looking like a white baby because of the features the nose next to the white one dose look similar but not the same ❤
Don’t worry about the baby being too light, most of us are born light. I can say, I was born with skin paler than your white babies and a full head of jet black straight hair. Now I’m dark skinned with Afro hair.
I think the doll looks great, all your dolls do lol. I think the last dark wash you did really made it look the best it has yet. And I totally agree, the hair will probably tie the whole thing together.

Babies are normally lighter when born. Skin darkens with age and exposure to light something a womb doesn't provide.
