Hello all! I'm Melissa Zupan. I've been blogging on all sorts of things relevant to Wicca since about 2008. I've recently been convinced to start making TH-cam content, but mostly just to have fun. I definitely don't see myself becoming a professional TH-camr anytime soon! If you like, you can read my blog at threehundredandsixtysix.wordpress.com.

A DIY Tin Haul from Make Playing Cards
มุมมอง 4983 ปีที่แล้ว
Make Playing Cards needs to throw me some gift certificates for all I promote their tins, right? LOL They're a fantastic product, and I'm well on my way to having a tin made up for all my "go to" decks. Let's take a look at what I've photoshopped up for myself this time.

Introducing the Miniature Golden Rider Tarot
มุมมอง 8423 ปีที่แล้ว
Did you know the Golden Rider Tarot had a miniature version? Well neither did I! It was only put out in Germany for a few years after 2005, not terribly long after AGM Muller Urania stopped printing the standard size edition. My personal hypothesis is that the miniature version was put out to help move along remaining copies of Miki Krefting's separately published guidebook. What do you think?
The Keishobou Tarot: The O.G. Marseille/Waite Hybrid
มุมมอง 8243 ปีที่แล้ว
This deck was first published in January 1973 by the Keishobou publishing company. Isao Nakai wrote the guide book with Masatoshi Yoshida providing a foreword, and Masakazu "Gaichi" Matsumura illustrated the deck with Ippei Ito as a consultant. It is unique not only for being one of the first Marseille/Waite hybrid decks, but also for being perhaps the first tarot deck published in Japan. If yo...

Deck Comparisons: Pamela Colman Smith's RWS Tarot Deck vs Smith-Waite Centennial

Both US Games's Centennial deck and their new Pamela Colman Smith's RWS Tarot deck are based off Stuart Kaplan's Roses and Lilies decks...but they couldn't look more different. Let's see them side by side.
First Impressions: Pamela Colman Smith's RWS Tarot Deck
มุมมอง 8K3 ปีที่แล้ว
US Games snuck this deck onto the market Thanksgiving Week 2020. It's based on a 1909 Roses and Lilies deck, but the colors have been desaturated. If you're a person who doesn't care for the bright yellows and blues of a traditional Pamela Colman Smith deck, this could be the RWS for you.

Y'all! Sarah from Water Child Tarot is one of the most considerate, kindest people I know, and she's one of the people in the tarot community that I look up to and admire. She'd recently acquired some Japanese tarot decks and thought I'd appreciate this one, so she sent it to me as a surprise. What a delight! Thank you so much, Sarah! Oh man...this has been a long time coming. I first ordered this deck in April. That was right about when shipping went wonky between Germany and the US, so I didn't get the deck until the start of August. So why is the video coming in in November? Honestly...I just had other videos I wanted to release first. Reall's Pam's Delight was a limited run of about 30 decks, but last I heard, she does p...

Tarot RDR by Iluminarte: The deck that LOOKS like Pamela Colman Smith RWS Tarot...but ISN'T.
Never heard about this one 😮 Saturated yellow on the backs make no sense with this deck though 🤔 Have been waiting for decades for a desaturated RWS, but this is just weird.
Very interesting comparisons! Thank you for this as I had no idea about all the different options for the RWS Tarot decks. I’ve only been into Tarot for about 4 years now and I’ve fallen in love with reading the cards. My deck is the RWS Radiant Tarot. I love the borderless pictures, the shine of the paper and the heavy card stock.
I have 2 copies, one set is still sealed so can’t say what edition it is, the open one has a reprint starting 45.
Both decks are based on the roses & lilies ('09 print), e.g. the dolphin the king of cups is not cropped, and the shoes in the 7 of pentacles being the same color. I find it a little annoying all those decks are reproductions, with no attempt to fix little defects, like * Color bleed on the High Priestess' robe. * Remove the undulating line in the Sun card, which is due to a crack in the plate. * The hand in the ace of cups, which starts as a left hand, and warps into a right hand.
For anyone interested there is currently an Authorized re-print of this deck currently funding on Indiegogo by the creators Tarot Collectibles. Their decks are amazing, and this is a very limited re-print approved by the original JK creator 😊
A few noted: * The undulating line in the sun card is not original art. I don't recall the source at the moment, but somebody dropped a tool on the plate, which caused a crack. Making a whole new plate was a lot of work, so they extended it into the undulating line. I wish it was photoshopped out. * Later editions have tighter borders, cutting out some details. E.g. half the fish on the left side of the king of cups is gone. * Later editions have some color problems as well, e.g. the shoes of the man in the seven of pentacles are of identical color in the 1909 edition, and different shades in later editions. * Generally, the 1909 is just higher quality - finer lines and better colors overall.
I miss you Melissa. I hope that all is well by you and yours!!!
They are racist af, this site doesn't even allow Indians to access it.
Great comparison! I just bought an unopened 1st edition of the JK Waite and am so excited to play with it! Your video was great- thank you!

