Definitely as they're too young to make their own choice, but when they're older they may have hated the fact that you had them on youtube, and were teased at school
How cute was the train ride! The Express Train!!! And lucky the kids had Santa on their train!?!!! Wow! How awesome!!! I was in Germany last year and every village was decked out for Xmas!!! Love it ! From the USA
It's a beautiful restoration, guys, and yeah, a lot of work for sure, but it's worth it. Thank you for sharing, so lovely to hear happy children and Finnegan is so cute. ❤
I'm getting a bit fed up with you two. With every video you release, I love you both just a little bit more. At 72yrs old, I only have so much love to give and you two are taking more of your fair share. Even my friends are falling in love with you.
Remove curtain above hallway storage unit. I suggest installing a pleated pull up shade. This will give you a clean look. A curtain will only be in the way of anything you choose to put in the top like books, bins, etc
I’m a fan of the warmth and texture of curtains. I keep them slightly above window ledges and floors because of the unkempt appearance of leaning and dragging drapery. Also, yuck, dirt stains! The light that comes through the bottom to the downstairs annoys me too. -My answers to everything are mostly limited to: shake it off!, a warm bath will help you feel better, and, add a bookshelf there! So, since you’re asking… pick up a couple of bookends and stand some books in front of those pesky stream of light! Another job done. 😊
Happy Yule, friends! My first thought on the curtains at the top of the stair - don't. Simple horizontal blinds that fit inside the window sills - white or natural wood. Voila! Your home is beautiful! Thanks so much for sharing!
Thank you! Happy Yule to you too! We would’ve done that, but our windows aren’t standard. Any blinds have to be custom made, which isn’t in the budget just now but hopefully down the line!
Thank you for the home tour, I love that kind of thing, your home is beautiful, I love your choice of wallpaper. For me I would drop the curtains to the top of the bookcase cupboard, it will keep out any draughts and stop the view under the curtains as you come up the stairs. Wishing you all a fabulous first Scottish Christmas in your own home. Best wishes Christine x
Thank you so much for the well wishes and the advice! I think the majority agree with you on the curtains, so I’ll make that change. Have a happy Christmas! ❤️
What a difference six months can make, it's elegant but cosy! Kids must have loved train ride and seeing a Scottish Santa!!😊 I wish you all a happy Christmas and a very special first hogmanay. Hope you can take it!!😂🎉
Zach is rapidly developing his Scottish accent, even though I think he has an ear that quickly picks up on accents as he was able to master an American accent just as well. Also acquired an incredible wife while in the States, a real beauty inside and out
Just a wee note to thank you for another entertaining and heartwarming vlog. Your house is now a home protecting you from our Scottish weather, but remember it is why Scotland is Scotland so please do not let it get you down. Merry Christmas to you all and a healthy Hogmanay.
Thank you very much! Despite the deadline, we had a great time making this video and were excited to share what we had done! We are ready for the Scottish weather and couldn't be happier. Thank you for your support, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you too! 🎅❤️
Love your home. Cozy. Well done on the DIY. I think the curtains should touch the top of the built-in. Makes for a cleaner look and blocks out additional light. Love the picture of Finnigan. Blessed Christmas 🎄 and Happy, Healthy New Year. 🎉
Hi, nice home. A little tip to try on your old stainless steel - put a couple of small drops of baby oil on a dry cloth and rub it over the surface. It will improve the look of the stainless steel. Merry Christmas🎄🎄
Another great idea my granny had was a curtain rail above her front door and on cold, snowy nights she would slide her heavy woollen curtain across her the inside of her front door and you will be surprised at how much warmer the entrance / small hallway was in her little house. Obviously it was like a double tartan travel blanket and about 2 inches longer than her front door and acted as a draught excluder for her front door. Very toasty. Plus longer curtains upstairs to again act as a draft excluder on your windows. We use to have winter and summer curtains for cold weather and summer weather seasons.
Maybe you should pick up some tile samples just to see how tile would look for the kitchen backsplash. Wood on the walls (& counters) is a lot of wood. Need some texture/ color. You made great tile choices in the bathrooms. In fact, all your upgrades look good!
