@@luresse exactly 🤣🤣🤣. How many seats did this plane have?? I've seen dozens of ppl saying their "uncle, aunt, neighbor, old Dentist" etc etc was supposed to be on the flight but missed it lol. I'm just not buying it anymore. Sorry lol
It’s sad that the only brave man who took action to rally passengers against the hijackers died in the crash. I understand the passengers were afraid to react to hijackers, but in that situation they were dying anyway. Instead of fighting for their lives when the had the chance, they chose not to do anything about it, not to mention they inflated their life jackets on plane. Maybe if they controlled the hijackers, the pilot could have done a safe emergency landing instead of crash landing, and saved more lives.
They didn't fully know what the captain wanted + didn't know if their action would just result in the plane blowing up and everyone dying vs the water landing where people could survive + the one who did react was used to war situations vs everyone else who weren't
until you’re in the situation yourself, i feel it’s unjust to judge others for not reacting to the hijackers. i’m sure a lot of them froze out of fear, shock, or even denial. it’s completely understandable that faced with the proposition of the hijackers blowing up the plane (which would kill everyone on board), others would’ve been more content with staying seated. we don’t know what would’ve happened had the passengers reacted, but it could’ve very likely ended up with the whole plane blowing up with no survivors. at least with the ditching 50 people were able to survive. i’m sure the ones who survived the ditching are glad they didn’t react because they could’ve lost their lives had the hijackers blown up the plane. and i’m sure some of the ones who didn’t survive regretted not reacting to the hijackers in the last moments of their life. but they couldn’t have known they would die in the ditching, nor could they have known they would’ve survived reacting to the hijackers. bottom line is, they had every right to decide not to react to the hijackers.
@@kathleenharris6068 please read my comment above. the psychological component of fear that they would blow up the plane is a just reason for them not to react. and in fear and panic of losing one’s life, you don’t always think rationally. they didn’t know if they would die when the plane ran out of fuel, 50 people did survive this crash after all, however no one would’ve survived had the hijackers blown the plane up. there’s no way of knowing what would’ve happened had they reacted, but you can’t know for sure that more would’ve survived had they reacted. it’s just lucky 50 people got to survive this horrific incident.

If the hijackers sound stupid think on this, during the Rhodesian wars in South Africa many captured soldiers had their gun sights set to the highest number because they thought it made the gun shoot harder.
What got me was the fact that the hijackers were not aware about planes, how to fly them or how to read the gages for fuel. I would have thought that the hijackers would be far more prepared and trained than this bunch. No wonder their plans failed.

This "Mayday" is just astounding~! The heroism of the pilot is beyond heroism, even. I agree w the other commentators that in situations like this, passengers may as well fight back. Yes, a few may die trying and not everyone can be courageous, but there are fates worse than death. Easy to say sitting safely behind my keyboard though. I do not know how courageous I would be and what if your children or grandchildren are with you? Then what? I guess its a minute by minute decision making that happens inside your now frantic brain.
As someone who works in the industry, you should always listen to the crew.. The passengers were told not to inflate their life vest, sadly some didn't listen. Great Aviation story🇯🇲🇯🇲 💛❤️💙
So the plane broke into 3 pieces and those pieces with people rapidly sank and many people were now quickly under water. Despite being given instruction on how to use the life vest and floatation device under the seat it seems to come down that in a water landing only those who can swim will be able to save themselves. It appears.
Wow!! I salute both the pilot and the copilot for their bravery and commitment to getting the passengers to safety. Unlike those 3 low life dick heads who have no value for their lives or the passengers, they were able to save at least some of them if not all. They risk their lives and fought to the end. I always like to fly Ethiopian airlines. No matter how the western tried to blame the very experienced young pilot captain Yared Getachew and the copilot of the 737 max accident, we know they did what a pilots would do to save the aircrafts and the lives that came with it. Go Ethiopian!!
I agree with everything except your wrong information about the passengers, as 50 out of 175 were saved, so very far from "if not ALL"... but without the Captain, there might have been none.
The worst thing about the 737 max disaster was the pilots did what Boeing asked to do as the workaround. The workaround was not tested for edge cases and did not work. Workaraound was to switch off the power trim and try to move the trim wheels manually. BUt at certain speeds and AoA it is physically impossible to move the wheels. Meanwhile everyone blamed the pilots. Boeing changed the controls without telling anyone. In the 737 NG you could switch off the auto trim and still use power to trim manually as there were 2 separate switches. In the 737 Max not only did Boeing add MCAS they also changed the behaviour of the switches which means either you have auto trim or you have manual trim but you cant have power assisted manual trim. The AoA and speed the pilots were at it was physically impossible to manual trim without power assist and as soon as they switched power assist on MCAS switched back on as well. This problem still exists in the 737 Max. They have added fixes in software to limit how far MCAS can go and they have added data from both AoA sensors. But the ability to switch off auto trim while using power assist to trim is still not there in the plane.
exactly the case, passengers outnumber the hijackers. On one of the 9/11 planes the last one actually, passengers were able to rally and overpower but once they made it the hijackers desperately dove the plane fast. In this case the passengers had them if they took action early
I know my neighbour i grew up with her in Jericho Lumumba estate in Nairobi Kenya who lost her entire family in this horrific crash. It was so sad. God continue to give you strength my sister

