I decided to live in a cooler place in the Philippines because I like the outdoors and the heat can be so oppressive so much of the year. I bought a house recently in Tagaytay and plan to use it as my home base. Tons of great restaurants, shopping and things to do. In the top ten safest cities in the Philippines. Just 1.5 hrs. from Manila means you can get just about anything you want. It's proximity to Manila makes it easy to fly anywhere in or out of the Philippines.
We moved here 4 years ago and decided to find a place near to Tagaytay. We are near to Alfonso, west of Tagaytay. Temps here are mostly in the 70's and 80's, with cool winds and rains. I sometimes have to put on a light jacket and socks. We love it up here, our dogs do too. We are out in the country and are surrounded by jungles.
Hey Barry....we are thinking of moving to Tagaytay in a year or so, my wife is from Leyte and it is just too hot for me. So the weather is fairly cool there for you? Do you mind sharing what a 3 bed 2 bath house goes for in your area(Alfonso), or point me to any good sites to search for rentals? The country and jungles seem perfect. We have 2 children 4 and 9 and are from Vancouver Washington in the USA. Hope you are doing well. Dennis and Marjorie
During the Amihan season (in Celsius) 1.Mt PULAG is 0 degrees 2. BAGUIO is 10 degrees 3.SAGADA is 9 degrees 4.ATOK is 6 degrees 5. TAGAYTAY is 17 degrees. These are top 5 coldest places in the Philippines
I have been to Baguio twice in august and it was around 60F and pretty much constant rain and we were basically in the clouds. It was a nice relief from the heat. We are going again at the end of this month so we expect more of the same. Very congested place but has a good bustling feel about it and very safe. Thinking about spending more time there in a few years during our retirement, as my wife was at Uni there and has family there.
I'm a Filipino-American citizen living in the states for 30 years. But I was born and raised in Mindanao, and practiced my medical profession in Phil's for years before moving to USA. I should say Bukidnon is far much more beautiful than Baguio and Tagaytay. Bukidnon is colder, greener, far less crowded, rich in agriculture, quite good in infrastructure, and most of all crime rate is far less or rare compared to either Baguio or Tagaytay. Nonetheless Mindanao has been the safest region of Phil's several years ago already. I hope people will stop their wrong narratives or stereotypes about how dangerous Mindanao is just to be relevant.
Sorry to say is far colder than bukidnon. That 17 degrees is during summer season. Try to visit baguio during the month of december to febuary. The temprarure will go down below 10 degrees. In ATOK ,benguet sometimes it will reach negative 1 degrees.
Cooler weather is exactly what I want !!! --- Not 'cold' - like Baguio. --- Malaybalay is nearly ideal temps. - but too isolated from top quality medical. --- Batanes is also isolated and remote. --- This really leaves Tagaytay as - "the place" - in my mind. Having essentially everything needed for a good place to live - including the proximity to Manila & the airport ! Certainly a beautiful city clean air fresh farm produce and international food choices. My ideal "comfortable" retirement destination !!!
I spent a couple of months in Thailand. And I found the heat very overwhelming. I'll be making my first visit to thailand july 2025. Very good to know that there are places to go visit and/or stay for a while. Where it cools down in the evening? I love sleeping in cooler weather. Thank you for this information. You've done a great job on it
I recently went to Baguio, the drive up there is really the best part for me. However, I could not find a taxi when i got there and had to walk 45 minutes to my airbnb. So just be aware that it is very crowded there.
Baguio is a nice place in the Philippines. Tbh, my most favorite weather is the rainy season or the foggy season at Baguio. Because even if it's noon, it's still very cold and windyy + fog. Although temps right now is very cold. 8.5-12. But noon time is like the same as regular days. I love Baguio!!
Thanks for the info Gio. I definitely want to check out Baguio. I liked Tagaytay, just hard to get around there. You and Maya have fun in Vietnam. Da Nang has become a top 5 city in Asia for me.
Great new material! I have to say my only complaint about Phils, being an outdoors person, is the oppressive heat at times. Kayaking, jogging early hours is ok but not ideal there for long hours. Food for thought, Thanks Gio.
