I know so many completionists who were tempted to finish their quest log before doing the suicide mission and losing their whole crew in their first ME2 run, this was a pleasant change of pace.
It’s a beautiful thing seeing others care so much about the characters as yourself. To know your not the only one who gets emotional over it. You do a really great job. Wonderful job.
how you were freaking out when someone was close to dieing is exactly how i was when you hovered over Miranda during the Biotic Specialist... she is literally the only one (even loyal) to fail that part.
I LOVE the Suicide Mission. Not only you need to upgrade the ship, but you need to KNOW what areas your crew are good at to send the right specialists to the right tasks. AKA, for you to do well, you need to CARE about the world and it's characters. It's a awesome way to blend gameplay and storytelling.
"Who would choose Morinth over Samara?" The terminally contrarianistic. Also it's a good idea to accept her at least once (you can even reload to before that decision) so that you can unlock her bonus power that you can give Shepard, which is not only WAY better than Samara's, it's arguably the best bonus power in the game!
In my first play of ME2 Jack died. I didn't have enough paragon or renegade points for the dialogue when jack and miranda fight so i kept mirands loyalty and lost Jacks. So she perished on the last section as part of the defence group.
Same here, after their fight I couldn't convince her, during the suicide mission I sent her back to the ship with the crew since I thought it be safer, but she got killed.
Brilliant, awesome. It was my first time watching someone play an entire game and I loved the experience. Dang I think I might be hooked now! I love the extra bit at the end of you looking at the chart and reacting to how it could've gone wrong so easily. Congrats on getting 100% at the "final exam"! ;)
I never lost somebody in my first suicide mission and since then I always use the exact same teams. But that first time was nerve-wracking.i never bought the med bay upgrade and was sure somebody was gonna die as a result. After the initial flight though I was mostly sure of my choices. The only one I was unsure of was sending Mordin to the Normandy. Luckily it always works out.
Suprisingly enough, there isn't any Praetorians thrown at you in collector base. The entire game has like two of them: first one you fight in Horizon and next one ambushes you while you're onboard the collector ship. While going trough this the first time, I was worried when will the Praetorian appear to ruin the day.
@@Ruosteinenknight My god if there was a Praetorian I would have screamed. Especially when I was playing on Hardcore. I am playing through again on Insanity and Horizon and the Collector ship damn near made me have a meltdown. But I got through eventually.
I'm always really surprised by people who lost a bunch of teammates inside the base. I understand not getting all the upgrades, but who DOESN'T pick Tali and Garrus and "humanity's strongest biotic" as the specialists?
1:28:18 , regarding the numbers, there is an equation to calculate how many people die from holding the line in the last part. if the average score of the people holding the line is 2 or up no one dies while holding the line. Usually this is is easy to pass if you have done all loyalty missions. But it is generally a good idea to keep strong team-members behind (Garrus, Grunt, Zaed ) since these have a score of 3 if not loyal or 4 if loyal meaning they can lift up the average score of the team. Note that even if someone is not loyal they can still survive as long as the people holding the line have 2 or up average. It can also work in a negative way, for example, if you take Grunt and Garrus with you against the reaper and send zaed back with the crew, the people left holding the line will have an average less than 2, meaning one person will die even if they are all loyal. In my first playthrough only jack died since she wasn't loyal and sent her with the crew back to the ship since I thought that she would be safer.
Mordin's everyone's first choice as crew escort, but I think I used Jacob my first time too. He's reliable and just gets his orders done, the kinda guy who'd gladly take the less glamorous job
I legit got really worried when it got to the biotic walk and knowing what would happen if she had picked Miranda. Glad you made the right choice, lol. /thumbs up
Congrats on surviving the suicide mission! Keeping everyone alive on your first playthrough is pretty impressive. I lost Jack and Mordin due to Jack and Samara not being loyal on my first run
Congrats commander. I always look forward to your uploads. I've been a fan of this game way before the fist was out, because of KotOR. It still gives me goosebumps.