Thank you sooooo much for this video… I just reviewed this deck on my channel and I have to say that I am very pleased with it… thank you for all the very good information you have given us in this video….but the way I will be subscribing to your channel…😊
What a great video…, I just reviewed the RWS by lo scarabeo on my channel and enjoyed your video very much… thank you for posting and I will keep on watching….😊
OMG! This video is so helpful. Thank you for posting it… I just reviewed this deck on my channel and I was a bit confused… I will keep watching and subscribe to your channel…😊
Very good in-depth review, thank you
The Smith-Waite Centennial is like the greenie Rider-Waite. LOL
Why are the deck sizes different? The US Games Centennial Edition looks bigger.
Because the US Games one uses a thicker cardstock. They’re totally different manufacturers, so they’re not going to use the same material.
Hello everyone! Has someone actually used this deck continuously? Is it lasting? I bought a deck from another printer but the edges have begun to damage/ruin after some shuffling… what a pity and a waste of money! Thanks 😊
It has been my experience that any paper deck used heavily will soon start wearing. I don’t use 1909 every day, but it is frequently in my rotation, and it is holding up very well so far.
I saw a price for the Golden Rider on eBay I couldn’t resist (I thought). I got it today and she’s baby! So thank you for making this video because when I didn’t see the pink circle on the back I was sad but….shes baby!!!! She’s so cute! I hope I can find a decent price regular size with the pink circle in the back ❤
Superb! Thank you for sharing
I don't understand why they didn't translate the card titles....just my two cents.
Why did you stop creating content?
Because I got busy. I started the channel in the pandemic when I was living alone and my job as a high school teacher pretty much went to nothing (we were told to give the students no more than 15 minutes of work a day and to suspend grades). Then I got a housemate, started two different graduate programs simultaneously, and took on three part time jobs in addition to teaching full time. And then I got cancer on top of all of those other things. I'm better now, the housemate's gone, I've jettisoned two jobs, and finished one grad program...so maybe I'll do more content here again at some point.
I love there mini decks I have the white cats Tarot and it's beautiful decks
In 2024, if you can find an original blue or yellow deck and pay $200-$300, that's okay to do. It will continue to raise value and it also depends on what you put your money into. Many people spend $65 per week for artificial nails. Don't get your nails done and get an original tarot deck that will certainly last longer. ;). And when you sell your deck, I bet you will sell it for considerably more than you paid for. It's not like you're going to sell it for $50.

