The real question is why does Samsung purposely make cheaper phones have a bigger border than expensive ones, when they could easily make all phones have no border.
I'LL SAY IT 1000 TIMES! FOLDABLE PHONES WILL VANISH LIKE POP UP SELFIE CAMERAS! Man! Simply because it is a folding screen with moving parts. And it'll break after certain number of folds! Remember the popup selfie camera era when every other brand was like on fire to sell those in their phones? And everybody was likewise screaming at Apple for being un-innovative!
Really?! I kind think that I know what you’re talking about. Are you talking about those cameras that pop out of the top of a phone when someone takes a picture?!
Fold 3 owner. I rolled my eyes so many times during this. 1) Flip phones have nothing to do with these Folds. 2) I bet these guys are Apple users 3) The cover screen is now improved & battery too. 4) The initial problems were caused by reviewers to create clickbait (peeling off the protection, sticking things in the hinge). Apple users hope this category goes nowhere as it really shows Apple's lack of innovation and causes users to question why they're still with Apple. Fold 3 changed my phone life. I only care about 1 phone release each year now: the new Fold. No other phones can compete and do what this does.
Why Apple is too lazy on working on foldable? Because they are actually a software company than a hardware. Apple still depend on other companies on the hardware, it's means the innovation also depend on the hardware innovation made by those company. Foldable is technically about how to revolutionize the display technology which Apple still depend on other company. Unless Samsung and Apple wprking on the good deal on display manufacturer, the we can see foldable Apple. Long time ago we saw a big fight between those company on who copy who, who is more innovate tha other. Today, we see the truth. Which company is in consistent progress and which one is too lazy to innovate.
Wrong? What about technology like force touch and haptic feedback? These are hardware tech developed by Apple accompanied by good software implementation. Apple has tight control of software and hardware. Apple is not a company we know that simply follow trends.
@@damnfreakingsien yes, they are the innovation company before Jobs leave. Not following the trends? Hmmm....this is the reason some big company become to crumble like Nokia and BB.
@@adhisarakridowasono1019 a lot of things are still highly innovative, like those hardware that I mentioned above which were developed after jobs departure. Following trends doesn’t mean it’s necessarily a good thing. Android phones change their phone’s appearance drastically every year, but is that a good thing? No, it raises R&D and production cost for the sake of aesthetics to try to sell more phones. Apple usually only change hardware appearance primarily for practical reasons.innovation also happens on the inside.
@@damnfreakingsien tech is so dynamic and fluid, once you move slower than the competitor, then you'll miss the train. We can't say that Nokia having bad product, they only too lazy to follow the market. R&D is the most important on tech company, more to industry that has a very vast competition like smartphone. @@adhisarakridowasono1019 yeah. But Android phone makers R&D focuses more on flashy features, while apple’s R&D focus on things that actually matter (think Center stage, Face ID, ARM). Why do we need to change phones so frequently?
Yes! thats why I got the ZFlip 3 rather than going with my usual iPhone pro. I wanted something different and nostalgic, thats exactly what I got, the flip reminds me of the good old days when I had my Motorola Razor V3 in high school. I remember feeling like the coolest kid in the school I was the only one that had one so the flip gets that same kind of attention and I love it! Yes the value isn't great for the money, the battery is bad but even a year later I still get a kick out of it.

The real reason Samsung keeps making foldable phones is so that the technology gets good enough so that one day they can supply them to Apple and make mad bank off of them.
Not really! They make them to say to Apple. Look what we are doing at our company. You’re still doing the same thing. So since we are popular with foldable phones, you would have to play catch up
It’s just unnecessarily complicated for the gimmicky nature. Why do we need a foldable phone? We don’t. This is just screen manufacturers pushing the limits for clout.
After the demise of the Blackberry, for which I was a decades long user, I have been trying to decide what is next for me. I love the idea of a flip phone, but costs and other downsides have stopped me from making a purchase. As I am retired on a fixed income, price is a big factor. For now, I will continue on with my basic Motorola flip phone which I only use for texting and calls, but I am growing tired of its overall lack of capabilities. Still, I cannot afford buy something that has not been time-tested. I will continue to research the evolution of flip phones. I truly enjoyed your analysis.