To the two pilots always remember to pray before take off there is a reason why God has continued protecting you in those dangerous situations
I remember watching the actual video of the plane crashing into the water kudos to all the people on the beach that went to the plane to save the passengers.
It puzzle me to think that 172 people refuse to over power 3 insane criminals. Had that plane had on Caribbean passengers those hijackers would have been beaten,, and tied up to be handed over to police and authorities at the closest airport. Much respect to captain Abate and his co- pilot for the 50 lives saved. I have travelled to many destinations around the world and I have always paid close attention to the demonstrations given before take off during flight and landing. Had all the passengers listened to the pilot the hijackers would have been captured and inflating the life jackets before the crash was a huge error. It would have to be an inside job that 3 criminals passed security and scanners to do do their dirty work. I hope those responsible on the ground have been charged and still in jail or have died
We all have a subconscious fight or flight mode. These passengers went into flight mode by ignoring the calls for help. The reporter should have had more support just like the pilot. Fortunately, the pilot and crew were so highly skilled they protected as many as they could.
The captain is a hero. The majority of the men passengers, besides one or 2, a bunch of cowards. They knew the plane was out of fuel and was going to crash but did the ostrich in the sand bit anyway. I would rather die fighting than meekly on my seat pretending it wasn't happening and that I would be lucky enough to survive. We see this today all over the place - one mugger with a knife in a train carriage robbing all the passengers etc.
It’s not so easy. If there really is a bomb, you might be dooming everyone. Many times they legit have bombs or grenades, not the best airport security there…
Except for that one guy, who continued to try to talk them down even after everyone else refused to join him. He lost his life because he was standing up trying to talk them down to the very end. He was a hero. Who knows? If others had joined in and helped him in the beginning, this hijacking could’ve ended with a safe landing and no lives lost. May he Rest In Peace.
See, if someone, during the safety presentation, had explained *why* inflating the life vests before landing/crashing in water is a bad idea, maybe people wouldn't have done it. People need to explain the why.