You are the first person I’ve ever seen to also romance Thane, I appreciate you so much for that decision! I love his romance truly. Great job on the mission as well
"I don't get to see it!" Yeah thank fox news for that. They freaked out when the me1 came out. Lied, said it was basically a sex simulator game. I imagine EA reigned Bioware in on it in me2.
I actually didn't know how in depth the wikia page goes into that chart. Or that the hold the line ending had a defence score. Still remember losing Thane and Legion on my first playthrough in 2011, nobody told me how unforgiving the suicide mission was!
Congrats on everyone surviving! All your instincts were correct so I think your chat just helped you not second guess them. I got super lucky the first suicide mission in making the correct choices- I had no idea until reading up online after that people could permanently die. Or die before without upgrades! Excited to see you tackle ME3!
The first time I saw the final shot of the reapers in the window I screamed in my chair. I think the wait for ME3 was probably the hardest wait in my life.
I still remember taking Miranda and Thane to the end fight on my first play through solely because they were on the CD cover and it didn't disappoint me. (Also, it was Veteran difficulty so Miranda casted me 5 medigels)
You know....I am very grateful that you managed to get everyone to survive the suicide mission. Plus, I wanted to tell you how I was making my decisions mostly. Well...I did differently with my two Paragon characters in my OG Playthroughs. Yes. I made a Paragon Male and a Paragon Female Shepard. With some decisions differently during the suicide mission. For my Male, as Tech Specialist, I have choosen Kasumi. Miranda as the Second Team Leader through the first rush. At the second rush, I choosen Jack as the Biotic Specialist, Jacob as the Second Team Leader and sent Mordin back to escort the crew. For the final push, I took Kasumi and Zaeed and decided to leave the Collector Base intact, since not many Paragon Shepards done it...at least I haven't seen much Renegade Ending videos with Paragon Shepards. For my Female, Tech Specialist was Legion, Jacob as the Second Team Leader in the first rush. At the second rush, Samara as the Biotic Specialist, Miranda as the Second Team Leader and sent Mordin back as well to escort the Crew. Took Miranda and Jacob in the final push and decided to destroy the Collector Base. And sidenote: Both of my Shepards choosen the middle line to end the conversation with the Illusive Man. :)
Miranda is actually protected for most of the Suicide Mission. (I guess because she's always the one talking in the cutscenes?) She doesn't die from any of the ship upgrades, you can't assign her as the tech, if she's in the squad with the biotic it will always be the other squadmate that dies, if she's the second fireteam leader she survives even if she's not loyal, and finally you can't have her escort the crew. The only way she can die is if you take her to the boss and she's non loyal, or if you leave her with the hold the line party and the math works out to make her die, and she has relatively high priority for the latter so her dying would probably mean that many others have died already.
This is definitely the best game I’ve ever played. The more you explore and upgrade the better your final experience will be. I played it on insanity, definitely one of the hardest things I’ve accomplished
complete each characters personal side mission and also ask them what improvement they have to help improve the ship for the omega relay mission or otherwise all characters whose side mission you didn't do will most likely die. also to point out if you don't chase after them as soon as possible half the crew will die, including Abbey from engineering leaving Ken devastated.
On my first playthrough, Legion and Miranda died, but that's it. Maleshep who romanced tali and I didn't realize how badly legion dying screwed stuff up in ME3 until I played it lol
Oh man, I still remember my first ever playthrough. I was like 10 years old and just didn't understand games that well. Didn't buy all the upgrades, didn't finish all the loyalty missions, basically did most of the bad things I could have done. Literally all of my favourite crewmates (well, all of them are my favourite but you know what I mean🤣) died. Tali, Garrus, Grunt. Never to be seen again. I was so devastated I legit played through the entire game again, this time with the help of the internet to make sure nobody died (and before anyone says I should have gone on to ME3 with my bad decisions, I was 10. Ain't no way in hell I was playing the next game without my buddies). But yeah, My favourite game in one of my favourite game series. Played through it 3 times so far, and every time I cry like a bitch during certain scenes and when the credits roll in. Can't wait to see you go through the Arrival DLC and more importantly, the end to this beautiful trilogy.
