    thats an awesome piece of kit , i went up scotland for a fortnight and came back 9 months later in something smaller than that , happy days , being off the ground is totally cleaner than my ultra lightweight backpacking tent on the ground

    Nice to see this cool rig up. I goo off-road most of my camping, dirtbike riding. I designed an aluminum tube rack for the bed of my truck, just a little higher than the cab. Always great to collect more information. Safe travels, have fun

    Great video! I have been having a hard time figuring out how these things fold and unfold. Its an interesting concept, but I think I will stick with an airbed in the back of the vehicle. Quicker, simpler, and more stable in weather.

  • @mikehubbard5493
    @mikehubbard5493 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    It's pricey ,but I can really see the great benefits of that tent. When you pack up-everything goes with you. When your sleeping at least you can know that no snakes will get you up there on the roof, and the bears, and other wildlife will not have such an easy access. and you get into places that a trailer will not go.

    Great video! Thank you! One question. Does the ladder provide support for the fold out section? Or is it fully supported by the internal frame. Just wondering what kind of torque is applied to the far side when a 240 lbs person climbs thru the door. Any chance the upward torque on the roof rack would damage the car? I'm looking at a much lighter system on an after market rack on a Ford Fusion.

    • @OutdoorsAllie
      @OutdoorsAllie  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The ladder does provide support. I don't think the upward torque would mess with the structure of the door frame, but ours did end up leaking a bit in really heavy rain.

    The tent frame seems rugged enough, but I'm not sure it's a very good idea for that much weight to be on the top of the vehicle and the door frames.The price alone puts it out of my range. Interesting idea though.

    Awesome information. I was wondering if there was any room inside when folded up for let's say a couple of pillows blankets or sleeping bags? Sometimes I think having that stuff in there can save on space elsewhere. Also I was wondering would it make any difference if the tent was left attached to the truck for a season or would that degrade anything?

    • @OutdoorsAllie
      @OutdoorsAllie  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I left mine attached for years. No issues! I think you could get away with leaving some sleeping bags in there but that's probably it.

    Does that ladder act as a support pole for the tent floor in the unfolded, open position? Or, is the hinge, in the open position, connecting the portion of the floor over the vehicle to the portion connected to the ladder, strong enough to handle whatever weight from people in the tent are on the portion of the floor connected to the ladder? If that made any sense...

    • @OutdoorsAllie
      @OutdoorsAllie  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the ladder acts as a support pole.

    • @badgerpa9
      @badgerpa9 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jake the blaze orange is used for safety in hunting. Most know enough not to ever shoot if they see anything orange. Since a turkey can have blue and red look to it like a Pepsi can those colors are not safe in hunting areas. If you are camping during a hunting season even if you do not hunt having the orange is a good safety item. You could be in the tent just to grab something or nap in the middle of the day.

  • @LoboLooq
    @LoboLooq 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Not sure if you’ll even see this, but I also have an F150 and everyone was suggesting against the Thule rack style that clips on the doors like yours. Since you’ve likely had this a while, has the roof rack ever given you any problems or caused any damage to the truck? I’d like to still run this style with a tent too

      It probably WOULD last -- people use these in all kinds of weather and all seasons/all year long -- wind, rain, snow.
      Tepui is a top-quality brand, and secondly this is their "ruggedized" model, not the typical/average rooftop tent. BIG difference.

And at 4000 dollars I will stick to a nice used trailer that I can disconnect and go somewhere! Just my opinion

    Did you do theater? You have all of the facial and hand gestures down perfect. Adorable review, the first one I actually made it through on these tents. It is 20 months after your review do you still like it? I am new to seeing your channel so if you have done another video sorry. Liked, subscribed and will go through more of your videos. I hope you 2 are having fun someplace and be safe.

      Thank you! No theater for me LOL. Yes, we used it alot last summer and it performed flawlessly. Plan on using it this summer again!

    So if your out and its raining all day you get to lay in there. Plus you have to fold it back up if you want to go somewhere? I like my class A and i pull a jeep behind it.

      Class A would defiantly be nice!

    Is this weight/weight of 2 people inside ok for the roof of the truck? Seems like the metal platform is heavy lol. I thought these tents were designed for the beds of trucks

      I would rather have it in the bed, but we used it this way for 2 years and never had an issue.

    Love the concept. I enjoy sleeping up high. Biggest no go is no big dog access. Can't imagine making the boys sleep outside in a crate.

    • @OutdoorsAllie
      @OutdoorsAllie  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ya, getting a dog up there wouldn't be ideal.

      I built a ramp for my dogs. It breaks down for travel, and makes a convenient clutter free layer in the vehicle for the dogs to rest on.

    I keep my dog in his crate under my tent in my bed of my truck while sleeping. Truck bed offers more warning time and concealment for any unwanted animal intruders...just a thought. My tent is mounted on a rack, on my truck bed, that’s even with the truck roof line when traveling.

    How did you get it up on the roof? they are so heavy I can't imagine being able to get it on top of the roof! How did you decide on going roof vs mounting over the bed?

    • @OutdoorsAllie
      @OutdoorsAllie  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Its heavy, takes 2 people for sure. If i had to go back i would mount it on the bed next time. Thanks for watching!

    Looks to be a really well made tent. How does it handle high winds, any issue with the overhang area in the wind?

    • @OutdoorsAllie
      @OutdoorsAllie  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No issue other than a little noisy sometimes, but think that is the roof rack. It seems to start making a whistle noise around 70 mph

    • @daleofmesa1
      @daleofmesa1 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was questioning when it is set up. Does the wind ever get under the overhang and kind of rock the truck?

      I was using this last week in 50 mph winds and it held up fine. A little wind flap but nothing crazy.

    Can you rotate that around so that the ladder comes down in the bed of the truck?

  • @HuyFishin

    I have the same aeroblade roof rack, correct me if I'm wrong but I Don't think that rack and footpack is made for that much weight.
