- Xanthan Gum can be difficult to disperse in water. So for cosmetic formulations, dispersing into Vegetable Glycerine first makes your work easier and will lead to a smoother finish in your final product.
Simply measure out your desired level of Xanthan Gum and then add your Glycerine to the Xanthan Gum.
The gum will quickly and easily stir into a paste which can then be added to your final formulation.

What was that ratio of xanath to glycerin. Tell me like I'm a child please, not a chemist. Forget n percentages for a moment. And if you must tell me percentages I need to know if we are calculating by weight or volume. Everyone on line seems to leave the little crucial information a mystery. Why did you not sheer the glycerol and xanath¿ and why did you not sheer that mixture into the water? Was that distilled water, I'm assuming? And if we're to make the exact slurry you just made and just wanted to add cerium oxide or diamond powder (25 size micron and smaller) what we be you thoughts as to when either of those ingredients should be added during the process? And I suppose that added ingredient would adjust yhe water amount or xanath amount for desired consistency?sorry a lot of questions that I'm pretty sure I know the answer to. I just loke to cross check with someone. Make sure I'm not a complete lunatic and my thought process leads to logical outcomes and practices. Ohhh and is pure glycerol the the same as vegetable glycerol?

Nah didn't work for me. Is it that my gum is too old. Btw I mixed with a long magnetic stirring bead instead of the spoon. I mixed for about 5 minutes. Now I am trying to mix using a auto stirrer at 90 degree but no luck.

exactly my question
from what i know, xanthan gum is water soluble so your coconut oil will not have any effect. sometimes gum is added to the oil phase before mixing with the water phase to ensure even dispersion so your water phase doesn't clump up. but you won't see any effect with adding gum to just oil
same effect as this ... will allow you to add the mixture to water without the gum balling up. I often do this.
Hi there, thanks for this explanation. One question: do you think you can add a certain amount of alcool instead of just water? I've tried at home and the alcool has just tickened the xantan gum in very stiff small pieces. I wanted to make a hand gel sanitizer...

I tried the same and got clumps as well. The alcohol seems to separate the gum. I tried it slowly first with water then with glycerin, but without good results.

@@lesliecooley4990 I will try to help. If you are asking how much I hydrate the 100% alcohol, that is down to 90% (10% distilled water)
If you are asking about the measurements from the link. Those are all by weight
If you don't have a scale and are using household measurements like cups and teaspoons let me know what percent your alcohol is and I will give you a close recipe
Keep in mind; you must add the alcohol slowly while mixing to all other ingredients, or you will lose your gel state