Just completed this on the Legendary edition and for the first time I did everything perfectly. All 12 Squad members survived, and I managed to save the entire Normandy Crew. I'm quite content with myself. lol I've always wanted to try again since I first played through 10 years ago, but until now, getting back into the series was intimidating because there's just so much. I saved my squad but lost the Normandy crew the first time.
If you bring Miranda (and possibly Jacob as well) to that final confrontation, when you turn down the Illusive Man's proposition he'll order her to execute you. If you got her loyalty, she'll say something like "consider this my resignation" before disconnecting the call.
Love it when you role play and get angry! Laughed so hard when Strawberry was like “Miranda! Leave Joker alone!” Of course Miranda coming in with a hot take 🙄 yeah Miranda we get it everyone’s been kidnapped maybe don’t yell at the one organic survivor?
I always make sure all side quests are complete before the crew gets abducted, and jump through the Omega 4 Relay immediately. If you wait, you lose people... At least from my experiences. 🤷♂️
On my very first playthrough, the only one I lost was Jack, and that was because I was romancing Miranda at the time, and I didn't have the Paragon points to keep both happy.
dude I cannot believe I had so many casualties in my first playthrough hahahaha jack, zaeed and mordin perished, I wasn't able to rescue the rest of the crew only the rest of my companions survived and doctor
Arrival has some pretty tough decisions in store for Sheppard. About the deaths: there are many youtube videos showing squadmate deaths, but the most important decisions are the ship upgrades and the loyalty missions, I lost Garrus during the swarm gauntlet. I always thought that picking Samara as the shield generator was the cause, that her shield failed at the last moment. You proved me wrong. Now I'm confused.
I don't remember all the choices I made on my first playthrough, but I fucked up and lost three people. I got the game at a second-hand game store after going there with the intent to get Dragon Age: Origins, because I'd played and enjoyed Dragon Age 2 already. Anyway, there was a two-for-one deal, but I'd only intended to get Origins, so I asked the Sales Assistant for recommendations and he'd literally handed me Mass Effect 2 before I finished the sentence, and that's not an exaggeration. But yeah, because I wasn't importing an ME1 save, I didn't start off with the bonus paragon points, and ended up a few points shy of the check to resolve the conflict between Miranda and Jack, so I went into the mission without Jack loyal. She died on The Long Walk, and Samara and Mordin both died holding the line. I then played the game all the way through again, but once again found myself just shy of the Miranda/Jack check. That time I lost Miranda's loyalty, and she died after helping me defeat the Human Reaper. The *third* time I played the game was with an imported save from Mass Effect 1, & I managed to keep everyone alive :')
To answer your early question, the only reason I chose Morinth over Samara was in my first playthrough. You can unlock her ability Dominate for your second playthrough. It's like the Tech ability Sabotage, but can be used on organic enemies with no armor.
I'm afraid to watch this because i'm afraid you gonna get people killed...! Well here goes nothing. Edit. Well you definitely did better than i did when it was my first time. I lost Jack, Kasumi and Zaeed. You know you can actually lose everyone and then at the end Joker escapes alone and explains the situation to illusive man.
On my first playthrough I thought the squadmember sent to escort the crew had to be strong individually since they'd have to fight alone. I sent Grunt. Turns out they only have to be loyal and I lost another character because Grunt wasn't there to bolster their numbers and I had Garrus and Miranda with me at the final battle.
First time I played this mission I lost Mordin & one other (don't remember who it was) immediately restarted the mission. The second time everyone survived. This is one of the best missions in gaming history. The view of all those reapers arriving in the Milky Way galaxy gave me goosebumps all over. Can't wait to see your ME3 streams
This last mission was mildly annoying on Insanity. I put Tali in the tubes and as you get closer to her burning her frenzied cries for help as horrifying to hear. She goes on about how she's burning to death, meanwhile Harbinger is destroying your shield in 1 hit. So worth it tho lol. I just started 3 this week, Insanity here we go!
