Cheap Trick had everything. Excellent pretty boy vocalist/guitarist and bassist, great lead guitarist who looks and acts like someone you’d cross the road to avoid and a great drummer who looks like he’s just stepped out of a 1940’s film noir crime film. And great, catchy pop/rock songs.
FACT: love song from son to father NOT to a girl. Rick Nielsen wrote it for his pop one of the greatest Pure Pop /PowerPop songs ever. The "didn't I see u cryin" is heartbreaking once u know it's from a son to his father.
urine idiot , it's about rick sittingin a chair and his dad turns on the telly and it only has 3 channels and rick wanted to watch gabby hayes but gabby wasn't on , its about wanting what you can't have
Fuckin' Bun E. was one of the groonvin'est drummers of his time, he was the living soul for Cheap Trick. The way they melded together was almost mystical. Long live Cheap Trick.
I was 15 in 1979 when my best friend turned me on to Cheap Trick. They were the first band I fell in love with after my own personal Beatlemania years. I'd forgotten how much of a shock it was to discover these people, and how ga-ga I was over Robin Zander. Tom Petersson was his perfect counterpart. I adored this band and the albums from that time. I always remembered that I liked Cheap Trick, but I'd forgotten how much. Recently I was wondering why I never cared or even liked early Journey. I just last year started liking Steve Perry's voice. I realize after seeing this video that Robin Zander gave me everything I needed in a rocker. He had the growl Steve never had. I was besotted with this music and the guy singing it. Steve couldn't touch it, even though he was really a better singer. If I'd seen Journey on Midnight Special in 1978, it might have been a different story. I never would have preferred Journey after Gregg left, but I might have liked Steve Perry and CT at the same time. As it was I didn't even know what Steve looked like and I laughed at Journey.
This really looks and sounds great! Rick is laugh out loud funny here. This is one of those songs that I have heard thousands of times and NEVER get tired of.
Freakin' amazing. Loved them then and freakin' still DO! Cheap Trick were tight as hell and watching this, they show it again. A great American rock band.
HOT HOT HOT !......I'll always remember these fab-4 guys....Jr. High days were totally jam'n....we actually had REAL BANDS that came to our dances N after football games in High school, too.....those were 'd good ol' days of late 70's into early 80's ~ 4sure : >
i am nearing sixtyt these people mof the cheap trick are amazing I first saw them live at a huge stadium in Canberra ACT Australia circa 1978. talk about loud it was soo loud wow anyhow I caught up with them ie the Trick at The House of Blues lace off Sunset LA around late 1995
After first falling in love with Robin and Cheap Trick with their In Color album, this and the Midnight Special performances sealed the deal with Robin’s awesome voice, that White Suit snd just a stellar Band I’ve loved , bought all the albums, etc. and have seen many times ever since 🙌🖤🔥🏁✨
Saw Cheap Trick perform live many moons ago when they 1st started performing...They were such an awesome tight band & still awesome today - Was so impressed how talented they are!!!
This song can go out to a Friend I love more then any other person in my life...a Friend that means the world to me and I will never give up no matter what.
led zeppelin, cheap trick and ac/dc. that's really all there needs to be in my rock n roll record cabinet! ok, I'll make room for the first 6 van halen albums too! -cheap trick says, "good night!"
The first time seeing them in like 1976, I'm thinking wtf , lmao, who the hell. are these guys , they jam, make you smile, laugh and just entertain you , Japan loves them
Indeed they were. I remember when this tune came out. Loved it then and still do. Simple as it is. I've never been afraid of anything until now. Now time scares the hell outta me.
remember driving my 68 mercury with the bondo'ed fenders .. listenting to this in 79. good rock never goes out of style. too bad theres not much of it being made these days.
You have to remember the competition on those days. They got allot radio play especially with "Surrender" & "I want you to want me". Too bad the old grey whistle test is gone...
This was when I became a fan. Just came back from NYC and while there saw them at the sold out Plaza show...older, fatter, balder (like me) but still as fresh as they were in this video. WHAT A BAND!!
I spent many a day grounded and quite a few getting swats for staying up to watch the Midnight Special, Don Kirshner, etc...I would NOT miss this bad either! They still kick ass!
I was lookin thru TH-cam to make up a 80's playlist of memorable songs that moved me in some way, and I remembered about Cheap Trick "I want you to want me" .. Boy was I bummed out when I found out the song is from 78 !!! ARGHHHHH !! Great damned songs though, might have to go and locate some more of their songs :) ... Thanks for sharing!!!

Want to ""Be SOMEBODY" ? DO SOMETHING !! Get GREAT @ 1 Thing. Hey, It's a start. ( He IS One of the Greatest "Characters") Great Player, & WRITES Most song parts. & yet... There Soo Genuinely nice, & have Allways been Cool with me.
I was fortunate enough to live near the Illinois / Wisconsin border in those days. I went to a club in Twin Lakes Wisconsin called the Edgewater and saw them the first time...clearly by accident. Then we spent the next 2 years following them around most of the local clubs until their first album.
Hello Trustobey, This is a great song! I remember when it came out, but let's not take leave of our senses; God is light years above anything we can do. All the best & God bless, Chris C. :o)

In those days,we were all young. But now,we are growing older.
Anybody else think that this song only gets better the older the lead singer gets?
That's the coolest drummer i ever saw!!
He looks like a dad that works selling shoes and is on break haha. Bun E. Carlos rules!!
IDK if I said this before but these guys were kind of to the 70s what Weezer would later be to the 90s. And that's awesome.
HOT HOT HOT !......I'll always remember these fab-4 guys....Jr. High days were totally jam'n....we actually had REAL BANDS that came to our dances N after football games in High school, too.....those were 'd good ol' days of late 70's into early 80's ~ 4sure : >

The greatest song ever, written by God himself
Timeless.
As teens growing up in South L.A., my brothers and I used to love CHEAP TRICK!
Saw them in Plano, Texas for fre and caught 5 guitar picks. Awesome.
Love the show old school @@
Cheap Trick rocks no two ways about it.
They sure do. Ever heard 'I must be dreaming' from the Heavy Metal soundtrack? Insane....sound like a metal band!

roberto bastuber se llama Rick Nielsen. Guitaristsa excellente
He is way more than a showman. He is a character, a fun loving guy, and a fucking GREAT guitar player. God bless Rick and his family.

Underrated band.
I can't believe I never listened to these guys! (Well, in Nashville you hear Free Bird 5 or 6 times a day). Music is ageless, these guys rock!
Que buen grupo, la voz de Robin Zander, el showman Rick Nielsen y el sorprendente Bun E Carlos en la batería!
Class-ic!

Hello Trustobey,
This is a great song! I remember when it came out, but let's not take leave of our senses; God is light years above anything we can do.
All the best & God bless,
Chris C. :o)
Under rated is Correct!! they ROCK!!! the 70's ROCKED for Music!!
class act!!!
Seen these guys a dozen times. Great band.
Ive seen them about 6 times. The best concert was in 1985 in a small club that held maybe 500 people. I was deaf for 2 days but it was a great show.
epistte
I heard that !
+epistte
Deaf? I have seen many concerts and there's only one that makes deaf, because I already have Artillery ears, and that's Ted Nugent! Every time, Ted never fails to jam extremely loud and he doesn't need the buildings acoustics.
Keep Rockin!
God Bless the USA!
Brian Oberlander
Cat Scratch Fever - I git it.
+chefgiovanni
Ted just plays loud and clear that penetrates the ears.
Are you really a chef? If you are then I'm guessing Italian cuisine.
God Bless the USA!