The Z Flip is a really cool phone, and I've seen a lot of reviews that it's great in real world usage. What I would really love is for Google to do a flip phone, as I love their camera system.
I have a fold 3. Its much better then my samsung s9 phone. I love my fold! It has a bigger screen, pretty comfortable feel, the s pen is nice, and some other things that I like. Pretty cool phone 🤘
I guess it a matter of taste, but it seems to me that the fold of this flip phone would be cumbersome to the quality of the screen. But hey, to each their own.
You forgot to mention that foldables need to be durable because the foldable glass will not last like what happened to the zfold of utuber Michael Fisher after 8 months of continued use. Its that expensive so I expect it to last for 5 years without having it repaired just by constant use
I have both the Z Fold 3 and an IPhone 13 Pro Max, I just took my SIM card out of the Fold 3 and put it back in my iPhone. The Fold 3 is neat to use a few times but I don’t think it’s going to dominate the market until the foldables can weigh and be as thin as the candy bar style phones now with the same amount of battery endurance.
I worked in a phone store bear in Jamaica where I’m from and we got a few samsung flip and zfold 3 and zfold 4 phones and their currently gathering dust lol all iPhones are selling out even the old ones like 7 and 8s ! I’ve yet to se anyone walking round with a foldable
Personally I'm not interested in a foldable phone for a few reasons... thickness, weight, and screen crease. It's double the thickness (while folded) than my S22 Ultra. I'm not quite sure where people get this idea that a foldable fits better in their pocket. The S22 Ultra fits just fine, while a thicker (foldable) phone bulges. Not to mention the weight difference in the Zfold 4 at 9.28oz while my S22 Ultra is 8.08oz. Oh and who wants a crease in the display? Lol. Yeah a lot of negatives for a foldable device here. I don't mind if they're here to stay, as long as they don't replace what I already like in a phone.
Z fold 3 was incredible this past year for me. If I'm honest I would buy the huawei if it was available in the states cause it looks better but Samsung can make the fold better they're just being cheap when it comes to hardware
the Samsung Flip 3 is really cool but the camera is not that good yet, as soon as the camera on smartphones with the format is the same as on my Pixel 6 Pro, I'll get a flip phone, no matter the brand. (except Apple they will never see a dime from me)
Foldable phones will eventually take over the Hershey bar style. As millennials get older, they will want a bigger screen in order for their bad eyes to be able to read. But they will not want to carry a massive Hershey bar around. This is why foldables will be on the phone of the future.
These niche market toys are never going to dominate the market as the did when the design was first done 30 years ago. They have 3 fatal flaws 1. The plastic screen which isn't going to be made any better anytime soon. 2. The battery life is far to inferior to non folding phones. 3. The price is still far to high but it will be the easiest to overcome but not enough to overcome the other 2 fatal flaws.
I'm using the Z Flip first gen, and yes my 2 year old unit has suffered a small screen puncture due to a fingernail and the small external display has partially bleeded due to a fall... still using it though at this moment, in fact watching and commenting on this TH-cam video on it, too costly to repair which doesn't make sense plus I have learnt to live with the defects staring at me all the time haha... I am eyeing on the Z Flip 4 though, for a proper battery life...
flex screen I think it s superior to ultra fagile glass also inner screen is always protected, I dropped my fold so many times at this point a traditional slab will be unusable but fold still the same some minor scratches outside. Battery should be better but that can be improve every generation, still better than carry table + phone and two chargers
I have the Z Flip 3 and love it, I've had it for about a year now. The crease is easy to ignore and it takes up half the pocket real estate despite being having a big screen. I chose it because I wanted a big screen but hate big, bulky phones that barely fit in my pocket. In most metrics it's on par with other flagships.