You nailed it on everyone 😮..Batanes I think you mispronounced it but I am not sure.. also Baguio gets three times more rain than Cebu City..136 inches a year in Baguio.. the record for Baguio was January 18th 1961 at 6.3 degrees Celsius 43.3 Fahrenheit.. I call it my secret place that I found but I guess I will let the cat out of the bag because most people do not want to live in the mountains.. Sibulan and I am not talkin about sibulan on the coast by dumaguete. I am talking about the sibulan in the mountains by the twin lakes not far from dumaguete and Valencia.. the temperature is always two or three degrees cooler than the Valencia next to dumaguete.. it is only about 35 minutes from sibulan to the coast and about 40 minutes from dumaguete.. if you take a shortcut it's not that far to dauin so you are in the mountains but not far from the beaches on the ocean.. that is where I will find a mountain house for a long-term rental or purchase it.. of course I will have a great solar backup with a solar generator and a gas generator also.. I will also be looking for a place on the beach to split my time for my Filipino fiance and myself.. I really like the coastline that is south of dauin because I think it is a lot more beautiful and a lot more cheaper also.. I'm also thinking about buying a box truck making a camper out of it with a 5,000 BTU air conditioner to use and spend time on the beach and maybe not have to buy a place on the ocean also.. apparently the weather temperature gauge is in the mountains by the twin lakes because when you Google the temperature in sibulan it is always a few degrees cooler than Valencia.. I've seen TH-camrs go up that area and it is really beautiful and peaceful.. I have sent my fiance to driving school because I will certainly have a car and after I arrived I'm sending her to a shooting range for some firearms training and certification. If I'm living way up in the mountains I will surely be armed in case of a life-threatening emergency.. of course us Americans cannot own guns but our Filipino wives can.. you are a smart guy and you nailed all five of the coldest places..Sagada is a very cold town but it is very close to Baguio so I guess it would be in the same realm.. I also want to visit in the mountains north of Baguio where the headhunters live. The tribes are still there but of course they do not hunt heads anymore.. I don't think they do hehe but I have read to go with a guide😮😮😊😊..ps. there are two sibulan towns with two different temperatures.. one town is in the mountains by the twin lakes and the other town is on the coast next to dumaguete.. when you check the weather lots of times you will get the temperature from the town next to dumaguete which is about the same temperature as dumaguete.. check the temperature at the weather station close to the twin lakes in the mountains and it is always a few degrees cooler than Valencia.. Valencia is in the mountains not far from the sibulan in the mountains.. the twin lakes and sibulan in that area is a little higher in the mountains than Valencia and it is also more in the rural area of the province.. my kind of living!! when I get lonesome for Americans I will go down to dumaguete and rent a hotel for a week or two I shoot the bull until I have heard everybody's lies and told mine. Hehe😮😮😊
My first trip to Baguio was 1973. My first wife lived there. It was a vey nice quiet mountain town. It had the wonderful Camp John Hay, a US Military R&R spot. I have since been there 3 more times, last in 2017. I was shocked at the growth. The once quiet mountain town was now a bustling overcrowded, overgrown city. I hardly recognized it. I did not like it. But it certainly has cooler temps which is a nice break from the beach. Haven't been there yet but Batanes is on my list. Watch out, it frequently gets hits by typhoons.
Nice topic as been tagaytay as same as you was shivering when saw the island volcano as was shocked that is was so cold wished had a jacket . In Duma a lot as Valencia just helps take an edge off but that’s the most natural cold places I been besides the deli in Why Not as so cold to eat you need a blanket.
My preference is "comfortable' ! -- I'm 73 & I don't do heat or cold well. = Tagaytay '''sounds''' about perfect for my body 'most' of the time ? > I hear it's quite affordable even if your a bit on the frugal side in some areas - perhaps w/o the panoramic views ? -- From the few video's I've seen everything you need is pretty much there. Supposedly it does get quite crowded on the weekends with people from Manilla mostly. My suspicion is many Filipino's think it is too cold being used to much warmer.
Don Salvador Benedicto is supposed to be pretty cold too You didn't check that out on my trip next month.. I'm one of those people that want a cooler place to live.
You got my attention and after I watch it I will give you my opinion because I have been watching the weather in the Philippines for over 5 years.. I think I have something figured out and I will run it by you after I watch your video.. I just had to comment first because you really got my attention😮😮😊
Hi Gio. Great 👍 video and thanks for your list of the 5 cooler places to live in the Philippines. That list gives me some choices. Keep up the great work and you and Maya have a safe trip to and from Vietnam and Enjoy !!
