I remember the Larry Walker broken bat he had his MVP year. It flew into the stands and nearly killed a woman. He paid all her medical expenses out if his pocket even though he wasn't obliged to. He visited her in the hospital every single day till she was released. Very class act.
Baseball without exaggeration is like a shooting field where if you lose focus for a second or just annoy the pitcher too much you can lose your teeth or have a bruise for days, maybe even broken bones plus all the risks that come with pitching in general.
@@then00brathalos It may not be as dangerous as gridiron football, but every sport carries an risk, if not the certainty, of injury. There's a whole branch of medicine dedicated to sports-related injuries for a reason.
Metal bat is even more dangerous. Some college dude who got drafted to MLB, once hit a pitch using a metal bat, the ball went to the crowd, hit a man on his head. That man got coma for 2 months, almost dead, or worst brain damage. Thats 1 of the reason why MLB is using wooden bat, to reduce the impact profesional can hit, because playing in stadium surrounded by 10 000+++ people, shit absolutely going to happen. Except you change it to Pillow Bat, no accident can happen, maybe.
It all comes down to conical shape of the baseball bat and poor timing by batters. In cricket, rectangular shape of bat prevents broken bat incidents to lot of extent.
I'm not a baseball enthusiast at all, but can someone please explain to me how these bats shatter? I know it's obviously wear and tear, but like how much force is required to do so? How long do most well maintained bats last for?
The energy of the ball striking the weakest point “in on the hands” shatters it and the barrels will split in two cause the energy travels all the way through to the top
I’m not sure of this is right or anything, but I believe that some bats can be worn down with use. Using it over and over, with the intensity of this sport could easily explain why wooden bats do this
No, everything has equal and opposite force, plus energy is often lost in other ways due to heat or sound. Adding on to this, the user of the bar also serves to take some of the force applied. I'd just say that it is not a problem equal force, but rather faulty bats.
European beechwood is the best wood for baseball bats its harder denser and more durable then maple with flexibility of ash and doesn't shatter when it breaks it stays together
way back when i was pitching in hs our coach (an ex mlb pitcher in the 70s to early 90s) taught me how to throw a littler darting cutter with late break which i could turn into a slider with an adjustment in finger pressure . and there was this absolute stud on the rival team across the street and they used a wood bat because in their exact words (i dont need a pussy metal bat thats for bitches) and fast forward to game on a unusually warm night in september and mr stud comes up with his wood bat . I was already preparing to break his bat because he was trash talking the pitcher i came in to relieve. so i threw the cutter it darted inside at the last minute and he broke his bat. but the ball went foul so he got another. So i broke his bat again rinse and reapeat until he yells at me "Hey! can you throw anything else?" so i broke off one of my best sliders i ever thrown it started inside and then ended low and away. Mr stud was completely flabbergasted and on his way back to the dugout i heard him mumble "dads gonna be pissed that i broke all his bats" i still think about that moment to this day

I wanna see a broken at for a home run, literally the coolest thing ever
There are entire compilations of that

Only issue is the bat loses allot of power on failure.
Well it still count as a run, because you didn't actually throw the bat

I don't hate baseball but when people say baseball is harmless they're horribly wrong
most people who shit on baseball saying stuff like that have no idea what on earth they're talking about
@@then00brathalosI think the people saying baseball is harmless are people trying to act macho by playing “harmful” sports

i love how all the replays werent in there
That second to the last one must be terrifying if you're the pitcher seeing a big-ass wooden stake cartwheel towards you
Players when they break the bat over their knees in anger: CHILDS PLAY!
Players when they break the bat trying to swing: Holy crap, I did that??!
Man i'm so oblivious, i always thought the bats were metal😂
0:01 michael jackson pose right there
So I guess they are just gonna keep allowing wooden bats until someone’s throat gets impaled by a foot long piece of wood.
I mean some of the bats are sent flying without breaking so idk if it's better to just get hit in the head with a metal bat
Get a grip man they’ve been playing with wooden bats for nearly 200 years and nothing like that has ever happened
it’s already happened. a woman almost died

They should switch to derated metal bats. Same hit performance and significantly lower chance of breaking