I own this too, my Flip3 has horrible battery, the camera is not on par with the Galaxy S Series imo It also doesn't have DEX and has a few differences if you actually compare the two even in the settings etc. Even apps like Good Lock have options missing. I personally think this technology needs more time to mature. I don't abuse my phone or drop it. Yet my screen protector that came with it peeled off and Samsung knows it's an issue but has yet to really address it. I took mine to Samsung official repair store and they suggested that they cannot figure out why and as they were testing it said I should return the phone before the year ends of when I purchased it so I can get a new one then trade it in for a newer phone like S23 next year. I believe personally it does have a great profile and there are some things I could justify loosing but at £1000+ it's not worth it. Especially since you can get way more bang for your buck by just getting a low end £800 S Series phone. Can you please explain why you are okay with such a delicate phone. I thought I was okay but it fell apart less than a year in. If you search online you'll see I'm seriously not the only one too.
@@nomore-constipation Maybe it was because I upgraded from an S6 but the only thing I could really identity with here was the screen protector issue (mine came off in the middle), but I was able to have it replaced on the spot for $20 in a Samsung service centre (took 15 minutes). I do wish it had Dex and a better battery life but the battery life is enough to get me through an entire day. In terms of sturdiness, I've dropped it a bunch of times and have had zero issues. I don't have a case either, just a skin. Even getting sand in the hinge at the beach wasn't an issue. The main reason I got this phone is because I miss the Nexus 5 and how light / small it was, and for that the Flip 3 is doing fine. People complain about the hassle of opening it but once you get used to doing it one handed it's not a big deal, in my opinion.
I have nothing against Samsung… except their stupid commercials that keep playing with “OK Google”. That’s NOT OK. It keeps activating my smart speakers.
@@stormchaser0898 I partially disagree, I had a tablet which I hardly used and then I got a fold which I use very often. I think it's the portability factor that puts me off using a tablet because u can't simply take it everywhere with u because it's so big and the fold provides that. Like yes I liked using the tablet but it was too big for travel
That's not the reason apple hasn't released a foldable yet. The reason is because it is riskier than let's say airpods or the apple watch that required an iphone to be functional and most people already had an iPhone so it was a no brained for those people to get airpods or Iwatch. It's not that they were better than the likes of Samsung or Google...they just took advantage of the iPhone high market share.

I’d say it’s because they don’t see the point in making something that is half baked, the technology isn’t there yet for foldables to make any sense besides being a wow factor. Most consumers don’t like being lab rats for companies, Z Fold 1 and 2 were just basically expensive beta tests for consumers. I’m sure Apple’s market analysts researched that releasing a very flawed device series wouldn’t bode well for them

I've watched some tech reviewers mentioning that the flip design actually improve his wellbeing, it keeps his fomo away because he didn't get to see his phone screen while it's being shut closed. I think it could be one major point to switch to flip phone and yes I believe the flip and fold will be here for a longer time.
The real question is why does Samsung purposely make cheaper phones have a bigger border than expensive ones, when they could easily make all phones have no border.
Keyboard sliders were so satisfying to use
can we bring back sliding keyboards to smartphones like the droid?
Simple Samsung is an innovator
7:50 is the EXACT reason I love my ZFlip so much. The drama of it all 😂
I'LL SAY IT 1000 TIMES!
Does the outer display of the z flip offer anything an AOD doesn’t?
Samsung is mastermind company🔥
Fold 3 owner. I rolled my eyes so many times during this. 1) Flip phones have nothing to do with these Folds. 2) I bet these guys are Apple users 3) The cover screen is now improved & battery too. 4) The initial problems were caused by reviewers to create clickbait (peeling off the protection, sticking things in the hinge).
Apple users hope this category goes nowhere as it really shows Apple's lack of innovation and causes users to question why they're still with Apple.
Fold 3 changed my phone life. I only care about 1 phone release each year now: the new Fold. No other phones can compete and do what this does.
simply put, because it's not Apple
Samsung make phones fun again.
I just want to know how the folding screens are holding up.
Apple will make a foldable phone in 5 years and it will be considered "revolutionary".
with apple, maybe 10 years lol
Apple is just have a good job on branding and marketing, they aro so confident with the brand meanwhile the demograpics and tech is so dynamic. Look at Nokia's history, being the leader for decades and almost no competition, but then everything changes, they can't keep up with progress. We can't say that Nokia having bad product, they only too lazy to follow the market. R&D is the most important on tech company, more to industry that has a very vast competition like smartphone. People is getting bored someday.