Thank so much! I wanted to do something easier to install and that I wouldn’t feel bad about getting rid of down the line if/when we re-do our kitchen. It doesn’t function the best and has some cupboards that don’t fully open, so that would be a dream to do over some day. We did our own backsplash tiling in our last home, and that was a process 😅
There’s inexpensive, easy tile out there. Even peel and stick wallpaper laminate can be a stop-gap. But wainscoting over the stainless looks like a cleaning nightmare. -Your home is so lovely. However you update, will be thoughtful and well done!
I so look forward to your videos on Sundays. You both show only love and trust of each other, your precious kiddoes, your pup, and us, your viewers. Thank you for sharing your life, your home, and your experiences in Scotland. You are two very exceptional and very special people. Enjoy a very Happy and Merry Christmas!
That’s so sweet of you to say. Thank you! We had fun making this video and enjoyed showing a more personal side of our lives especially this time of year. Merry Christmas to you as well! ❤️
I love the fact there’s no tv 👍🏻 I haven’t watched tv in like 7 years, I live in Scotland 🏴 why would I even want to sit and watch tv, when there is mountains to climb, do you plan on doing a Munro anytime soon
We’d love to! Once the grandparents retire, we might sneak away for some day hikes here and there, which would just be too much for the tiny legged crew 😅
Hi Zach and Annie, I feel as if I've been really nosey watching your home tour! You have both done amazingly well and it is beautiful. What a lovely picture of Finnegan❤. I love the projector idea. Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and hope you have a smashing time over the holidays. xx
You did an amazing job on your home! It looks so nice! I can't believe what you did in 6 months!! Your fur baby is so cute as well and loved the photo of him- just perfect!! Merry Christmas!!
Ok, my 2nd. Entry. The house is just fabulous, so beautiful. You both are very clever in your DIYs and decorating. I, too, love sage green. I love your bathroom floor tiles, oh heck, I love everything. I feel a bit of a nosy neighbor looking in your house. Does that projector TV work in the USA, I wonder. I love that there is no visible TV in the room, brilliant. The train ride for the kids must have been so much fun. If you ever go to the Grand Canyon at Christmas they have a Christmas train especially for children. Thank you so much for sharing. And love Finnegan.
Thank you for this comment as well ❤️ Good question about the projector. We’ll look into to it. It solves so many problems for us, and we absolutely love it. It’s worth the investment, especially in a small space with quite a few obstacles. The decorating has been such a fun project. It’s been great getting to pick out our finishes and make the house ours. It helps us to feel more connected! Thanks again for watching ❤️
You started with a house but through hard work, created your home. Beautiful. Just my taste.😊 You asked about length of curtains, I would just have them skim the cill, just a tad longer than they are. The Aviemore trip looked so nice, making memories is what counts, enjoy family time together. They grow so quickly. Finnegan is such a cutie. Training takes time, love and patience and oh yes, cannot forget the treets. Remember to reward when he's correctly obeyed your command or will expect treats just for being your special family member lol, yes, it's trial and error but he will soon realise the reason for extra treats.😊 Remember, you do not owe any of your viewers a home tour. It's your own personal space. I watch for what you do, where you visit and of course adorable Finnegan. Having your Mum's crosstitch is precious, a real keepsake. Your poppies is such a nice touch. A reminder from the USA and now in Scotland,, hopefully your forever home 😊 Wishing you all a very happy first Christmas in your new home and a happy and healthy 2025
Thank you for watching and so glad you enjoyed the video! We enjoyed sharing our home with you and only post what we feel comfortable with, but we truly appreciate your support ❤️ Yes, Finnegan is definitely in the puppy learning stage, but he’s quite the smart little guy. We couldn’t have chosen better and look forward to his company for many years to come. We can’t wait to get back to Aviemore. With the kids in school full-time, it’s hard to get away for more than a quick weekend, but we will make the most of each upcoming break and hopefully get the opportunity to explore areas with a bit more time and less urgency. It’s nice to know we have the rest of our lives here though, and we need to keep reminding ourselves of that 😉😊 Happy Christmas!