I lost Grunt and Mordin on my original playthrough. I chose Miranda for the Biotic Shield part, since she tells you how she has powerful biotics thanks to genetic engineering and everything, and that was NOT the right choice! So grunt got taken away by the swarm. And Mordin just died with the defense force. Certainly never made those mistakes again though!!
I came SO close to choosing Miranda after her "theoretically anyone could do the biotic shield" comment. I ended up selecting Samara because I thought, hey, if anyone's going to die during this part, I'm sure she'd want to be the sacrifice. I have no idea how I got so lucky 😂 I would've been a mess if any of them died
@@MegMage Miranda is sort of right: any biotic can do it. It's just if said biotic is anyone else than Jack or Samara/Morinth, they run out of gas in final moments. There's also interesting part about "hold the line" mission at the end. Every squadmate has defense value assigned to them and outcome is determined by combined values of all squadmates. It's recommended you send Mordin or Tali to escort the crew, as their defense value is lowest (Grunt and Zaeed have the highest value), so they are first to die.
The right choices is the ones who’re 100% of what they are like in the first game like Tali, Kasumi and Legion are engineers which makes them the best tech experts while Jacob and Thane are sentinels like Kaiden in the first game and Mordin and Garrus are infiltrators and because they’re torn between engineering and biotic/combat they’re less intelligent than the engineers resulting with their deaths and Samara/Morinth and Jack are adepts which makes them the best biotic experts

@@-Seeker- kinda, it's a bit of a weird math thing, the whole team will have an overall score in which 2 is the maximum number, if they hqve that max number, they all survive, if the score is 1,5 then only 1 dies and 1 alone kills like half and zero everyone (idk if those are the exact number of deaths per score), loyalty missions give each member more points to reach a higher group score. But yeah Mordin adds less to the score than jacob but if you did every loyalty mission you should be fine
@@nicolasmouzakis650 I did everything and didn't send Mordin back with the crew and he ended up being my only death and I didn't know why. This was before you could get Zaeed and Kasumi to help with holding the line, so I expect its a lot easier to keep him alive now without sending him back.
Also, Miranda had a pretty cool dialogue with the Illusive man if you brought her along in the last led of the mission.
I always take her with me for that last mission precisely because of that dialogue. It leads in extremely well to her character developement in ME3
It’s so satisfying to see her tell off the Illusive Man.
She basically says "fuck off" in the most respectable way
Everytime I replay mass effect 2 the theme music of the suicide mission always reminds how of a masterpiece mass effect 2 is! The nostalgia, I'm about to finish mass effect 3 on the legendary edition tomorrow night. I get how you feel at the end. Me saving everyone in the suicide mission was so tense and gets me out of my chair, scary ain't it? Thats why this game is a masterpiece Meg!
Can't believe I've been sleeping on this channel! I love the genuine emotion and the fact that you got a hole-in-one on the suicide mission. Well-done. I'm anxiously awaiting/dreading how much you're going to cry in the next one.
23:36 Two of my favorite things in the world together in this, I can't
This is one of the best Mass Effect 2 playthroughs that I ever seen, because even if you have a little help (very little lol) you really didn't know what will be the consequences of your actions and tbh is very satisfying to see someone get the "perfect ending" in their first playthrough, I remember that I lost Legion, Mordin, Tali and Kasumi in my first time, anyways the only thing that I didn't like about your ending is that you didn't choose Legion to be in your squad but is not that bad LOL.
So, I know that you already past Tuchanka, and you already know this, but if you cry with ME2, then you're going to suffer and to be so happy at the same time with ME3, so yeah, good luck and I hope to catch up soon
Thank you so so much for this comment 😭❤️
I was scared for first time doing this suicide mission, I lost three of my crew in my game but I’m proud of someone who saved everyone in this game great job 👏
Oh no, who did you lose?