I feel very sorry for the passengers and crew on-board and kudos to the heroes on this flight because you all are truly inspirational. This video is also very well made and I applaud the creators for it. You all are doing some great work out here by spreading awareness and giving knowledge and precaution. It really does suck that aviation is such a field that new precaution can come with a tragedy and grave mistake. Whatever the case, rest in peace, victims, and good job, survivors. ❤
An amazing Ethiopian hero we are proud 👏🏽🙏🏼
I was grade 9 student when this incident happened. We just prayed in our class before we started learning. One of a prominent Ginologist named Dr Isak from my town was boarded in this plane an survived , when he gave testimony In the church I was there too , he was mentioning the name of Jesus repeatedly at that panic situation.
Dr Isaac passed by sickness before two years while he was serving lord , where he was born.
There are some good Samaritans out there...kudos to those who ran to help the passengers
What brave men, it’s just soo sad that those three weren’t overpowered, but you had to be in their position to understand.
Interesting. The world never heard about this hero. Smiles
Imagine if he was a white pilot who does this
Great pilot and copilot survived
That pilot has my upmost respect.
Much respect for the Captain. To be hijacked twice and still want to fly! Crazy
Salute to the pilot and survivors and condolences to the bereaved families of deceased passengers and crew members.
Capt Abate you are a hero and saved lives risking yours, thankyou.
The idiots didn't know what they were doing.i feel sorry for the victims who lost their lives.glad atleast few saved.
brave ethiopian pilots..wow
Thank you; it is some kind of pleasure to us
@Steve we don't need this kind of racist people on board as well. Trust me, you are doing us a favor.
@Steve the ethiopian can teach a white people how to flay are craft
@Steve English is my 3 rd language ok how many language you can speak and write engish speakers are lezy they only speak one languge and for more the back bone of europe development are the stolen document from ethiopia
@Steve ethiopian pilot are the best in the world that why ethiopian airline are the safest airline in the world have only 2 crashed in century the lowest crashed compare to other airlines
Thank ~ You for providing these REAL LIFE STORIES... I love watching these although I do get 'freaked-out a time or two' & quiet watching them for a while... I ALWAYS come back!
this is so sad but im glad it happened to this captain of anyone else honestly, regardless of how he handled it he literally has been through it twice and it was the best case scenario for something so ruthless. i hope he has continued to have safe and happy journeys since!
Congratulations on performing a miracle Captain and Copilot. If more passengers had listened to the Captain, I believe more passengers would have survived.
❤❤❤ Exactly
I was a grade 5 student when this happened and I remember my uncle actually was a bit late for this specific plane and missed the flight.
I've seen that comment a dozen times.
@@trawlins396 way toooo often. In almost every video. It’s becoming ridiculous
@@luresse exactly 🤣🤣🤣. How many seats did this plane have?? I've seen dozens of ppl saying their "uncle, aunt, neighbor, old Dentist" etc etc was supposed to be on the flight but missed it lol. I'm just not buying it anymore. Sorry lol
lets hope the captain does not get high jacked again...what are the odds terrific flying well done sir...
To the captain and your co-pilot, thank you for your bravary and service... bless you.
Amazing pilot.. his really calm even in a worst situation. Salute for saving more life.
Exactly their gonna die anyways so what's the point of fighting?
I totally agreed with you.
Damn how unlucky do you have to be to be hijacked 3 times in your career ?
That's Africa for you
man’s tough. i’d crumble under ptsd after the one and never fly again.
2 times
They really hijacked a fucking plane to get asylum in Australia as if Australia was gonna say, "You hijacked a plane and committed an act of terrorism? Come on in!"
@@El_Finesse this was the 3rd one
The Pilot was a true hero n only by God's sufficient Grace all ended well. I pray for for total confusion in the enemy's camp in Jesus mighty name Amen
This is so terrifying. Brave pilot
God bless the pilot and keep him safe
The pilot should have been given a statue in the place where they were rescued. His ONLY concern the whole time were his passengers.
That's true... when you get on you certainly aren't thinking 'humm I wonder if our plain is going to crash today '
Maybe they should!
I wondered if the people that lived we're able to contact the Doctors from being on the island to thank them as well as survivor's & of course that incredible pilot!
@@codijo-myalaskandog122 I reckon definitely they would have got in contact
If the hijackers sound stupid think on this, during the Rhodesian wars in South Africa many captured soldiers had their gun sights set to the highest number because they thought it made the gun shoot harder.
What got me was the fact that the hijackers
were not aware about planes, how to fly
them or how to read the gages for fuel.
I would have thought that the hijackers
would be far more prepared and trained
than this bunch. No wonder their plans
failed.
Surviving three hijacks & saving many passengers in his career, the pilot is certainly super hero. 👍!
Absolutely blows my mind that so many people survived that crash.
The Ethiopian pilots is amazing great job 👏❤️🇪🇹💯