Lovely home. I think here in the states we think we need more and more house. The only thing I wanted was three bedrooms two bathrooms and attached garage. Living in the Midwest. My house by US standards is small. 1800 sq ft. I think houses here are over the top of what people need.
You’re so right! It’s funny because our U.S. house was much larger but we always felt that we were somehow outgrowing it. Here, we’ve had a complete shift in our mindset and just feel more content and settled. We’re very grateful for that! Thanks so much for watching ❤️ Wishing you a wonderful holiday season!
Your house looks lovely and your comment ‘It seems like an easy quick job for her’, cracked me up as my wife’s the same, thinks every job she suggests can be done in a couple of hours while I contemplate weeks of work 😀
Haha exactly!! Annie’s visions are great, but I am learning how to do each job as I go. 😅 Thanks for watching. Hope you get a rest from home projects this Christmas!
Your house looks so festive and I love your Christmas decorations! Love the hutch and the pressed flowers in the living room and the wallpaper...so beautiful!! Your house looks so cozy! Well done! P.S. I totally agree with Zach regarding the Christmas Tree....the 'dark side'....LOL!! Happy New Year!
Aletta! Great to hear from you, and I'm so glad you were recommended the video. I got you Facebook friend request. As you can see, there are some updates since we last met! 🤣 Hope you're doing well. All the best, Zach ❤️
Your house looks beautiful lovely and cosy you have made it your own . Loving little finnegan he is so cute . Merry Christmas to you and your family . Love from the UK 🇬🇧 xxx
Hi my first time commenting though I watch your videos every week.Thank you for sharing, thank you for your humility and honesty, and thank you for bringing such a wonderful quality platform ,and the fun that goes with your travels , and I noticed Annie said Maths! Not long before a few more words start. Happy Christmas and New year I’m looking forward to more videos next year, if ever you do decode to visit outside of Scotland may I recommend the Yorkshire Dales ! Swaledale , Muker and others , not taking away the stunning beauty you have your door step .
Awe, thank you for taking the time to comment and to watch our videos ❤️ We do truly appreciate the support! It’s been fun having this all documented, and I think it’ll be wonderful to look back on these as a family one day if they’re still available. Yes, slowly but surely trying to acquire some new vocabulary. It’s great, because the kids are also starting to sound slightly British now. Time will tell! Wishing you a happy Christmas! We definitely have our sights set on those locations for future travels btw 😉
Fantastic video, loved watching this one. Small cosy house. My dream house, but in Wales not Scotland. Love the decor. Love the tiny fire place. To you all have a Loving and Happy Christmas.
Don't forget the Bo'ness and kinneil railway. Plus the caledonian railway up at Brechin. With some luck tornado will hopefully be doing some main line tours out of Edinburgh next year.
It all looks lovely. Your landing curtains should skim the surface of the cupboard. They are very pretty but would look better with lining. They are easy to put in . Just unpick the lower edge of the top & side seams ,lay down the lining & re stitch. The hem can be loose.
Thanks so much! The curtains are already lined and quite think - thank goodness! One less job for me! They were just too short, so the light was shining in from a certain angle. I’ll make them a bit longer! Hope you had a lovely Christmas!
I just discovered you guys. Love the videos I have seen so far and your move to Scotland. I particularly love that you respect your children's privacy. Happy New Year!
Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us- between you, you definitely have an eye for a beautiful calming scheme that helps to make the house feel at its most spacious! Everything has been tied in so beautifully. I LOVE your Finnegan portrait by the front door. Having a projector instead of a TV is such a great idea - if you don''t have it on all the time it can be just packed away out of sight, rather than dominating the wall and the room. Merry Christmas to you all!
Thank you so much! Annie is the one behind all the design and decoration. I'm just there to help her make it happen! 🤣 We are so happy with Finnegan's photo shoot and got a number of fantastic pictures! Yes the projector is working out great and is almost completely out of sight when not in use! Thank you again and Merry Christmas 🎅
Hello from WVa! I've really enjoyed this and your other videos from the Motherland (my mother was a Dunn!). House is lovely, the train adventure looks just fabulous, esp for the kids. I am feeling the Christmas spirit.. Thank you!
