Ok I can see the cv shaft but why replace the entire front differential? I’ve replaced plenty of output shaft’s without a problem on rams. Those differentials a very expensive.
There's a company in Canada, it's a transmission shop that sells intermediate shaft kits. I think I paid $450 for it. Comes with the intermediate shaft, seal and bearings also cv axle shaft dust cover. It took me about 1 1/2 - 2 hours total to change it. There a great video on TH-cam from the transmission that sells these kits and how to install them. I watched it, bought the kit and watched it again and swapped it out. Was pretty easy.
Yeah but most people still hate it because we're finding all the problems and that makes it more expensive. Which more often than not is perceived as us being shady.

I've replaced my front passenger CV Axle on my 2016 Ram two times now, and the new one which I installed two months ago is not making a noise. When I looked at it the other day I noticed that it's still connected, boot is in new condition, but it does feel too loose and wobbly. Originally, the reason I had to replace it was because I had a wheel bearing failure due to some larger tires I think on the truck (which came with it). My wheel was at probably a 25 degree angle to the truck when that happened. Do you think maybe when that original incident happened, it ruined the differential mounts or stretched the control arms? Trying to figure out why the new cv axles keep failing. Thanks!

You do realize he changed the entire differential when you can just change that output shaft. Takes 30 seconds to get it out and put a new one in without taking the differential out.
CV axle or lower engine mount? Hearing mad clunking and got excessive play in steering 😮 already replaced the control arms sway bar links and outer tie rods. Kind of stumped.🤔
Got an 07 Honda odyssey. It had a click when turning left, changed the cv axle. No more click, we’ll almost, once in awhile it clicks when it goes into drive or reverse, I don’t have wear on my old splines like you do there but I’m asking cuz I’m curious if there is an issue in the transmission or am I just being paranoid? 126k miles.
I just learned a few things here... i need both cv axle and shaft on driver side.. i was wondering what the red stuff coming out of it was, it's eating the shaft i guess. I have the exact wiggle. Bad roads in south Carolina, I've hit some pot holes that have costed me thousands and thousands of dollars. We need better roads in south Carolina.
Could be the transfer case sir.. specifically the chain, but if left unattended it will cause way worse damage, to the point of some type of catastrophic damage to the entire unit... it will then turn 100s into 1000s of dollars... not to mention that if it does fail at a highway speed, you may very well lose complete control of your vehicle.. I have seen this happen quite a few times.. I just wanted to let you know, but I’m sure you’re aware, but I also know how we all get busy and things pass us by until they resurface as a greater problem... Find a good transmission shop near you and start there...😬👍🇺🇸
Thanks for your question and not making assumptions 😊 the stub shaft required opening up the Diff. If I opened up the Diff, I would’ve wanted to go ahead and change everything for warranty purposes. On this one the stub shaft didn’t simply slide out… I checked. Since the customer drove 4 hours to have me work on his truck, we decided that this was best! Thanks for the question.
Im not a machanic and changed the intermediate shaft succesfully and the diff was fine. It took some research but is totaly servicable. Im sure you know this by now.
@@AlexTheCarDoctorhey man I replaced the cv axles on my ram 1500 an the cv axles still have play. I'm gonna tackle the intermediate shaft or stub shaft next. Any tips? Is my differential damaged you think ?
I own a 14 1500 with the 8 speed and the 8 speed, i found out doing the driver side cv stub shaft is easy, the passenger side though, 2 days on the hoist. Didn't look into it before hand.
.... Dude, are you really replacing the entire front differential instead of just just leaving it there and just replacing the inner axle with the housing still in the vehicle??.. I can only guess by what I can see from this short video so please do not take this as a negative comment.. This is a genuine and honest question 😬👍🇺🇸

Hmmm my dude That inermediat shaft pulls out (infact that usually pull out with the cv shaft and make it a pain in the ass to remove ) and costs like 40$ you over charged that customer and are making us mechanics look bad
Not sure what you’re talking about, but on this particular one. The shaft kit requires rebuilding it. When you are a shop owner, you have to assess the situation differently. Yeah these guys
Why didn't you just replace the intermediate shaft? Instead of the differential? I have have come across this before as well
That could have been prevented with a little grease. I imagine a bean counter got a bonus for not using lube during assembly.
Thanks for sharing, great info
Glad it was helpful!

There is play in the axle, but would the mounts be the cause of the clunking or the axles, and what do you think?

Changing people's bank accounts one car at a time..💀🤣
Question why not just replace the intermediate shaft. It typically don't com out of the old cv axle anyway. No need to change the entire front diff.
That’s crazy
Can't,believe how tiny shaft is and light the alloy casting is!!!!!

Is the axle suppose to slide on all the way or only part way
If it's worth doing, it's worth doing it right.
Is the play on the cv boot because it's an aftermarket item or just worn out.??

Would that make it vibrate or shake at 60mpg
Can you just replace the output shaft on the passenger front diff where it splines into the halfshaft?? I have same issue. Trying to save money .😅

I'm doing this on my ram is the passenger side similar
Mine has done this
What if it has play when I push it in and pull outwards is that bad as well?
That’s normal, they are designed to do that on most vehicles to compensate for suspension travel
@@AlexTheCarDoctor thank you I’m still tryna find the reason why it shakes a bit after 75+
Just had these done twice and ended up having to get the whole front diff replaced because the shop couldn’t get the stub in without nicking the seal.
You can change the seal without changing the diff

Yeah you don't need the customer coming back and saying that you did a half ass job cuz you know that'll happen! It was fine before you touched it!