Baguio is the best for me. Because nowhere it is more cooler. It’s usually 20 or even below 20* in the night. Also with San Juan and Pangasinan really near you can have beach from time to time.
Thanks for d Infos ,GIO.Would love to visit Bukidnon on my net visit.Been to Baguio,Osmena Peak,Tagatay but not BATANES .Heard BATANES s typhoon prone.Baguio a bit crowded. Nice video . Cheers 👍👍
Good video on cooler places in the Philippines. Thats what I will be looking for when I am there. When your in Da Lat I would be currious to see if you run across any expats and if there is a convenient way to do border runs from Da Lat. Have a good time in Viatnam. Cant wait to see your travels there.
I always try to find places with few foreignors, which often means staying away from the cooler areas but OMG! this past May was 116F in Samal Isle and the power was out half the time so no A/C, lol. Was a rough one, haha
I was in baguio last year coz my girlfriend wanted to go there. We started with nice weather and palm trees at the sea side and drove a road with a lot of traffic with slow trucs up and up. It became cold and rainy. The whole City was totally crowded with cars and the palm trees changed to pine trees. One of the sightseeing Hotspots was a strawberry field. I felt like in Germany. No more baguio for us 😂
I would go to these cities Gio it's way too hot here in the Philippines at times. I sweat just sitting down sometimes and electric fans don't always help me stay cool depending on how hot it is here. Have fun with Maya in Vietnam Gio take care 👍👍😎😎
Bagio is vulnerable to Volcanic eruptions. Mindanao is vulnerable to Terrorism. I'm thinking Valencia for me except poor infrastructure so.... Probably end up in or near Ormoc. It's the safest city in the Philippines, relatively cheap and with good hospitals and shopping plus it's a port with ferry access to Cebu.
Looks like there's a lot of room to stay cool up in the mountains of Luzon if you don't need as much city. With a little skill & know-how you could probably, nearly completely, retreat from the world there.
Power Interruptions happen when there's a strong storm or when there's a scheduled maintenance time. No power during this time is okay, because temperature is low, average of 12 to 18 Deg C.
😎👍🇺🇲 Ive actually been to a few of those places. Been to Apo hot springs. Tagutay for a couple of days. Tried to walk to the lake but I only made it about 5 away from the hotel. Turned around at the Starbucks 😏 before it got too hot. Been to Davoa city and Kitawpawn. Hopefully I can return in the Fall.
Is it safe for expats to live in rural areas in the Philippines? I am just beginning to learn about the country. I know it would not really be safe in many areas of places like Mexico due to issues with burglary or worse and you shouldn't drive at night and police shake you down, etc. Is it different in the Philippines?
If you want to live someplace without lots of people and very cold for the Philippines, then Maragusan in Davao De Oro. I haven't been but it's on my bucket list to visit as a vacation, not to live.
Coolest/coldest Philippines = Oxymoron. I have ridden my motorcycle in short sleeves at 17.6. I fish spring and fall tournaments every year in short sleeves at that temperature. It really has to get below 60 for me to get cool. Still I appreciate the video because its nice to know there are some places there where it is not one hundred and hell
The Philippines lowest temperature is 6.3 degree Celsius which was recorded in Baguio city on January 1961, but for the European standard 6 degree Celsius is still very hot. It needs to be at least negative 30 degree Celsius to be considered cold.
Hey Gio, I'm not sure how many of us watching your videos are from the U.S, but we're not conditioned yet to celsius temperatures. :( If it's not too much trouble to provide Fahrenheit temperatures in the future, as well, I for one would sincerely appreciate it! Otherwise, I have to stop your video to find a converter or a calculator. Lol. Thank you for the video!
I feel for the natives that live in the mountains where it's freezing all the time and almost always in the clouds. Imagine having to build a fire to heat water that you had to gather, just to rinse off without freezing
You know, the natives do have access to electric shower heaters there...for the more rural areas, it's no bother to them to build fire to heat water. Its part of their daily lives already.
The coldest I’ve been there is Baguio. I’m from Australia and never bring a jumper (sweater) and I froze my arse off in Baguio. Plus the place is overcrowded, and I wasn’t there peak season.