What a really lovely makeover of your home. It's very neutral, but very calming and comfortable. You have a very good eye for interior design, Annie and an able, if not always willing, apprentice in Zach !! 😂😂, Keep him at it 🔨🔫🪛🪚
Zach and Annie, we saw the video on the thirteen foods you tried, and my Irish wife Àine started shouting at the screen when you pulled out the Marmite ! Guys the jar size should have been the dead give away ! She spreads that stuff as thin as possible across toast ! Loved your reaction though !! Tim in California
Hahaha! We did get a lot of 'feedback' about that tasting so re-did it on the next video and Annie now loves it! I'm still not on board! Thanks for watching!
@ Thank you! And I hope you all have an amazing Christmas too! 🎄 Is this your first UK Xmas Annie? Would be fun to hear your comparisons of a UK and US Christmas dinner from you both 🙂
Hope you had a Merry Christmas! Early in my wife's & my relationship, we tried wallpapering a stairway. What a disastrous experience (yes it had a small floral pattern)! The relationship survived, the wallpaper did not! Nice DYI updates, and a lovely home. Cheers
Thanks so much! We are enjoying how it’s all coming together and are feeling very festive! ❤️ Merry Christmas! Finn is definitely the star of the show these days 😉
Merry Christmas from Connecticut! I’ve been fortunate to travel to Scotland many times and I enjoy watching your families journey, and I’m also jealous! You’ve done a fantastic job with the house. Have a very happy new year!
I think your home is amazing!!! Happy Holidays to you all. You’ve proved a house is just geography… a home is the souls within!! I love your channel… Thank you!!!✌️🙂🎄❤️
Merry Christmas Zach and Annie🎄🎅🏻! You’ve done an awesome job on your house in just 6 months. It’s beautiful 🌟. I feel your pain with the out-of-level walls. Our house is a Cape Cod style built in 1948 with lath and plaster walls. We think each and every one of them was done by eye😅. You and your family enjoy your holidays!
The train ride looked liked so much fun. Thank-you for the house tour, what an improvement! Just a thought about the window in the stairwell, have you considered a blind? It could be mounted inside the window frame, is tidy and minimalist and would allow you to use the top of the cupboard. I am looking forward to the Costco comparison, I live in Canada, shop at Costco so the price comparisons should be interesting 🇨🇦
Your wee home is absolutely beautiful. Love everything you’ve done. I also love the projector idea and will definitely be looking into that in the future. Hope you guys had a great first Christmas as Scottish residents.
I love the window glass in your bathroom. Zack your built-ins are great and nice decorating job Annie! I just subscribed. I think you could make the curtains two inches longer at the top of the stairs. That artificial tree looks very real! Cute doggy.
The curtains should go longer then the window , so they sit just slightly above the built in unit " by a fraction " . Your home is beautiful . Sending you Christmas wishes to the family .
You have done so much in a short time, simple, beautiful, I think a roman blind would look better than curtains. The space would be less fussy. You both are very welcoming and fun all the best in 2025 health n happiness. "Lang, may yir lum reek ××××❤
I’ll enter more than one comment so I don’t forget what to say. Finnegan pic is so cute, perfect entrance. You guys have do a fabulous job n all so far. I’m up to the curtains. Put the rod right at the ceiling and curtains down to the cabinet top. I don’t think I would puddle them there but just touch it.
Loved the home tour great job with DIY Try Wickes and Screwfix if B and Q doesn't meet all of your needs ! Love the hotel and Santa train trip and of course the cute puppy pictures and appearances!
Help us get to 20,000 subscribers if you like today’s video! Also, don’t forget to check out BenQ’s projector here! It’s been a wonderful addition this winter season: www.benq.eu/en-uk/projector/cinema/gp520.html

It's a beautiful restoration, guys, and yeah, a lot of work for sure, but it's worth it. Thank you for sharing, so lovely to hear happy children and Finnegan is so cute. ❤
All the unevenness and that stuff is what gives it character and charm. Absolutely beautiful.
