This review is so comforting. I'm not the only person who felt this way. My favourite thing about the movie is that Jason Statham has a rule about never using a gun to kill anyone. It is never explained why but this is treated like a build up to a reveal about his past. This is never explained. Then in the third act he indiscriminately shoots everyone. This is also never explained.

This does sound like one of those ridiculous 80's or 90's action films that had just the most ridiculous premises that existed only to serve up action set pieces. And honestly, being a 90's kid, I'm here for it.

It’s not going to win Oscar’s, it won’t be all PC, there will be the typical typecast villains BUT it will be enjoyable. • @KrolikPudding
      @KrolikPudding 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

I agree with the first part, but not with the second - Ayer has a mixed record but he did some really good movies - End of Watch, Fury, Harsh Times, also he wrote the screenplay for Training Day. I sincerely, didn't expect him doing a typical Jason Statham action movie, but here we are - I gtuess after the Suicide Squad and the Ayer cut interview he's not getting great screenplays.

I went to see it tonight because Showcase cinemas had a deal where I could watch it for a fiver. I thought it was hilarious for much of the stuff Dan picks up on. I overhead one woman haughtily declare afterwards “well I felt that was rather far fetched” which could be the dictionary definition of litotes. I particularly loved how all the fights were shot close in to avoid the otherwise obvious fact there were dozens of people not being attacked who could pop him with a head shot at any moment.
Not that it matters in the least I would just make a slight adjustment, Jeremy Irons isn’t playing the father, just an ex CIA head who Hutcherson’s mother had a thing with and who leads the family’s security team.

Yo Dan, idk if you’ll see this but the movie DOES explain why he is a Beekeeper, he works with those specific Bees because one of their traits is self-sacrifice for betterment of the hive which is what he as a government Beekeeper is meant to do.

This was awesome - simply a Statham film that harks back to old 90s action film. Enjoyed this so much more than Expendable 4 and Meg 2.

That scene in FBI officer that Dan talks about.... I think it makes sense if you think about how shitty their government office vs the glitzy offices of the bad guys. Bad guys rolling in dough with cool offices, good guys sucking it up in crappy ones. I also noticed how the bad guy drinks "oatmilk" etcetc. Lol.

Given how David Ayer said he wanted this movie to feel like the action movies he loved as a kid I totally believe most of the cheese in this is intentional. Kinda excited to see it.

Just got back from the theater where I saw The Beekeeper. I didn't even notice the repairmen in the back of the scene fixing the water leak. This movie was insane! Please make 50 more of them. Dan's review is spot on!

Dan's review is I the third one I've watched for this movie. Given my experience with the other two reviewers, I'm surprised Dan is the one most affected by seeing the film. But the reaction is entertaining and strangely thought-provoking.

I love a Stath film and this looked entertaining from the trailer, but I never know what to expect from Ayer (especially as his last two films have truly sucked). I saw the Rotten Tomatoes score and some early reviews and it did better than expected, but this review has really made me want to see it 🤣

I hadn't heard of this, but my wife and I went to see it on your recommendation. We both had a blast, so thank you!
This was such a wild ride, especially since the marketing managed to hide the big twist. (Cool character too, it was hard to guess the arc there.)
I am still in awe at the absolute sincerity and gravitas that they delivered here. It's one thing to use "to Bee or not to Bee" with a straight face, but setting it at a key confrontation moment was just completely nuts.
    What a movie.

jeremy irons wasn't josh hutcherson's dad - he just referred to him as "daddy" once but later in the movie said his father was long dead. i think irons was supposed to be hutcherson's mom's boyfriend? their relationship was very unclear

Agreed! I will watch any and everything Jason Stratham is in. He’s just so good!
Felt like they’re creating a new series like Transporter. He’s so good at these roles. I did think the pacing here was all over the place. He made the intel call and boom next scene he’s at the call center ready to set fire! No transition, no build up. 0-100 real quick. I wanted more engagement between him and the FBI agent whose mom died - there’s no real emotional evolution or development as it pertains to the mom’s suicide - not even from the daughter. All that said, I’m definitely watching the next one As the “Borne identity “ like ending suggests 😆

Side note: The cybercrime weirdness was in fact explained as a plot point. The method used by the villain was new and unique within the world of the story itself. It was an interesting idea, too.