@@adhisarakridowasono1019 yeah. But Android phone makers R&D focuses more on flashy features, while apple’s R&D focus on things that actually matter (think Center stage, Face ID, ARM).
If people are getting bored, then don’t buy a new phone. Simple. My old phone still works extremely well and it still looks modern compared to android phones of the same era. Why do we need to change phones so frequently?
I love this woman’s voice.
Yes! thats why I got the ZFlip 3 rather than going with my usual iPhone pro.
I have the flip 3 and i love it
This was more of a passionate plea to Apple by its Chief Spin Network to get in on the act... than a nod of acknowledgement to Samsung for pioneering ground breaking engineering!
Swipe-typing this on my Fold2 (front screen) which is still the most interesting thing IN EVERY ROOM I step in!!!
The real reason Samsung keeps making foldable phones is so that the technology gets good enough so that one day they can supply them to Apple and make mad bank off of them.
this is the comment I came for
Not really! They make them to say to Apple. Look what we are doing at our company. You’re still doing the same thing. So since we are popular with foldable phones, you would have to play catch up
Pay thousand of dollars and get device only, no charger, no handsfree in box... they're making money and deliver nothing to consumer.
Guess who started it?🤓
@@BourboelettahEven though they had stated it, Samsung and other android companies are copying it
It’s just unnecessarily complicated for the gimmicky nature. Why do we need a foldable phone? We don’t. This is just screen manufacturers pushing the limits for clout.
People said the same thing about smart phones when they first came out lol. "Why do we need to have a smartphone when we have computers back home?"
it's simple: if you don't use a tablet in your daily life, you will see a folding phone as pointless
Why Samsung Keeps Making Foldable Phones?
Ans: Because as a company they wanna "FOLD UP" ASAP... - LOL
Corny
The Z Flip is a really cool phone, and I've seen a lot of reviews that it's great in real world usage. What I would really love is for Google to do a flip phone, as I love their camera system.
I have a fold 3. Its much better then my samsung s9 phone. I love my fold! It has a bigger screen, pretty comfortable feel, the s pen is nice, and some other things that I like. Pretty cool phone 🤘
Why not make something different...I'm getting tired of the same o'l phone....2001 -2009 had so many DIFFERENT phones *sidekick I miss you..lol*
I simply don't see the appeal of a foldable phone, but I understand how trends are cyclical.
Love CNET ❤️
I'm sorry EXACTLY what "spin" did apple put on the apple watch?
I guess it a matter of taste, but it seems to me that the fold of this flip phone would be cumbersome to the quality of the screen. But hey, to each their own.
it's not a matter of taste; it's simple: if you don't use a tablet in your daily life, you will see a folding phone as pointless
Brother had one and they cool but just think standard style is better at this point..
Watching this on my flip 3 on flex mode🤓 wish it's specs were as high as the ultra😒
Still using Flat Phone at the moment and I'm not Regret not using Foldable
The Galaxy Fold series is the best for watching Snyder's cut, lol.
You forgot to mention that foldables need to be durable because the foldable glass will not last like what happened to the zfold of utuber Michael Fisher after 8 months of continued use. Its that expensive so I expect it to last for 5 years without having it repaired just by constant use
She speaks very well
I hope Samsung releases a tablet with the Fold size with more battery and a flagship processor.
Ios is for dumb people though.
I have a z flip 3 and I don't see why every phone isn't like this
More screen + less physical storage space = a win
Only iPhones 0:34 spelled the end of flip phones?
Android enters the room
"As time unfolds" *she then proceeds to do the opposite and folds her phone*
Haha
It's cool tech. If price drops to more affordable level, I'll definitely buy one.
I have the last Apple mini....and will be going to a foldable phone when it busts....portability in pocket is important to me...
