- In today's video, we are Slow Stitching Some Beautiful Chaos as we create the background for our March Panel. This is Part 1 of our March Stitch Along where we will be taking inspiration from spring flowers to create our piece of textile art.
If you like what you see and want to catch all the videos in this series, you can subscribe to this channel, and if you click the notifications bell, you will never miss an upload.
Join me at 2.30pm GMT every Sunday for a restful time of slow stitch, embroidery and textile art. Each month we are going to create a complete piece of art that we will create bit by bit each week.
Feel free to follow my design, use my piece as inspiration, or you could use the same techniques as me to create something totally original.
I hope to try lots of new things this year as I create my 2024 stitched journal. I hope you will come along for the ride!

Have you tried mixing acrylic with fabric medium. It leaves a much softer hand. I love all your ‘winged’ projects. 😊
Someone else suggested fabric medium. I didn't know it even existed. It's definitely something I need to investigate as it will open up a whole range of fabric techniques to me. Who knows, I might even make a video about it! Thanks so much for watching. 🤗
As another had stated Wow the background is wild. However, with your beautiful stitching again Wow in a really good way. If you use acrylic on fabric, try using a fabric medium such as GAC900 by Golden. There are several other brands. This will make the fabric soft. Thank you for sharing.
That's a really great tip. Thank you. I am enjoying finding new ways of working this year. Some will work, some won't, but I'll learn something every time. My priority this year is to enjoy the process. A couple of years ago I would have persevered with my first version, hating every minute, but now, I'm allowing myself to step away. It's very liberating! I'm so glad you like where it's going. 😊
That nice
Thanks so much.
You welcome
Hi
Can’t wait to see how this panel turns out. The background is so vibrant.
Thank you. It's nice to work with some brighter colours after such a grim winter. I hope it will all work!
Beautiful background!! I love the idea of using a grid with different stitches! I’ll have to remember to do that!!💐💐Marnel🇨🇦
I love the effect too. I think the key is the same variegated thread - it adds texture and interest without dominating. Thanks for watching. 🤗
I adore this colour palette... I am just finishing off February then onto this.. 😁. Good to see your smiling face xx
Thanks Rae. Being in front of the camera is not something I particularly enjoy, but it does help people, I think. I'm glad you are enjoying this year's project. Your panels are lovely. Thanks for sharing them. X
Super color and love the seed stitches.
Thank you! 😊 I love seed stitch too.
I like the more wild background! I think it's going to be gorgeous. Thanks for sharing. ❤👍from Somerset
Glad you like it. I think it's going to be a good one. Fingers crossed it works.
I wonder if stamp blocks would work…this is really interesting so much brighter than the last two months. Spring is on its way. I have 12 cm of snow the last day, so no snowdrops, crocuses yet for me.
I think stamp blocks would be great. Give it a whirl and see what happens. It's nice to start seeing some vibrant colours after such a bleak winter. We've even had some sunshine here in the UK, which makes everything feel better. Your spring flowers will be along soon. 🌸🌷🪻
Love ❤
Thank you 😊
I am Canadian and we are still very much in the white snow stage ….
I love Canada so much. Perhaps those bright melt water colours that appear in the lakes could feature? Perhaps that hasn't started yet either though? 🤔 Nature will have some inspiration, I'm sure, and whatever you choose will be beautiful because you have made it by hand, and it's all you. Just have fun, choose colours you love and it will work. X
@@featherstitchhouse thank you! No real melting yet - warmed up lots in the last two days, but nights are still very cold (-11 c.). I appreciate your encouragement and supportive comments. Looking forward to doing more bits and pieces - that will most certainly include mountains in all the seasons 😍
Love the panel so far, curious about where it’s going.Have you tried inktense blocks for making the coloured background...less messy
I haven't. I don't own any, but I need to start branching out into other media. I've always been an experimenter, it's great to try new things and I love the tips I get in the comments. I shall investigate. Thanks for watching. 🤗
I’ve got some inktense blocks and I’m going to try them and maybe do a few blobs of alcohol inks as well, perhaps. Thanks for the tip.
Fabulous start x
Glad you like it. 😊
its great thank you
Thanks for watching. I'm glad you like it.
🤗🤗😊😊
Thanks for watching. 🤗
Lovely! When you first started with the ink I was a bit put off....dubious you might say...but it really turned out so nice .... loving it!
Me too! I was worried I was going to have to start again... again! I was really pleased with it in the end, though. This was an exercise in trusting the process. We got there in the end. Thanks for sticking with me. X
Loved this - so different and a real inspiration. I hate mess too and felt your pain having dirty fingers-I would have to have had rubber gloves on to do the inking stage! 🤦♀️😂
I really wish I'd used gloves. I didn't expect the ink to be quite so explosive! It's mostly gone now. I think it was worth making the mess. I do like the way it turned out. 😊
@@featherstitchhouse oh absolutely - sometimes you just have to put your brave pants on!
If you thread your needle before you cut the thread and knot the end you cut your colours will go the same way and the twist of the thread will be in the correct position.
That's such a great tip. Thank you. I'm usually very careful because it's hard when you are dividing stranded cotton, but the camera sometimes makes me lose my concentration. I will definitely do this when I'm using perle though. It's foolproof!
What a wonderful fun color. That they are based of crocuses is so delightful. White, yellow and purple blossoms in flowers and tree blossoms are common here in South Central Kansas USA.
Still catching up on February, looking forward to starting these bright playful colors.
Thanks so much. I think we're going to have lots of fun with this one. I do love spring flowers, so showcasing them this month will be a joy, I hope.
Thanks for watching.

Thanks so much. I am just trying to go with the flow a bit more these days. I am enjoying playing with new techniques. The mess washes off eventually. Thank you for your encouraging words 🤗
Where do you live
I am in Lincolnshire in the UK It's the 2nd largest county in Britain, but is extremely rural. There are no motorways, there are 50 miles of pretty stunning coastline and 80% of the land is farmed. It's a lovely, quiet place to live.
