Wow they are super gorgeous colours. Might have to add this to my wishlist. I loved hearing all the whoas, oooohs, wows, ohhhhs etc lol. Thanks for sharing your lovely gift from Brant. 😘💜
Hi Melissa, it's me, Carol. A few things... Brant did not tell me he was gifting the deck, I thought it was for himself, so I put the King of Cups on the pouch. But it seems to have worked out , that is how things go sometimes. Maybe I should say usually as intuition seems to be working very well with my choices for both pouch cards and extras and samples I give out as well.. When I first did the original paintings for this deck I started them in 1988-9 but worked and refined the paintings for some years after that adjusting colors to get the best results with reproduction. The two Suns are because I made two paintings for each of the major arcana, except I painted Temperance 5 times. I have been making decks for over 30 years, and have switched majors occasionally. There have been a number of changes in how I make cards as time has gone by. The latest is I now am getting my prints made on a much more sophisticated printing machine, totally amazing, and the image quality as well as the card stock is much improved over older decks. If you want to avoid cards eventually warping keep them put away when not using them and put a weight over them, like a big crystal is nice. Certain conditions of temperature and humidity are not nice to decks. If you are having trouble getting them in and out of the pouch you might just wrap them first in a small cloth, and slide that in, or put them in an envelope or baggie of some kind. That black Sun on the Fool card had it's origins in my Cosmo Meditations major arcana, It is zero, the void, the unmanifest, also it looks like an eclipse. That series of paintings is to me the truly psychedelic journey. I experienced the 60's full swing, was in my college days at the time, and was influenced by the kind of vision then, but did not follow the mainstream look of the more garish and extreme kind of forms and colors. What you are seeing in my Illuminated comes from my base as a landscape and figurative painter, and my visionary understanding of light, atmosphere and space. As you noticed with the Knight of Pentacles, dark will tend to come forward. That is a rule of landscape. The further away, the more light in the atmosphere. But of course there always are exceptions. I love to paint and have gone on and created several more variations and versions. You can find them on my web site, www.soul-guidance.com .
Wow, thank you so much for your thoughtful reply, Carol. Thank you so much for explaining some of the background of the deck. I didn't know you did the majors (especially Temperance) multiple times. That's really cool!
This deck is amazing. Reminds me of the Diamond Tarot but you’ve used all the psychedelic colors on the images rather than surrounding the images with vibrant color. I was a kid in the 1960s so this is a cool vibe for me.
I have this deck, also on the thicker card stock and adore it, especially the improved sharpness of the images. I too have had to do the management love language tests and training, must be an educational thing right? Mine comes out as a tie between gifts and time. Yep, I have to agree Brant is a pretty generous guy indeed! Enjoy your new deck lovely ☺️
Thank you so much, Simon! The love languages thing has TOTALLY infiltrated education--especially K-12 education--here in the US. I think just about every school I know has done some level of training on it as a way to help improve teacher-student relationships. It is interesting. A couple years ago, I noticed a student being very upset one day and offered her a hug 'cause I'm not a monster. But after that hug and interaction, I was that student's favorite teacher, whereas before I kind of felt this like low-key contempt from her. I was really puzzled by the whole thing and a little creeped out. Not too long after that, we had to do those love language inventories and I realized that she was SUPER high up on "physical touch." It was kind of an "aha!" moment for me. Once I figured that out, I was able to change the way I praised her...high fives, pats on the back, etc. And boy, did she ever work for me.
I have this deck, and I know what you mean about the bag. I keep my deck bound together with a verticle elastic hairband, then plop the whole deck into the bag, and slide it out the same way. (the cards don't then go all willy-nilly). Mine also have a different back design - light blue sky with white stars and spirals. Interesting that you got 2 Sun cards. I like the weepy one more than the pink-eye one. I didn't get 2 Suns but got 2 Worlds - one with horizontal rainbow stripes and the other with vertical rainbow bands. I've been wondering if you might be doing a video about Stuart Kaplan and his recent passing.
