My daughter is legally blind without her glasses or contacts and glasses. She still does everything quite well, but cannot see much without her glasses. Are you not educated in this?
William Burton But what about the 57 comments ending in racial slurs, death threats and comparisons to Hitler. The endless high caps abbreviations and awful grammar. Come on, play the game.
I like this guys voice! I can understand everything he says. He speaks clearly. Also, I am glad there are no extra distracting background sounds or music.
The Raven is phenomenal, and of this selection the Telltale Heart is my favorite. My very favorite Poe story, however, has to be Shortness of Breath. Absolutely hysterical story.
As a blind listener I am happy his reading is measured and with a good Cadense. Poe is my favorite author for his mind is how I feel about life. We all are in a world of chaos and cannot escape until we die. Literature is our only balm in human life.
I love this narration. The one edgar allan poe narrator I listen to over and over. Especially when going to sleep or relaxing on a sunny day near the ocean. Greatly appreciate, thankyou 😊🎉
I find it pretty stupid that people say stuff like "They should have chosen someone else to do this recording" When, in fact, Librivox gives EVERYONE the chance to try and submit their recordings. You can find more than enough people with recordings of Poe's, Lovecraft's or whatever you want with a simple, ridiculously easy search in Librivox. What, too lazy to go to another site? One that is practically /made/ for Public Domain audiobooks? Bottom line, if you don't like this 1. Don't listen to it and 2. Go to Librivox to find one you may enjoy. That's all there is to it.
To. Ryan: an educational note: E. A. Poe was an American, ergo, from America; born in the US of A, attended West Point, which is located in America. You have heard of that country, correct? How in Amontillado's good name do you think reader should have English accent? And to which English accent do you refer?
+Cesar Navarro The same reason black cats died when the supposed whether were hung or burned. Cats have denoted evil as solitary beings. They were what witches turned into. Horrible n sickening indeed. I believe he was extremely sick.
Tell tale heart was the first I’d read when I was 12 or 13... and I personally have a preference for it. Yet, I don’t entirely understand that on yet. I will admit it’s interesting though.
@@jillfanning749 ** I know this is an ancient comment but just wanted to add (Tho' I know Poe claimed to dislike allegory it seems pretty obvious TCOA is one. About a man who turns the table on life itself by chaining it within the wall of a catacomb. Fortunato (fortune, guilty of perpetuating a countless ills) is unwittingly taken, while dressed as a jester, led into the deepest bowels of the earth where he is suddenly chained to a wall (after being stupefied by wine, and being led on by the promise of a particularly sublime Amontialldo). The bricks represent the months and years of one's life, one laid on top of the other, until the last one is placed and the world simply moves on as if you never were, your bones alone in the dark for all time. Thank you for all the time and effort to do this. Really enjoyed it, great job. I don't recall reading The Raven before than never realized the Raven was named Nevermore. Than you again.
Angry Gen X'er: A good long while ago, I listened to an LP at my local library of Poe's tales, enacted by Vincent Price, The Cask of Amontillado being one of the stories, and do feel Price's voice is an acquired taste, that recording was, even today, at the very top of the list.
They are stories about murder and justification. Really? Yea, I understand some things about losing good values. Art has become quite a wrecking ball for a long time,---and here we are.
I'm enjoying this. Yes, the narrator does sort of sound like the joker, but be fair, the joker would give this tale the darkness it deserves. i believe the narrator made a great effort to give us a dark tale. he succeeded.
This is a much better recording from LibriVox than all the others I have heard so far! This one closely imitates the one I had heard ages ago, and I'm not able to find it again. But anyway, good attempt. :) Thanks.
If you give it for free - people are twice as likely to criticize. Odd, isn't it? I love this guy: he sounds so NORMAL yet is so WEIRD. Your next-door neighbor -- watch out if you've an Evil Eye!
I see more comments bitching about people criticizing this narrator than I see comments that ARE critical of him. A few people said he sounds like The Joker (I wouldn’t call that criticism personally just an observation) and many many comments saying they love his voice and he did a great job. What made you post this in the first place? I saw two or three other comments similar to this, chastising people for complaining about free content or telling them to read it themselves. Just curious why since I can’t locate many genuine criticisms
What a wonderful reminder of the days when my step father would read Poe, Whitman, etc. very nice. Thank you very kindly and do not worry about the negative feedback. Not everyone enjoys this being to read to them for over 50 years.😊

I don't think ANY type of voice could make the first story anything less than creepy as hell. The whole thing creeps me out now just like it did when I read it.

With the thousands + of Poe fans, no one has come forward to continue the decades of ritual and deserved respect of leaving brandy and roses at the Master's Tomb. For myself, I live many thousands of miles away but surely there are several within reasonable distance to demonstrate the annual pilgrimage of honor. BTW: Amontillado remains available for those devotees so inclined. Quite delicious, may I add.

Joyce Joseph What a sweet, nice comment ;)
legally blind but uploads art videos? seems legit.

Joyce Joseph you said being you was speaking of yourself.
I like his presentation. He has a pleasing voice and reads clearly and well spoken. Well done!
It is nice but I just don't think it's right for Poes darker works.
You people know that if you don't like the guys voice so much, you can always read it yourself, right?
Thank you
Lol!!!
I quite like his voice.
William Burton But what about the 57 comments ending in racial slurs, death threats and comparisons to Hitler. The endless high caps abbreviations and awful grammar. Come on, play the game.
William Burton i think they dont like it because the wanted to hear edgars deep voice :)
The only voice that matches the Poe that settled in my head.
The Poe in my head could kill the Poe in your head.
thank god its not AI which sounds like Joe Biden today..

This narrator is bad ass his voice is soothing and my sister falls asleep within four minutes of hearing the tale tell heart.

Why would you stab a cat in the eye with a pen Mr. Poe?!
Because.
Ha-ha. Of course you do! You wrote it! And damn good tale it is.

It is storming here and thundering. Perfect for Poe
I love this
Amazing reading, full of imagery, Thank you for reading, thank you Edgar Allan Poe for brilliant creation!!
The creepiness stems from the disturbing behaviour displayed by the (usually) narrator/protagonist.
"The Cask of Amontillado" is one of my favourites.
Jeremiah Burns agreed. One of mine as well .
