I made a variation of this recipe at a grocery store deli that I worked at and we added chopped water chestnuts for extra texture and crunch! Delicious served in a tomato for lunch!
Lisa, just an FYI: You can order amazing seafood from Tanner's seafood in Nikiski, Alaska, including king salmon, alaskan cod, and king crab and dungeness crab. I lived in Alaska for 10 years and now live in Santa Barbara, California. Tanner's overnights to California. It is frozen and it is FANTASTIC. You might want to try to get seafood from them. Trust me, you will never use imitation crab meat after you eat the real stuff from Tanner's seafood.

I unfortunately lost all my top teeth from infection, so celery is out. I hardly have chives, so I will substitute with basil. I will also add dill weed to the mustard-mayonnaise mixture, lemon juice, and canned lump crab. My birthday this year is two days before Thanksgiving, so my plan is to stuff the crab meat salad into four avocado halves, two for each day. Thank you for helping me decide what to add to the crab meat to make it more flavorful than just the crab and mayo. BTW, I live in Tucson, so this cold salad will be just fine weatherwise.

I almost always have a package of (imitation) crab in the fridge - and small cooked shrimp in the freezer. I use about 1 c shrimp to the crab. Instead of paprika, I use Tajin.

This looks so delicious! I'm ok with fake crab if it's mixed like this in a salad. You wouldn't be able to taste the difference. Never saw it frozen. We tend to buy lump crab in a can because it is what we can find. I do like restaurants to specify if it is fake. I hate being fooled.

I use imitation crab as well. I like to put my salad in the fridge for a few hours before eating.

Most sushi bars and grocery sushi has fake crab. I can’t abide the sugar/HCFS, Costco has decent prices for the king crab.
