    Amazing that you share your training details with us. Very informative, the workout in freezy temperatures added to the “work hard vibe” nicely, and the long trail run was just beautiful to watch. 🙌🏼
    Thank you so much for taking up my question.🙏 Watching people run, while running on the treadmill myself, works now quite well for me - so I am catching up on all the Ultra Runing YT Vlogs :-) I will also apply your tipp on the strong core and play around with speed and general posture on the treadmill.
    I wish you another amazing and consistent training week! 👍🏼 We root for you ⚡️💪🏼

    The idea of testing your navigation apps before race day is a great call. I had trouble with my watch navigation recently and wasn't sure how to fix it, while miles away from home.

    Nice week of training. Since I abhor the treadmill I did all of my runs outside this week. Not sure it was the smartest decision, but it was interesting running in 3-4" of snow in 10-20 degree weather. My hip flexors were much sorer than normal which I guess is expected with all the extra stabilization necessary due to the snow and ice.

    • @wplate
      @wplate  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I imagine you were lifting your feet out of the snow holes different than you normally run across the ground? That difference in mechanics could affect your hip flexors too.

    Yeah, good work on your training and running in all of the conditions last week, it was a little challenging! I need to check out the tree farm, it looked much prettier than I expected 😉 I think box/double stair step ups are so helpful. You definitely want your up leg to be pushing you up, with the quads and then really clenching the glute as you straighten up, and it'll help you propel uphills with more strength. Happy training!

    • @wplate
      @wplate  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The tree farm is awesome, but it isn’t mapped well and signage is mostly nonexistent. Feel free to borrow any of my GPX files! It is an active farm, though, and sometimes areas are closed or get logged and trails get moved and removed.

    Hi Wes, thank you for these videos! Your runs in the past were already very impressive so a work-out regime like this doesn't surprise me :) I live in the flattest part of the Netherlands and this August I will participate in the UTMB so the climbing meters will be interesting.. Luckily I have access to a treadmill so I can do some incline running. However, I don't know how to practice the downhill running.. Last year during my first 100K it caused me almost the finish-line. I was wondering if you had any tips for the amateur runners that live on the flats with minimal training equipment. Keep working and all the best with races this year!

    I’m starting to move from a mileage-based training plan to one that is time-based. I see that your training is organized based on time, so I’m curious: how do you plan your routes before your run? When I’m planning for a set amount of miles, I can plan a route accordingly, and be pretty confident that when I finish the route I’ll be pretty close to my goal distance. However, it seems like it could be tough to estimate how long it’ll take to run a given route, so you could under- or overestimate. Thanks! And this content is great btw, really interesting stuff.

      Other than that, they are generally comfortable. I haven't used them for many hours yet though. Cautiously optimistic.
      The Ultraventure 1 was my favorite. I didn't like the UV2, and the UV3 is too wide for me. I like the MTN Racer, but not for ultra distances.

      @@nextaidstation3095 The cutoff for Sedona Canyons 125 is really generous, making it different from most 100 milers. You can hike it, even go off course from an aid station and sleep in a bed, even do that more than once! Plus it is the more beautiful half of the 250 course, you should consider it!

    Very interesting as usual.
    Less a training question, but based on content of video, for next week.
    Why use your mobile for nav, and not say a Coros watch (or a garmin enduro ii)?
    Maybe I am wrong, but I would have thought even with navigation on a watch would easily outlast a phone.
    I don't often run in unknown places, but I find when I do I tend to click the nav on and off on my watch, unless I am in a maze. Admittedly, I have never done anything even remotely close to a 200miler.....

I've got a calcification in my right foot...and next week I start to cure It. But the doctor was very clear, I can't Run any distance for, maybe, 6/7 months... 😢😢😢 So I was thinking to do some yoga or Gym exercises while I cure my foot... 💪 Any advice for a beginners Like me? 😅😅 Hugs from Italy! 🇮🇹💪

      Oh no I'm so sorry to hear about this foot problem. Good that you're going to get it fixed but 6 or 7 months to recover? My friend, I'm so sorry. This will be a good chance to cross train and focus on what you can do. I think you're right, yoga and other strength and core work would be a good investment as you heal. It will be worth it for sure. Keep us in the loop with how it goes.