Agreed! Thank you so much and merry Christmas!
I see that Zach's Scottish sing-song speaking and accent have grown stronger over the last number of videos
Glad to hear it!
House looks lovely ! I think a WEE bit longer on the curtains (see what I did there ?) they would look best if they just cleared the shelf I think 🤩
Haha, you are so right! I’ll have to give that a try 😉
Agreed!
Wow! Love your house…..it’s so welcoming and cosy. Thanks for sharing with us. Wishing you all a Merry Christmas 🎅
Thank you! You too! We appreciate the kind comment ❤
Longer for the curtains Annie . Love your house . Merry Christmas xx

I would go with a shutter on the window. But if you want curtains make them to the bench top
Thanks for the suggestion! Merry Christmas 🎅

Thank you so much! Small but packed with character that we’ll continue to enhance with time hopefully. Merry Christmas!🎄❤️

Glad you enjoyed it! We can’t wait to get to Wales. One day! Happy Christmas to you as well ❤️
You guys have a beautiful aesthetic!
Merry Christmas🎄
Thanks so much! Merry Christmas to you too!
The house looks great.Well done.
Thank you! Cheers! 🎄❤️🏴
Love your updates to the house. Everything looks fabulous!
Thank you so much! ❤️
Glad you went on the santa train. Aviemore is lovely. Been in the strathspey railway last to summers. Lovely mountain views and of the spey of course.
So beautiful up in that direction! We’ll
Happily do more steam train excursions! Thanks for watching ❤️
Don't forget the Bo'ness and kinneil railway. Plus the caledonian railway up at Brechin. With some luck tornado will hopefully be doing some main line tours out of Edinburgh next year.
I love it. Very sympathetically done. And the under stairs loo is very practical too.
Thank you so much! ❤️ We are pleased with how it’s coming together. Happy new year!
It's so gorgeous! Very cozy. Nice job
Thank you! Cheers! ❤️ It finally came together!
Your house is lovely Annie has a good eye for things wishing you all a very merry Christmas ❤
Yes, Annie has the artistic eye, both for home decor and for our video edits 😄
Also, thank you and Merry Christmas! 🎅❤️
Merry Christmas 🎅 🎄 I've been on that train in Aviemore ❤
The train was fantastic! Thanks for watching, Merry Christmas! 🎅❤️
I just discovered you guys. Love the videos I have seen so far and your move to Scotland. I particularly love that you respect your children's privacy. Happy New Year!
Thanks so much! We appreciate that you've enjoyed our videos so far! ❤️
Thanks so much! We appreciate that you've enjoyed our videos so far! ❤️
Thank you!
Awesome! Thank you! Merry Christmas 🎅
A beautiful renovation. Lovely and inviting. Thanks for welcoming us in. Merry Christmas.
Thanks so much! Merry Christmas! 🎄🎅
What a really lovely makeover of your home. It's very neutral, but very calming and comfortable. You have a very good eye for interior design, Annie and an able, if not always willing, apprentice in Zach !! 😂😂, Keep him at it 🔨🔫🪛🪚
Thank you so much! Took quite a bit of teamwork, but we’re almost there now. Thanks for watching and merry Christmas! ❤️
Curtain touching the counter top. Beautiful home
Will do!!
The house looks great guys. Really beautiful reno. Love the style and colours, proper cosy and cottage vibes ❤
Thanks so much! 😊 That’s what we were going for, so we’re pleased that it turned out as planned. Wishing you a merry Christmas! ❤️
@ Thank you! And I hope you all have an amazing Christmas too! 🎄
Is this your first UK Xmas Annie? Would be fun to hear your comparisons of a UK and US Christmas dinner from you both 🙂
@@gra-emed3617 I have been in Scotland for Christmas and New Year before, but it's been many years!
