As far as writers of his category, him, Lovecraft and King are probably my favourites so far. I'd like to read The Yellow King eventually.

I've always found it odd that there's never been a biopic movie about Poe. Surely one of the most intriguing and enigmatic figures in American literature is a worthy subject to explore on film.

God, I wish someone would do this. Make it as compelling as that Chaplin movie with Robert Downey Jr. I’d love a two hour movie on his life!

Edgar Allan Poe is one of the most complex figures in American literature, and his life has been extensively documented in various biographies. Given the depth and intricacy of his character, attempting to capture his essence in a biopic movie presents significant challenges and risks, potentially leading to unsatisfactory or even catastrophic results.

@@salvatoremacri3343 You make a good argument and I have to agree with you. I hadn't fully considered the challenges of producing a Poe biopic that would do him justice. Thanks for your thoughtful reply.

the acting! OMG. The best Poe interpretation I've seen. I know there are not so many, but the very few representations out there are awful and totally unfair to the greatness and the "realness", the humanity, misery and perverse genius of Poe. This actor seems to have fully understood him

As an avid admirer of Edgar Poe, since childhood (let's leave Mr. Alan aside), I'm astonished how good, actually, this documentary is. I'm well four years past writers age at the time of he's demise. What I anticipated was another boring iteration of known facts about a brilliant author. You've surprised me! It's actually worth watching.

While I appreciate your point of view... Poe, for all his problems with his foster-father, never dropped the Allan name.

Well I must say that was such a bloody good program. Some one gave up on it because of the adverts. What adverts. They were so brief and you missed out on such an interesting program.. I didn’t know anything about Poe. I always thought he was English. Very talented and yet lived a lot of his life in poverty. A great writer and he was only 40 when he died. Very good.RIP Poe. ❤

This is absurd. They had an English actor play the part of Poe who is over 50 years old while Edgar Allan Poe died at the age of 39. In addition, the actor is English and not American, and his accent can be heard so much. With such a production was it so difficult to get an American actor ten years younger?
