Thank you for posting. I remember watching this when it came out and it was so powerful and so evocative of the injustices committed. I was at UVa when the research on the American Eugenics Movement and the sterilization in Virginia of the poor, the criminal, the marginal, and racial minorities was being done and it had a huge impact. I have been hoping to see it posted for over a decade now as I have referenced it many times over the year.

I worked at Lynchburg Colony which changed names throughout the years. When I started working there, it had been renamed Central Virginia Training center. (CVTC).A very dark history indeed! I used to have a copy of this video on VHS. It has disappeared since. I also have a copy of The Carrie Buck Story. A really good read.

This is absolutely fascinating, thank you for putting this together.
Would you be open to the idea of someone cleaning up the audio and maybe adding a score to it aaaand maybe have a showing here in town?

I just moved to Lynchburg this year. I can honestly say there is a certain heavy energy here in certain parts. This video is a sad part of the city's history. Things are starting to make sense, the more I learn about this region of the country. Still a beautiful place, though.

Yes! And. I one talks about anything. That place has to be haunted as hell and no one mentions anything about nothing. The only ghostly stuff you will find is some room at Randolph. However, people do keep to themselves there. It’s quiet and it’s really pretty. I’ll be moving back next year.

Don’t forget about the lobotomy that was performed there! That house is still standing. I think it’s on Court Street.

Thank you for posting this video. I remember watching it when I worked at the Central Virginia Training Center. Our teacher had it on VHS tape and we begged her to play it so she did and I will never forget. We need to pray for these people. We need the get on our knees and pray that God will heal our land.

I too worked there and they showed us this. It was so shocking cause Lynchburg did a great job covering up its shameful past. I went online looking for this for years and only found education websites who charged $70 for it. Smh . Lynchburg is known for the biggest Cristian academy in the world...nobody knows about this

Willyg Beats - My mother worked there all through the 1970’s. My sister worked there as well from 1974 until late 1980’s. I thought they just took care of the mentally ill. Had no idea they sterilized the residents

I wonder if some day - there will be a documentary film made about women killing their unborn babies for no reason other than that they are an "inconvenience' to them. I pray that the future generations will view that film with as much horror and disgust as this film is being viewed.

*The Perpetrator ignored, the Victim blamed and the Victim suffers consequences, while the Rapist is not seen as "defected" "not at fault".* (This stands out, a Red Flag, an obvious flaw to the very statement of purpose.)
The "Declaration of Independence" and the "Constitution" are simply ignores and any manner of a Created Story delivered through a venue of Media by an Individual with an title, such as an MD or PhD, "Doctor", is accepted as unquestionably correct, and without verification of their Education or Ethics.

This is profoundly enlightening. It all makes sense. I'm originally from Delaware however I now live here in Lynchburg Virginia and have been here for about 3 years. I know God and I always felt a very negative energy here and spoke of it to others. But now wow... I can simply say I have so much more understanding.

So were we not supposed to take care of people who threw their families away because of their disabilities, and were we supposed to do it for free? I got laid off after 15 years (December 2019) taking care of OTHER PEOPLE’S families because THEY were either too ashamed to keep them, didn’t want people to know they had a child with ID/DD or couldn’t afford to. Until you’ve worked in a place like this you have NO idea.

Not just health providers. Common People, Politicians, Writers, and Scientists. Many were supportive of the idea of sterilizing people deemed as lesser. Even the degenerates of Hollywood thought the idea was evil. Frankly it's scary as hell how your own neighbor or role model could be a horrible bigot willing to take away people's right to breed.

Indeed and it's the truth. People like to proclaim America is the greatest country in the world, without acknowledging it has the same evil elements that "lesser" countries have if not worse. America has collaborated with some of the most evil beings in modern history, but they'll never admit it.

The same mentality calling for Sterilization seem to be those today whom claim to be those whom determine that Abortion be Illegal.
My personal feelings on abortion is that it should not be a birth control alternative, however, that is my perspective and I do not have the right to force my opinion upon others, or their choice of freedom.
Awareness of health/wellness, birth control contraception, and availability of same would be an obvious standard requirement for Education.
To suppose there's an alternative to awareness is to suppose one would never discover the subject of Sexual intercourse.
Opinions are just that, facts are necessary for clarity.