Becase there are lots of people there. People from other parts of the Philippines from nearby provinces and iloco speaking provinces go there for study and jpb opportunities. Others from further Luzon go there too for the same purpose.
I would not recommend going to Baguio for any reason whatsoever. Crazy traffic, nightmare bus rides, getting in and out of the city, way too noisy, crowded polluted, I was not happy there.
The climate in Malaybalay is warm, oppressive, and overcast. Over the course of the year, the temperature typically varies from 66°F to 86°F and is rarely below 62°F or above 90°F.
@@GiointhePhilippines So it’s coolerish because it’s cloudy but about 10 degrees cooler at night than Cebu. I guess I’d trade the clouds for the sun and same day temps and less rain days/year. I’ll def check it out though. The Regular guy just posted a Video about it and it looks good. He compares it to Baguio. Says it’s 10 times better because it’s cheaper and not crowded.
@@GiointhePhilippines Would you happen to know if I connect g cash to my PayPal and my PayPal already pulls from my master card will g cash actually pull from my master card as well?
Last year September I was going to my Pina place on Dinagat and she put my in a long sleeve shirt saying you'll get cold, and I was sweating 😂, and I looked at her and said "you'll get cold she says" 😂. But we laughed it off 😂
Top five coldest places in Philippines? LOL there are none. The weather is like Filipinas varying degrees of HOT. Gio, without sounding like a crackpot Batanes may not be a good location live just now. It marks the south end of the strategic Luzon Strait. If China escalates the Taiwan attack the first move will be to block that Strait and very likely occupy the southern islands as bases.
Bukidnon. Nothing there, you'll starve. Unless you like greasy scrambled eggs from a restaurant, and can live on mangoes and Filipino food. Not sure why dudes go to the Philippines who don't like tropical weather
Brah, we don't all know °F to °C. Conversions. Your still American, most of us are American to. As a rule, though I respect your efforts and enjoy these videos, I don't have much time for useless info. Important info given in a different measurement, like "Cubits. Sure I could look it up, but how hard is it to take a second and give °C &°F? Then I and most others would have enjoyed this video more. Don't be a tempature snobb, Gio.😂 Again Gio, I do enjoy most of your content, but this distracts from your content. Now I'm just questioning convertions instead of listening, but that was the whole point of the video. Don't take this wrong, but most of us are still working hard and don't have island time. Anymore , I quit watching longer videos due to time constraints. Who knows, maybe I'm the temperature snob. I hope this rude text finds you well and helps the quality of your content. Just remember who you were before this beautiful archipelago consumed the old you. It's always the little things. Maziltove to you and Maya and Semper Fi. I haven't been back since '92, but may arrive back this time retired next year. I look forward to shaking your hand, thanks Gio.
Not only Americans watch American videos, we Asians also watch them, I am from the Philippines. And if you have watched closely, Gio made a conversion on screen 😂. Most of the world uses Metric, only America uses Imperial system.

Is it true that Mt. Pulag once had snow in the year 1800?

I would go to these cities Gio it's way too hot here in the Philippines at times. I sweat just sitting down sometimes and electric fans don't always help me stay cool depending on how hot it is here. Have fun with Maya in Vietnam Gio take care 👍👍😎😎
Thank you
@@GiointhePhilippines You're Welcome
Thanks for the information
Balamban, Cebu. Don Salvador Benedicto, Negros Occidenntal. Malaybalay, Bukidnon.
There are no volcanoes in the vicinity of Baguio. What you're saying is Tagaytay.
Looks like there's a lot of room to stay cool up in the mountains of Luzon if you don't need as much city. With a little skill & know-how you could probably, nearly completely, retreat from the world there.
I'll have to check out the other valencia never heard of it before..
I wonder if there's any good hospitals close though
Good to know.
I hear Dumagetue has many brown outs, I wonder how Baguio/Tagatay fare in that regard
Much better I hear.
Power Interruptions happen when there's a strong storm or when there's a scheduled maintenance time. No power during this time is okay, because temperature is low, average of 12 to 18 Deg C.
😎👍🇺🇲
Ive actually been to a few of those places.
These places are ohio summer temps. Nice
You got that right!
Is it safe for expats to live in rural areas in the Philippines? I am just beginning to learn about the country. I know it would not really be safe in many areas of places like Mexico due to issues with burglary or worse and you shouldn't drive at night and police shake you down, etc. Is it different in the Philippines?
