    Earth From Space
    Epic migration. Shifting seasons. The turning tide. Cameras in space capture natural spectacles on an epic scale and are now so advanced that they can track down individual animals and humans. Cutting-edge technology tells the story of life on Earth from a brand new perspective. Marvel at the dancing neon Northern Lights and the swirling blues of blooming plankton. Zoom in on herds of elephants searching for water, and discover previously unknown colonies of penguins. Satellites also capture disappearing forests and show cities sprawling over decades. With the Earth’s surface changing faster than ever before, can the view from space inspire us to look after our unique and fragile home?
    Welcome to BBC EARTH! The world is an amazing place full of stories, beauty and natural wonder. Here you'll find 50 years worth of entertaining and thought-provoking natural history content. Dramatic, rare, and exclusive, nature doesn't get more exciting than this.

      Dara Chan you can drag the camera around with your mouse on a PC. Or if you have a smart phone, you can just put it in fullscreen mode, stand up, hold the phone in front of you, and turn around. The phone can tell where you're moving, and will let you look around. I don't have VR either, just a phone, and it let me look all over the place

    • @mangasaint

      If watching it on a cell phone, this one supports “cross eyed” mode. At a close range u will be able to focus on both images, one per eye. Moving the phone and head around will give u a pretty decent view, it’s also in 3D but pretty weak. That’s how I watched it, wouldn’t bother setting up my psvr just for this.

      Yes, that is what happens during a total solar eclipse. The moon passes in front of the sun and casts a shadow on the Earth's surface.

    • @my3dviews
      @my3dviews 5 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      @@troysmith420 Why. What's fake about it? It's just a balloon with a camera on it during a solar eclipse. Lots of people launch their own balloons and do the same thing. Just wait for the next solar eclipse in 2024, launch it, then watch conspiracy nuts call your video fake.

      @@troysmith420 A 70 mile diameter shadow from an altitude of about 9.5 miles will look huge. You can easily figure out the angles (as I just did) when directly above the centre of the shadow, the edge will be 35 miles in each direction at an angle of almost 75 degrees from straight down. Or only 15 degrees down from horizontal in each direction.

    • @my3dviews
      @my3dviews 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@troysmith420 During the last total eclipse that went across the U.S, the area of totality had a diameter (not radius) of approximately 70 miles.
      www.vox.com/science-and-health/2017/7/25/15925410/total-solar-eclipse-2017-explained
      No, it is not impossible for a shadow to be smaller than the object that casts the shadow.
      An object can cast a shadow that is smaller than it, but only if the sight source is larger than the object casting the shadow. So, because the sun is larger than the moon, the shadow of the moon is smaller than it. The opposite is true if the light source is smaller than the object.
      The further that the moon is from Earth, the smaller that the shadow is during a solar eclipse. Because the orbit of the moon is elliptical, the distance is not always the same. In fact sometimes the moon is too far away to cause a total eclipse and you see a ring around the moon of where the sun is still visible. That is called an annular solar eclipse, and causes no shadow, or area of totality. bigkidscience.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/annular-eclipse-1.jpg
      The diagram at the top is obviously not to scale, but shows why the shadow is smaller than the moon.
      Think about this. If you go outside on a sunny day and threw a golf ball up in the air, would it cast a shadow on the ground that is larger than the ball? What if the ball was a mile high, would it cast a shadow? No, the ball from the point of view of the ground would not be large enough to block the sun, so would not cast a shadow. Same with the moon, the further away from Earth that it is, the less of the sun gets blocked so it no longer casts a shadow on the Earth.

    That is amazing! Well done pulling off such a project! Breathtaking views of Earth and the eclipse!
    I'm really keen to understand how you mounted the camera to offer 360 views and still ensure safe retrieval, without damaging the camera on landing. And did you have to worry about the camera spinning, or is the video stabilisation so good that it doesn't affect the 360 footage too much? Thanks a lot!

    Anyone else dizzy?
    It was really pretty though! The moon's shadow on the ground was so cool, and when the shadow passes over the balloon, if you look up, the sun suddenly vanishes. I guess cuse even if a tiny sliver of the sun is exposed, it's so bright it looks like there's no eclipse at all, but then when that last sliver of sun gets covered, it looks like it suddenly vanishes.
    Also like how the vid was slowmo'd for the balloon pop. Nice touch.

    • @my3dviews
      @my3dviews 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Right. The sun is so bright that even a sliver of it showing overexposes the camera's sensor.