Hope you had a Merry Christmas! Early in my wife's & my relationship, we tried wallpapering a stairway. What a disastrous experience (yes it had a small floral pattern)! The relationship survived, the wallpaper did not! Nice DYI updates, and a lovely home. Cheers
Ah yes, wallpaper! We’re not going anywhere near the stairs! 😂
Merry Christmas friends ❤️
Same to you! ❤️🎄
Beautiful home renovation ❤❤❤❤. The Santa Express seemed so idealistic🥹🎄❤️Merry Christmas and happy New Year to you all. Finnegan is adorable ☺️
Thanks so much! We are enjoying how it’s all coming together and are feeling very festive! ❤️ Merry Christmas! Finn is definitely the star of the show these days 😉

Hi. Amazing job. Looks beautiful 👌. Merry Christmas to you and your family. 🌲🧑🎄☃️🎁❤️
Thank you! You too! ❤️🎄
Your house looked very festive for the holidays! The weekend trip to the hotel and Santa train looked amazing! How fun for you all!
Thanks so much! Festive is what we were going for. It’s a busy holiday season as usual but so much fun! Merry Christmas 🎄
That was a sweet vlog looking forward to more.
So glad you liked it! We have a fun one for this Sunday!
Thank you so much! Haha yes, the uneven, plaster walls are extra fun for everyone 😉😅 Have a merry Christmas!
I wouldn't worry about Curtains on the upstairs landing, a roller blind can look better and like a pelmet, and lets more light in.
Thanks for the suggestion!
Thank you for watching and for the blinds suggestion. All the best!
Love watching your vlog 😊 thanks for sharing!
Thanks so much for watching - we’re having a blast making them!
Really loved the tour. You’ve created a cosy and beautiful home ❤❤
Thanks so much! 😊
Your wee home is absolutely beautiful. Love everything you’ve done. I also love the projector idea and will definitely be looking into that in the future. Hope you guys had a great first Christmas as Scottish residents.
Thanks so much for the kind words. We had a really lovely Christmas!
I love the window glass in your bathroom. Zack your built-ins are great and nice decorating job Annie! I just subscribed. I think you could make the curtains two inches longer at the top of the stairs. That artificial tree looks very real! Cute doggy.
We’re glad you like the home! Thanks for the compliments. ❤️
The curtains should go longer then the window , so they sit just slightly above the built in unit " by a fraction " . Your home is beautiful . Sending you Christmas wishes to the family .
Thanks for the tip! Merry Christmas 🎅
You have done so much in a short time, simple, beautiful, I think a roman blind would look better than curtains. The space would be less fussy. You both are very welcoming and fun all the best in 2025 health n happiness. "Lang, may yir lum reek ××××❤
Thank you so much! Some others have suggested blinds for the top of the stairs, good suggestion. Thank you again and all the best for 2025!
Your house is beautiful, a lovely mix of trad British and American. Very stylish Christmas decorations. Merry Christmas to you both.
Thank you so much! Merry Christmas to you as well ❤️🎄
My oven cleaner shared a tip with me for getting rid of smears on stainless steel - a thin smear of olive oil. Try it.
This is so helpful! Trying tomorrow. Thank you!
@@SimpleScottishLiving Or maybe it was baby oil? Try both
Thank you for sharing , wishing you and your family a very merry Christmas ✨
Thank you so much! Right back at you! ❤️
Thank you for the suggestion!
Thanks so much for this. Very kind of you 2. You 2 are looking good too. Best wishes Andrew McDonald Scotland
Thanks so much! Wishing you a merry Christmas!
@SimpleScottishLiving Merry Christmas to you and your family. X
Happy Hogmanay, one and all! Looking forward to your reflections on bringing in the new year. Blessings to you and yours for 2025.
Thanks so much - we hope you have a happy Hogmanay too! ❤️
It is really cozy ! ❤❤❤
Thank you!!
Loved seeing the cozy fire. Merry Christmas. Here in Adelaide south Australia we are having 39c on Christmas Day
Thank you so much!
Loved the home tour great job with DIY
Try Wickes and Screwfix if B and Q doesn't meet all of your needs !
Love the hotel and Santa train trip and of course the cute puppy pictures and appearances!
Will do! Thank you ❤️ Yes, it was a lovely getaway, and the kids were in Heaven. Wishing you a merry Christmas!🎁🎄