👍🏻 Vietnam. Will you visit Da Lat? Colder than Baguio 🙂
Yes, I'll be there for 3 or 4 days
Dalat is 4-5 degrees hotter than Baguio right now.
If you want to live someplace without lots of people and very cold for the Philippines, then Maragusan in Davao De Oro. I haven't been but it's on my bucket list to visit as a vacation, not to live.
When you went to Malabulay and Valencia City where did you stay

@@GiointhePhilippines thank you Gio!
17 degrees as a Brit that’s shorts and T-shirts weather!
-1 is Tshirt and shorts for me 😂
Coolest/coldest Philippines = Oxymoron. I have ridden my motorcycle in short sleeves at 17.6. I fish spring and fall tournaments every year in short sleeves at that temperature. It really has to get below 60 for me to get cool. Still I appreciate the video because its nice to know there are some places there where it is not one hundred and hell
It gets below 50 in Baguio and the smaller towns around there. It gets 32 on Mt. Apo.
If it's not too much trouble to provide Fahrenheit temperatures in the future, as well, I for one would sincerely appreciate it! Otherwise, I have to stop your video to find a converter or a calculator. Lol. Thank you for the video!
I actually flashed up a conversion to farenheit, I guess you missed it.
I know of a great place but not about to say where as still looking to buy property before it goes up
The coldest I’ve been there is Baguio.
My 3 spots in the PH are Boracay + Bohol + Siargao. All I need.
don't u know its people like u who makes baguio crowded and polluted.
Baguio is hard to get in and out of by road.
Average temp is 85-90 every month for Malaybalay. Doesn’t seem any cooler than Cebu 😂
I drove all over Mindanao and loved the Bukidnon region the best.
Can we hang out when I get to Philippine?
I'm originally from MN, now NC, I don't do cold, however I've noticed Filipino wearing long pants hoodies I can do hot but what about humidity
I'm originally from MN too! The Philippines doesn't have cold weather per say just cooler weather. Humidity isn't so bad.
Safe Travels Gio and Maya, I too plan a tour of Vietnam and maybe Thailand
Excellent
Ate you taking your time kettle translator?
Want to know how it performs with Vietnamese
Yes, I will. I'll include it in some videos.
"Cold?", right...
Nice
Baguio city is so cold there
Just wondering if you have a video talking about using g cash which pulls from your PayPal? If so please put a link here if you can (thank you)
I don't yet
@@GiointhePhilippines Would you happen to know if I connect g cash to my PayPal and my PayPal already pulls from my master card will g cash actually pull from my master card as well?
Segada??
Last year September I was going to my Pina place on Dinagat and she put my in a long sleeve shirt saying you'll get cold, and I was sweating 😂, and I looked at her and said "you'll get cold she says" 😂. But we laughed it off 😂
Funny 🤣
Where i live the average low is 18 and the average high is 24 in Maragusan Davao de Oro. 🥶
Is there any place that is cold in Philippines?? 🤪
Not really, but cool weather at most.
👍👍👍
Baguio is not what it used to be.....very crowded.
For Filipinos it's cold 😂
It's 55-75 year round in Baguio. How is that hot?
Bukidnon. Nothing there, you'll starve. Unless you like greasy scrambled eggs from a restaurant, and can live on mangoes and Filipino food.
Not sure why dudes go to the Philippines who don't like tropical weather
Im in malaybalay, it is cooler
Canlaon city in Negros Oriental didn't make the cut. Thanks NPA
Want to trade ?? Ontario Canada 💨💨 lol
Don't be a tempature snobb, Gio.😂
Again Gio, I do enjoy most of your content, but this distracts from your content.
I don't think you paid attention 😁. I did a conversion on the screen
Word
Is word code for 'my bad' 😂😂😂
Not only Americans watch American videos, we Asians also watch them, I am from the Philippines. And if you have watched closely, Gio made a conversion on screen 😂. Most of the world uses Metric, only America uses Imperial system.
The US, Liberia and Myanmar use Fahrenheit. Great company!
👏👏🎶🎶🌻
17C???? ok still no shirt = sweat lolololol
Better than over 30
17 C is the low temperature during the summer months. It gets much colder in the winter, like 6-10 C