This "Mayday" is just astounding~! The heroism of the pilot is beyond heroism, even. I agree w the other commentators that in situations like this, passengers may as well fight back. Yes, a few may die trying and not everyone can be courageous, but there are fates worse than death. Easy to say sitting safely behind my keyboard though. I do not know how courageous I would be and what if your children or grandchildren are with you? Then what? I guess its a minute by minute decision making that happens inside your now frantic brain.
What horror it must have been for all onboard that plane. May the souls of those who died rest în peace.
Ethiopian captains are still the best in the world.
Yes they arr
Yes
Nah
I was a flight attendant for almost 12 years, a ditching was my worst fear. It rarely works out.
These pilots are great heroes especial captain abate..love this story so much. One l❤ve 🇯🇲
7:49 I like how calm he says that as if were nothing lol.....omg that pilot having already had two hijacks is crazy!!
Thanks for bringing this video back!
As someone who works in the industry, you should always listen to the crew.. The passengers were told not to inflate their life vest, sadly some didn't listen.
Great Aviation story🇯🇲🇯🇲
💛❤️💙
They panicked
I think more would have survived if they had been told WHY they shouldn't inflate their life jackets.
Under so much stress I don't blame at all ...
So the plane broke into 3 pieces and those pieces with people rapidly sank and many people were now quickly under water. Despite being given instruction on how to use the life vest and floatation device under the seat it seems to come down that in a water landing only those who can swim will be able to save themselves. It appears.
My friend from Britain died in this flight. Some passengers remembered him comforting fellow passengers with Bible verses.
He was an elder of our Church.
If I am not mistaken, it was Caleb Meakin’s father?
the pilots are so brave and smart so proud
This is so beyond horrifying. Dear God. I can't imagine
God bless this pilots and passengers.
These Ethiopian Airlines pilots are true heroes. Wow.
May God blessed my Ethiopian hero pilot and the passengers he did d a good job
Only 50 out of 175 survived so it was a massacre. Thanks to the pilot 50 people survived at all.
@@prabuddhaghosh7022 Thank you, thank you !!! I always feel sorry to those two young brave pilots. RIP to all the passengers on bored !

What a hero! Proud of you Sir , you are brave and a hero.

To the 122 passengers and crew of Ethiopian Airlines Flight 961
RIH
To the three hijackers of Ethiopian Airlines Flight 961
This was kinda sad because it could have been prevented
exactly the case, passengers outnumber the hijackers. On one of the 9/11 planes the last one actually, passengers were able to rally and overpower but once they made it the hijackers desperately dove the plane fast. In this case the passengers had them if they took action early
They had a bomb and they claim they are 11.
They sat like a bunch of chickens waiting to die
I know my neighbour i grew up with her in Jericho Lumumba estate in Nairobi Kenya who lost her entire family in this horrific crash. It was so sad. God continue to give you strength my sister
Lord this was a breath taking incident condolences to all those who lost their loved ones on this plane and to those who survived you all have a reason to thank God and have faith in him you shall live to testify of his goodness. To the two pilots always remember to pray before take off there is a reason why God has continued protecting you in those dangerous situations
God bless you brave pilot you guys are hero.
Tribute to Captain Abate,co pilot and the crew who distributed survival kits
I remember watching the actual video of the plane crashing into the water kudos to all the people on the beach that went to the plane to save the passengers.
Please
@@ifygabriel1625 That video of the air crashing into the water is IN THIS video, lol... What is your "please" all about?
Imagine dealing with ppl so dumb they don't know how fuel works - WW
Also imagine with no engine at all the hijacker asking the pilot to increase the power .. like wtf!!!!
Can imagine.
They weren't sure if they really had a bomb.
@@trawlins396 Well with 60% of the people dying including those kids and that crying baby they might as well had unleashed a bomb.
Unparalleled Courage on the Captains part. Stay Safe and Take Care of yourself Captain!❤
We all have a subconscious fight or flight mode. These passengers went into flight mode by ignoring the calls for help. The reporter should have had more support just like the pilot. Fortunately, the pilot and crew were so highly skilled they protected as many as they could.
Capt. Leul Abate you are truly a legend, your bravery and courage knews no death you are the instrument of God, salute sir!
The bravery of the pilot is on another level
Salute to Pilot !
It was so sad
It's the unfortunate reality of the bystander effect l, everyone thinking that SOMEONE ELSE would stand up and help, such is sooo ANNOYING
Exactly what I was thinking. You're doomed anyway, but not going to go out TRYING? Completely effeminate.
I respect pilots so much thanks for the good work 🥰
These passenger were supposed to do something they could have stopped hijackers if they wanted.. but captain did amazing job... Outstanding...
I am ashamed of those young men inside that plane.. they couldn't even try to take down the highjackers
May God bless that pilot😭♥️
