You are SO fortunate and blessed. You have a mother who cared enough about your well being to insist you get a 401K. Many parents are hands off their grown kids, and just let them make their mistakes. If it hadn't been for the 401K where would you be now? "Lifestyle creep" has probably meant you bought a really nice car - or two - or three. So now you have excellent transportation no doubt. I expect you have your own apartment, and since you said you are a few hundred thousand below what you would have had if you had made other choices, it sounds like you have a few hundred thousand at your disposal to live on, indefinitely. There doesn't seem to be any real need to get a job in order to pay your bills. You are in the catbird seat financially (it's an old expression).
I hope you are in touch with your gratitude for your mother, as without her pushing you about saving, you might have to be living with her, as many children have had to do, with zero money of their own. Your goal now might be to not burn through your savings, and until you get a job, spend very carefully. If you are out of work for two or three years, that money can take a terrible hit. Finding some kind of work until you land what you want is what you might want to do. Blessings.

Hello, I know this may be a random comment on the internet and it may mean nothing to say this, but I felt obligated to say it. I saw your video talking about your sickness and how it messed up your 20s. I feel for you brother, sometimes the cards we get dealt are unfair. That said- I still believe you have a huge amount of time left in your life. This is a marathon and not a sprint, don’t look around and compare. This is your journey. Keep fighting, don’t make the same mistakes. We’re rooting for you 💯

In my twenties and half my thirties I spent all my money on drinking and smoking. I dread to think how much money I’d have now if I’d invested even half of it. Do I regret it, well sort of, but I don’t think I’d change it.

pretty sure everyone ruined their finances in their 20s. Believe it or not I went broke TWICE in my 30s. Now that I'm 39 managed to build up my savings to over a million dollars. Looking back on it now, I definitely should have been a multi millionaire by now and should already be retired. I still have to work for 3-5 more years but feel lucky to have a job in tech

Get back to a corporate job, but I think you’re unemployed. Corporate jobs pay well, good benefits, and great retirement plans. We always make bad investments.

honestly you just have to suck it up, swallow your pride and work the 9-15. Especially if its a high paying 6 figure job. I see all these people on youtube telling people to quit their high paying jobs to follow their dreams, its quite idiotic
