You need to remember they came from stage plays. Subtle acting has no place there. I agree both Sivaji and Kamal, more so the former, have hammed in many movies but when needed they have expressed subtle acting also. As someone asked, how do you define acting? Everyone’s perception is different. Tamils are also highly emotional and that shows in their arts also. It doesn’t take away from the fact that both these gifted actors are among the pantheons of the best actors in India