@@nicolasmouzakis650 I lost thane for hacking door, I lost zaeed for leading the rest of the crew then I lost Miranda for distract collectors while I was destroying their base
@@deadpooldestroyyoutubegaming yeah I lost kasumi , legion and garrus, so I just restarted the mission and killed thane and kasumi
the shania twain bit was the last thing i expected to see in a mass effect video lmao. took me right back to the 90s.
also shout out to whoever in your chat said "i always kinda feel bad for the bug dude" at the end of suicide mission. hilarious.
I know so many completionists who were tempted to finish their quest log before doing the suicide mission and losing their whole crew in their first ME2 run, this was a pleasant change of pace.
On the Collector attack: yes, Miranda is harsh. She is also your XO so her reaction is perfectly understandable: Pessley would have done the same :)
Great perspective :)
Weird thing is, if she's XO why she leave with Shepard? 😭
@@AlexS-oj8qf Yes this is kind of strange. Also why Tali goes to missions as head of engineering :)
You made it! This is hands down the best mission I've ever played! I had my stomach churning the whole time praying nobody died.
Well done. Not losing anyone. This game is amazing and really tugs on your heartstrings. I can't wait to see you tackle ME3
Thank you so much Rasmus :')
Let’s Go ME3. Can’t wait
But she can’t get any more help she’s gotta do that one on her own, that’s the real experience.
It’s a beautiful thing seeing others care so much about the characters as yourself. To know your not the only one who gets emotional over it. You do a really great job. Wonderful job.
Amazing your first play through and all party members survived 👏
Your reaction and emotional state at the end is why Mass Effect is the greatest trilogy video game in history
how you were freaking out when someone was close to dieing is exactly how i was when you hovered over Miranda during the Biotic Specialist... she is literally the only one (even loyal) to fail that part.
Even Jacob can do it? I always thought it was either samara or jack that had to do it
I LOVE the Suicide Mission. Not only you need to upgrade the ship, but you need to KNOW what areas your crew are good at to send the right specialists to the right tasks.
AKA, for you to do well, you need to CARE about the world and it's characters. It's a awesome way to blend gameplay and storytelling.
"Who would choose Morinth over Samara?"
The terminally contrarianistic.
Same
Brilliant, awesome.
I didnt knew that you can lose characters during this mission, but i still managed to save everyone (lost half the crew) on my first playthrough.
Joker: There's a lot of empty chairs in here."
Meg: Empty chairrrs at empty tables...
...I love you Meg.

She romanced Thane?.... uh oh, that'll be a fun future reaction to see
She broke up with garrus lmfao

Mordin's everyone's first choice as crew escort, but I think I used Jacob my first time too. He's reliable and just gets his orders done, the kinda guy who'd gladly take the less glamorous job
Exactly!
I legit got really worried when it got to the biotic walk and knowing what would happen if she had picked Miranda. Glad you made the right choice, lol. /thumbs up
Sometimes you miss really cool or important moments in cutscenes cause you're looking at the chat....
Reactions like yours to the suicide mission ending shows IMO why this is considered one of the best games of all time.
The ending was so amazing it made me feel extremely awestruck and a bit emotional from everything since the beginning to the dramatic end
Congrats on surviving the suicide mission! Keeping everyone alive on your first playthrough is pretty impressive. I lost Jack and Mordin due to Jack and Samara not being loyal on my first run
Thane romance is a bittersweet one, I don't know if you plan to pursue it in ME3 but it will be very emotional
Congrats commander. I always look forward to your uploads. I've been a fan of this game way before the fist was out, because of KotOR. It still gives me goosebumps.
I lost half the crew and 2-4 squad members (Jacob, Jack & a couple more) on my first playthrough. DEFINITELY made for a memorable playthrough :D
OH NOOOOOO
I can never unsee Thane getting impaled by 1x1 meter metal shard on approach
WHAT 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 I WOULD LEGIT BE TRAUMATIZED
2 died on my first playthru back in the xbox360 days. This game is so good. It's so nice to see someone play it and go thru the stress for the first time
You are the first person I’ve ever seen to also romance Thane, I appreciate you so much for that decision!