Now I don’t want to hear nobody say that IPhones cost too much money, these foldable phones cost more! Especially the Samsung fold phones
if the z flip 4 is really that much better than the 3 it could end my iphone streak…
CNET sponsored by Apple.
Answer to your title..... Because people keep buying them lol... Overpriced and just stupid
Z fold 3 was incredible this past year for me. If I'm honest I would buy the huawei if it was available in the states cause it looks better but Samsung can make the fold better they're just being cheap when it comes to hardware
I would love a flip phone that have to would work well of course and hold up well
Frankly, I did rather they just flex their screen on disposables paper like computers, given the trend they are progressing towards.
the Samsung Flip 3 is really cool but the camera is not that good yet, as soon as the camera on smartphones with the format is the same as on my Pixel 6 Pro, I'll get a flip phone, no matter the brand. (except Apple they will never see a dime from me)
It's because they make sense! Need a cover of some kind.
Foldable phones will eventually take over the Hershey bar style. As millennials get older, they will want a bigger screen in order for their bad eyes to be able to read. But they will not want to carry a massive Hershey bar around. This is why foldables will be on the phone of the future.
That hijab..
I can see this video aging like fresh milk outside the window.
Battery should be better but that can be improve every generation, still better than carry table + phone and two chargers
it's simple: if you don't use a tablet in your daily life, you will see a folding phone as pointless
Still it dosent answer the question why foldable gonna be next big thing in smartphone and eill be top tier. Not understanding.
🇺🇸 my next phone will be the foldable phone! Samsung will improve their phones, as always.
Short answer. Because they’re awesome.
Oh boy - my Star tac phone. What a memory jog.
I don't care about folding I want a front/back screen
Xiaomi mix fold 2 is coming too
I want to troll the anchor but you know what she is just awesome in the job...al the best
I own this too, my Flip3 has horrible battery, the camera is not on par with the Galaxy S Series imo
It also doesn't have DEX and has a few differences if you actually compare the two even in the settings etc.
Those creases look unappealing
it's simple: if you don't use a tablet in your daily life, you will see a folding phone as pointless
@@stormchaser0898 you’re absolutely right
I get the Z flips just because it's cool AF tech! And the wow factor when I'm out. 😂
Foldable translucent tablets on WestWorld.
It's an amazing Technology but it still hasn't caught my eye.
it's simple: if you don't use a tablet in your daily life, you will see a folding phone as pointless
Wrong. They just don’t want to lose profits from their cheap made phones
@@myaccount__7269 you don't make sense. If they're making the phone you'd assume it wouldn't be cheaply made correct? They're not buying it from the lower/cheaper manufacturer Samsung...are they? They could price it at $3000, and sheepples like you will buy it. So it's still a win win for apple right?
I’d say it’s because they don’t see the point in making something that is half baked, the technology isn’t there yet for foldables to make any sense besides being a wow factor. Most consumers don’t like being lab rats for companies, Z Fold 1 and 2 were just basically expensive beta tests for consumers. I’m sure Apple’s market analysts researched that releasing a very flawed device series wouldn’t bode well for them
I want fold 4
Because they want new ways to make money?
Love my Fold 3
Apple may not release things because other companies do but the opposite is definitely true. When apple releases a foldable iphone is when foldables will become will become mainstream and all other phone makers will jump on the bandwagon. No bigger apple sheep than its competitors. And yes i do realize i just stated the obvious so no one needs to write a snarky comment about it. I just felt like talking.
Because the Z Flip is the most popular foldable in the world.
No new content
Just stale news, what we already know
it make them stand out compare to other
Because they’re cool.
I have a Zflip 3. No issues whatsoever. It’s a great phone.
I still use an iPhone 13 pro as my main phone though. Lmao.
If apple had a foldable….damn.
after owning the zfold 2 there is no reason whatsoever that could possibly convince me to purchase a non folding phone other than them simply not being for sale anymore. The candybar phone is dead and good riddance. Samsung is lightyears ahead in this,
Galaxy Fold is the only Android phone that’s tempted me away from iOS.
No sd card slot. Display that doesn't last. Battery life is garbage.
Female looking so decent, 👍
