Awesome playthrough of this great classic! I like Salamander more but this version is also very cool, especially the "Thunderbolt" soundtrack (stage 2 music) kicks some serious ass! :-D
Wow this is like Super Lifeforce Turbo Champions Edition. Kudos to you for knowing all these patterns. I can't even do this with the normal slowdown. Thd arcade on mame is like a $10 to finish game lol. The NES I can do in about 10 lives, but this one just feels all the more brutal.
What a strange story. So Konami takes Salamander for the US port and butchers it, saying it's now about being inside a body even though half the game's assets don't fit. So Konami of Japan sees this and ...likes the idea? But actually goes through the effort of changing all the assets to actually match the biological theme and releases it in the arcade.
Interesting. I never knew this version existed. So the NES Life Force I grew up playing and loving as a kid was a bastard mix of the US version of Life Force, the Japanese version of Life Force, and some new stuff. Although it seems like it took more from the Japanese version such as the power up system working as in Gradius. Thank God we didn't get the other system -- I HATED that. And they kept the biological theme going with the NES version. Despite fire flames and not acid flames in Stage 3. ;)
I agree with you, of the arcade versions of Salamander/Life Force, the final Japanese version is by far the best. The Gradius power up system is just superior in every way to the awkward system in Salamander.
Why don't you use the shield even when you have everything else? In the first four levels, I saw you fully powered and have enough energy capsules, but you don't get the shield.
It's confusing, there are actually 3 different arcades games. 1) Salamander - The original Japanese release 2) Life Force (US) - A reworked version of Salamander with different graphics released in the US. 3) Life Force (Japan) - Basically a different game from the first 2, it has even more graphical changes and actually plays more like Gradius (powerups must be activated by the player instead of just pick up) than Salamander/Life Force (US). The game in this video is the 3rd version.
11:28 So that's where the mysterious "Puaaah!" voice in Stage 1 of Gradius 5 came from when you destroy the myriad of read bubbles lol!

Thanks! I prefer the graphics of Salamander but I like the music and gameplay a bit more on this one. Salamander is also much harder.
You mean Stage 4 BGM, right?

looks like this version also made stage 4 boss less bs and laser weapon is more lenient than Salamander
12:04 So what is the small thing escaping at the upper right?
might be some enemy ran away
the lord british ship
@@paulsamson4628 It is red like the Lord British... I think you might be right.
I think it's the player 2 escapee.
Lord British, Player Two
Clearly Gradius V took a lot of inspiration from this game like some enemies, music and some enviroments
Indeed. Love both games.
All the gradius/salamander/nemesis /lifeforce games use the same music/bosses/levels
Interesting, so the 'fire' was really acid flames? That's worse. lol

think Japanese Life Force as a "remix mode" of Salamander
*Shrug* I actually like the whole being inside a cyborg plot...
This version has some strange choices for music in Stage 4 and 5. I like the original version and FC version better.
Interesting; I didn't know this version existed.
So ripple/pulse actually wasn't pointless like in the NES one?

@@PEG I think the Salamander system is a bit better for co-op, but the Gradius system makes single-player better.
@@dansamolewicz3462 I suppose you are right, I've only done single player.
If you’re interested there’s a Series, search Salamander OVA.

@@PEG im from us but i say perfer salamander
where can i get the rom at
This is suppose to be the hardest setting?
I feel like I got robbed by the NES Life Force version.... this version looks way better.
You still see the second player when it ends lol
I think there should be maximum 3 multiples, also some bosses are destroyed too easy and quickly
Seems the original is always the best.
I don’t understand why people use Ripple... worst weapon.
In vertical stages with full battery of the multiples/options, it is a full screen laser blanket.