About your doubts: welcome to the everyday life of battlefield commanders :-)
It's really fun watching someone else go through it for the 1st time.
Stressful too lol.
The first time I saw the final shot of the reapers in the window I screamed in my chair. I think the wait for ME3 was probably the hardest wait in my life.
I enjoy the sight of humans on their knees :)
I can’t wait for you to start the third game !
I still remember taking Miranda and Thane to the end fight on my first play through solely because they were on the CD cover and it didn't disappoint me. (Also, it was Veteran difficulty so Miranda casted me 5 medigels)
I always send Grunt back to protect the crew - something about sending a literal WALL of muscle just makes me feel like they'll be safe
1:12:17
Remember what Tali said when you recruited her?
“If you’re taking down Cerberus, I’ll lend you a grenade”
The collector leader is indoctrinated for so long and when he’s finally free from control, his home is being destroyed and doesn’t even know why 😢
I would never judge your 10 year old self for that 😂 thank you so much for being here!
Hi love your vids can’t wait for mass effect 3 😃
YAY thank you so much! This series is sooooo good!
One of the best final sequences in gaming, in my opinion. It's not perfect, but it WORKS.
Dang, she drags Kelly every chance she gets. 😂 I love it
Just completed this on the Legendary edition and for the first time I did everything perfectly.
I had the exact customization for my BroSheps armor as yours including the visor (but for the mission I used the collector armor)
I loved this mission and Mass Effect series.
On to ME3, and to find out how ALL of your decisions so far play out. Good Luck Shepard Commander!
Emotional investment makes your vids much more interesting then most walk through...
Congrats on clearing the game with no casualties! Even saved the support cast. Not exactly an easy feat on the first playthrough!
Very true. My first play-through I lost Kasumi and Zaeed.
I always make sure all side quests are complete before the crew gets abducted, and jump through the Omega 4 Relay immediately. If you wait, you lose people... At least from my experiences. 🤷♂️
Remember, always put Jacob in the vents
When 9 year old me first played this mission all I had left was Garrus and Jacob.
On my very first playthrough, the only one I lost was Jack, and that was because I was romancing Miranda at the time, and I didn't have the Paragon points to keep both happy.
I was in the same boat but saved Jack. I just kept her out of critical stuff at the end. I took too long so i saved the Dr but lost my crew.
good lord I swear I was more worried by who you chose than you were lmao
1:09:24 It's a Mattock, a Turian marksman rifle. Probably my second favourite weapon in the Mass Effect trilogy, behind the Avenger assault rifle.
God, the music in this game is Star Wars tier.
dude I cannot believe I had so many casualties in my first playthrough hahahaha jack, zaeed and mordin perished, I wasn't able to rescue the rest of the crew only the rest of my companions survived and doctor
I didn’t lose anybody in my crew so I’m very happy! Oh except Jacob. He served well in the vents 😅
Arrival has some pretty tough decisions in store for Sheppard.
About the deaths: there are many youtube videos showing squadmate deaths, but the most important decisions are the ship upgrades and the loyalty missions,
I lost Garrus during the swarm gauntlet. I always thought that picking Samara as the shield generator was the cause, that her shield failed at the last moment. You proved me wrong. Now I'm confused.
Probably my favourite mission ever of any game.
Agree on this ...no game made me feel the emotions I've had with this game....It really Is a gem.
Your crew ain't dead but you better hurry up and get them! (You don't wanna know what happens if you wait to long.)
So many ghoosebumb for this ending omg i love it so much
To answer your early question, the only reason I chose Morinth over Samara was in my first playthrough.
20:48 "I love their relationship."
Oh it gets so much cooler and better too. ❤🔥❤🔥
No spoilers, please.
Prepare a huuuuuuuge box of tissues for the third part.
I lost Jack and I don’t even know how 😞
Edit: just saw your spreadsheet thing. Dammit. Knew I’d regret not upgrading the shields
@@MegMage YEAH! Thank God you chose right though!
I am commander Shepard and this is my favourite video game ending on the Citadel.
