This type of technology nearly has destroyed the whole meaning of owning a train set, let alone collecting them. This hobby was once fun and affordable. Not anymore. Sad times.

I just pre-ordered the new Base3, but I wish I could still buy a Cab-2 (or, better yet, design a new refreshed Cab-2 that's more sleek and modern looking but still has all the same features).
I don't want to control my trains with my phone.

    Technical comment/ question.
8 bit to 9 bit communication.
    In computer development the bit changes were 8 / 16 / 32 / 64 / 128 bit.
CAN LIONEL'S COMMAND SYSTEM BE 16/ BIT USING ONLY 9 BIT.
IT JUST SEEMS TERRIBLE VERY +++ ODD +++ USING ONLY 9 BITS.

I have just bought a legacy system and live in the UK I have also ordered a Cab 1L so that I can have the flexibility many thanks for the instructional videos, as I am getting on a bit, 69, old, senile and still learning.

When Lionel change over to 9 bit, did they dump
all manufacturing of 8 bit equipment.
    .
This would have the effect of owners 8 bit
    parts going to hell.
All left alone to to spent $$$ thousands to
    upgrade.
    .
Did Long time Lionel train owners get a screwing .
