i think i am in the same predicament as this rider and I think I may have solved my knee pain issue by raising the saddle height and widening my stance, I am a short rider. still tweaking around on the trainer, getting close. thanks for all the advice James. keep the videos coming francis. you guys are a blessing to the cycling community especially noobs like myself. thank you 🙏

James seems to really know his stuff, I've been having knee issues for months (had 3 bike fits) so seriously might have to ride all the way from newcastle to see him 🤕

I setup my bars angle first for comfort in drops then adjust hoods for comfort, then finish with stem length for reach

Bar selection has a massive influence on fit,glad you emphasised this!
I use the Shimano vibe gravel bar on the road,40 at hoods,46 at drops,extremely short reach and drop...just perfect.
Another incredibly informative bike fit tuesday on schedule as usual. After witnessing the James improv session I think he needs to do a parody of 2 live crew with the lyrics "Bar down hoods up thats the way we like to ...... Bike?"

Rob's knee... I think he's a got a tracking issue that needs work away from the bike, I suspect he's got an overdeveloped Vastus Lateralis (outer quad) that's pulling his leg outwards. Basically a muscle imbalance which is pretty common in cycling. You can see it in the video, either that or he's got some pelvic asymmetry thing going on. I'd recommend some gym time, foam roller work and stretching.

As usual with James, the truth may hurt as a riders 'idea's' are debunked. 40mm bars/certain shoe brands - it not be what you want to hear. Is that an IWC watch he is wearing?
I believe it is indeed an IWC Pilot Chronograph. The interesting thing is that I did not know that riveted strap came on anything other than the Big Pilot.
It does look quite like a Panerai, but there is no guard around the crown.
It’s a vintage Hamilton automatic chronometer - Panerai coming soon though 🤪

I haven't had a pinch flat in years. More air Francis much cheaper than those turbolitos. Ive got 3T ergos 44cm and i find the reach to be just right not extended. I went back to 44cm as i find climbing and descending more comfortable and secure over my 42s.

personally- Ive never had any issues with bike fit never had any injuries. I don't see the faf with bike fit- although admittedly some bikes fit better than others. Lance was "5"10 and rode a 58cm frame - and in that era he won the TDF 7 times alright juiced to gills. But that frame would be massive in this guys opinion. Its in his interest to be pinnickity about bike fit- its his income.

This is timely as I was having shoulder pain and another person suggested that I move my brake hoods towards myself and it worked but I also have a 3T stem..I will not switch that yet as I am must more comfortable position now..but something to think about in the future..cheers bye from 🇨🇦

Side Q: if, as James says, a shoe purchase starts with a foot measurement, how does one select a brand or model based on foot size (esp. width) without simply trying every pair on, i.e. not needing a foot measurement? Is there a fitting table for all models somewhere?
@@davidbrabyn1 draw around your foot on paper. Measure it length & width Go to the manufacturer website & compare. Dont go by size, go by cm. A 43 is different across brands.

David Brabyn I was a bit shocked he didn’t think highly of Fizik shoes. I’ve ridden with high end shoes from Giro, Shimano, and Fizik and they’re all equally great to me. Not exactly sure why he feels that way. Curious to know.

@@jamesdlinehan8494 yeah tubolito... I've pinched them before but generally much less punctures than butyl and latex, much lighter than both too, but as you say, more expensive.
The back catalogue is worth watching, there are some epic rides.
Thankfully a tv show I have not seen.
Are the tubolitoos working better for you? Fewer punctures? Just wondering, not many people are using them that I know.
same amount of punctures , but they feel significantly nicer to ride than butyl !

Great vid mate very informative. I've actually got ergonova pros (compact) and because you can't adjust the reach on 10sp record I've had to rotate the hood down too much to reach the brakes comfortably in the drops. Perhaps they are the wrong shape bars for people with smallish hands? Cheers
I've always found campag levers really strange to hold - but not an issue because my hands are big. Could well be the shape of the brake lever!
@@Cade_Media true, it's not an issue with my ultegra shifters with adjustment (likewise with sram), need to adjust again and angle the hoods back up as I spend more time on the hoods - unless try just swinging the whole bars up perhaps.

Newbie rider here and my wrists hurt when I'm on the bike. Any suggestions as to what I need to do? I'm in France, the home of the Tour but I'm not sure where to go for a bike fit (I'm in the middle of the South, la France profonde) and no chance of popping in to let James sort it out (if only)
Could be reach is too long or saddle too high, pitching you into the front of the bike?

How can you explain Romin Bardet's handlebar setup then? I.e. with the end of the bars flaring upwards. Personally I've tried it and I feel like my hands cradle into the drops instead of the drops being flat/horizontal.
He probably finds it comfy and is OK with the extra reach produced

Hell. To. The. No. Tubeless is trash on the road unless you're just minimizing rolling resistance. Until I see a tubeless tire seal when punctured my mind will remain this way.

What’s the issue with fiziks then, why does James dislike them so much
The cleat position on fiziks is relatively far forward. I wish I could move the cleats on my Fizik Aria R3 further back. I think this is a/the reason that James dislikes fiziks. I've been watching lots of "bike fit Tuesdays" the past week.