Hi where can one find the rider waite smith study deck?
Oh how I wish the small one was borderless! The image is already small, it doesn't need to be even smaller because of the border! And I would like it to be the same book as the bigger version. Like the sturdy box though! I just bought the big version, and I love it! 💖 Love how you compare the decks!
I am fairly new to tarot still and getting into the history. I loved this video and learning the publication history of lo scarabeo’ dirty Pam deck
May I ask where you got your dirty Pam? Or where I could find it?
It is out of print. At this time, your best bet is probably to watch eBay listings. Unfortunately, since the box name of this is “Pamela Colman Smith Tarot,” it’s pretty difficult to set alerts for.
I was thinking long enough to maybe get the Centennial Deck version but I realized the thick line work, color bleeding and the less than desired color saturation to cut the costs....... you can see how bad it compares even to the older print in your video. It is a shame...
they are pocket size ?
No, neither of these are pocket size. They’re both standard deck size. Maybe it’s the tins that are making you think pocket? I just made those since I use the decks enough that the tuck boxes were impractical for me.
@@melissazupan6026 yeah, actually i bought the pamela colman edition and the centennial tin deck because i saw that the sizes are not the same
Hello! I'm just now watching this great video. Question for you: Where did you obtain your copy of the Dirty Pam deck? Thanks in advance!
The Dirty Pam is out of print. Your best bet it to try to stalk eBay listings or put out an ISO post in one of the tarot collection Facebook Groups.
@@melissazupan6026 I found it on MPC.
I have this deck, and am generally of the opinion that it is sort of sacreligious to trim and alter the original image. However, I LOVE the new look of the trimmed version and the pink edging, and even the tuck box you made! Excellent alteration all around. I would be tempted to do this, but my handwriting is awful, so that would be a detraction for me to see as the card designations. The other thing I kind of rely on is the additional information at the bottom of the deck. I might buy another copy of this deck to give this a try, but overall, I'm impressed. Great job!
Next World does make for a gorgeous trim! My handwriting is seriously nothing great…this is as neat as it gets…but I think anyone’s handwriting would look fine on the cards. They’re edgy enough that messy handwriting totally matches the vibe.
I have been using this deck quite a lot lately. I like it. It's vibrant.
slippery ❤
damn i have to buy that❤
Great info. Thanks. That glossy card stock is a killer for me too. I can take thin a lot more than I can take that kind of gloss. Pretty artwork though.
what an opportunity. i think the value has risen well above $1,500
It has an old time feel
Hi, you mentioned how it didnt make sense that these french pattern (fleur de lis) could be on English cards? Why would that be though? Its not like the artwork on the rider waite has an only English/England theme. Instead the cards have a bit of different things from different cultures and religions. Take the high priestesss card: Islamic moon, Greek cross, Torah, pillars of Jerusalem, Egyptian crown
What is the name of number seven please?
Carol Herzer’s Illuminated Tarot. You can find them here: www.soul-guidance.com/tarotdecks/page_7.htm
@@melissazupan6026 thank you so much 💖
Im from Argentina. This deck is the cheapest and easiest to get. Right now it costs about $6. unfortunately the quality of the cards is not good.
which deck is the third WOF card in the comparison from at 16:39? I can't make out what's being said there. "my pmd"?
Awesome! Is Pam's Delight still available?
No, for some reason Reall only did a run of 30 decks. I guess it was a prototype of a later deck that came out. I think that was Pam’s Midnight or something like that. At any rate, that deck is also out. I’ve checked Reall’s website, and it’s been taken down, and her Etsy store has nothing in it. I’ve checked DriveThruCards and GameCrafter, where she had her print-on-demand’s Pam’s Original and Pam’s Vintage, and she doesn’t have that deck up on either of those. 🤷♀️
Thanx for the video. Beautiful borderless deck. Better than radient wise spirit which is dark and shadowy and smith waite borderless which is dull bland and grainy. Im from india and was looking for these two deck on amazon and other e commerce online but did not find them. Would anyone help where one can buy these deck in india???
Not a fan of this deck I prefer the loscarabeo, also why the obsession with it being Pam's deck when A E Waite came up with it? No Waite no deck!
Thank you. This was very interesting.
Where can I purchase this? 🥺
hi, thanks for this very comprehensive video. is it my mistake, or is the deck you call "Boring Pam" identical to the Tarot Original 1909?
Yup! They’re the same deck. Tarot Original 1909 had not yet come out in the US when I made this video, so I couldn’t include it…but they’re the same deck.
Hi, I wrote this guide book and thank you for your good review. I am from Missouri. So thank you so much!!
I just got this deck and I LOVE everything about it, the muted colors, the cardstock, the shuffling....BUT the backs ugh 😩 I hate the backs.
