- In this video we look at the obscure history behind an old sign on a building in Lynchburg, Virginia -- a city filled with old signs. I photographed the Bell, Barker, and Jennings 1892 sign in Lynchburg, and later became curious who the three men were, and what business they were in.

This wasn't what I was looking for at all, but how very interesting! #historynerd Thank you for posting!
My father and I both worked for Barker-Jennings. My dad was in industrial sales and I worked in the packing room. This building was enormous… 5 floors packed with amazing products. My dad worked their when I was a child and I remember a little about the fire that caused the move to the Campbell Ave location. I left in 1980 to go to college, but still will always remember that place. Thanks for posting!
Oh how nice to hear from you. Thanks for the information!
That receipt you show caught my attention...it was dated exactly 60 years to the day before I was born !
Isn't that a wild coincidence!?
Interesting!
You always impress me with the amount of research you do on the old subjects you find. I'm guilty of thinking "that's a cool old building" and then taking some photos and pretty much dismissing it. So, thanks for all the "obscure history". I enjoyed hearing it. And I really love your images; great work!
Thanks Terry -- It keeps me out of trouble :-)
