We are running the Stoptech ST40 calipers on our 2014 WRX race car, and they work very well. We had paired them with the Subaru 2-Pot calipers in the rear initially, but we discovered that we were having some issues with too much front brake bias. This was more evident to us because we weren't using ABS at the time. We have since added the rear Brembo calipers off an STI, and not only is the bias improved, but the stopping power is amazing. We are running pretty aggressive Hawk pads, and so car the Stoptech calipers are holding up great! It is good to see that you are giving this Bugeye some love. Keep up the good work, and the great content!
i have just ordered the st40 kit for my 2013 wrx. i havent installed yet, but reading your comment i wonder if ill experience extreme bias issues. the kit says its 'engineered to work with the oem rear brakes'. is that just fluff? thanks!
It's refreshing to see a knowledgeable and succinct explanation of the benefits of a good braking system. The number of people buying wilwood junk who think they're getting the same kind of engineered system drive me crazy.
Sorry its off topic, but at 6:42 What makes this whining noise when he is accelerating?.. Sounds like he has a sequential gearbox, but he doesnt.. Can i have someone explaining it? It sounds really cool
This might sound like a dumb question but when I do a brake upgrade how do I determine my pad size? Do I have to buy a pad set from the brand I choose to go with for the calipers?
STI Calipers are budget brakes, and the mounting bolt threadholes are known to strip the threads. As the caliper needs to be removed for a pad change this will sooner or later happen, and then a helicoil needs to be fitted. Also, the Stoptech caliper uses a very common pad shape, so many brands/types of pad are available.
Respect to this gentleman, he’s very knowledgeable in brake system... 👍🏼

Love seeing you whip your bug around like a go-kart!!! Reminds me of me..lol... These cars were meant to be driven!!
Oh, and also people always talk about drilled and slotted rotors being a myth, did you just confirm that slitted rotors actually have function? lol
They function but we prefer slotted as drilled tend to crack.
Only two videos on the WRX?

Does everyone in the shop have a permanent smile 🤣 Nice work guys, keep the videos coming on the Subbie.
Do you have straight-cut gears? That gearbox is so noisy!
Yep!

Some of the gears on Ian’s WRX are straight cut. They do sound pretty cool
MotoIQ u.u thank you

Love the knowledge and understanding from true experience! 😯😊👍👍

Yes but most racing brakes use standard pad sizes so pads are usually from many sources.
just saying i have a 91 subaru legacy turbo its a rally car and thats back in 90's it was brought to the usa and they share alot of parts aswell
Very cool!
nice rims & BBK you install bro, match with your car
Is this real better than just using the STI calipers and say stoptech rotors and pads.
Also wonder this as well as how do these compare to the Cadillac brembo conversion that are much cheaper but allegedly messes with the brake bias
I think it is, lighter more swept area, more pad volume and more thermal mass

Why didn't you get the trophy kit? $$$$
