    Sulfates are the ingredients in shampoos that make it lather! They're actually pretty stripping of moisture and oil of the actual hair strand, which is why it may feel "cleaner" after a shower, however they're not good for color-treated hair as it will strip the hair of the color! So Function of Beauty is sulfate-free hence "color-safe," in comparison to most Pantene formulations which usually aren't sulfate-free.

    • @ambergerhelper7852
      @ambergerhelper7852 3 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Sulfates are also the ingredients which wash away heavier ingredients like glycerin and silicones.
      Many girls are losing hair using the curly girl method.

    • @kartmo
      @kartmo 3 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      @@ambergerhelper7852, i mean, thats questionable as you have to wash and brush your hair less, so when you actually brush it (and see the amout of hair loss), its going to be the amount of hair that you lose within a few days. So it May seem like a lot, but usually it is within the norm.

      Sulfates can overperform i dont hate it but i use those types of shampoo when i put like wax or alot of hair products or if i feel like my hair is so dirty but still its not even that bad tbh except when your hair is dry which i cant relate

I just bought a shampoo, conditioner and hair mask for £11 (I’m from the uk), I just clicked “subscribe” for all of them because that gives you so much off and you can cancel it instantly after. I think it’s completely normal to feel indecisive especially when it comes to more expensive products. Every time I buy something a bit more pricey, I find myself trying to justify if it’s worth it because it’s sucks when you use a mediocre product that gives you similar results to a product that can be half the price

    Not sure if the online version works the same, but from the target version they sell I would guess they just have a range of base shampoos for different hair types and add different booster shots for specific hair concerns, so the "customization" would be pretty quick on their part.

    Hairloss is not necessarily due to poor health or nutrition. It could be due to irritation to scalp and follicles, and Im speaking from personal experience. I don't care if products are made from the most natural ingredients, if it irritates you, it irritates you. Plant based does not mean it's the best choice. Fun Fact: some of the chemotherapy drugs are made from plants. For my personal hairloss experience, i decided to try Kerastase, super expensive but within 1 month, hairloss stopped. That was how i found out my drug store shampoo and conditioner were irritating my scalp.

    thank you so much for this review!! I've been thinking about trying function of beauty for awhile since it's hard for me to find good products for my hair type, but the price has turned me off EVERY TIME. I'm honestly glad I've never wasted my money on it hearing how most people find it to be entirely mediocre. also - I'm inclined to believe that they do start off with a base that they simply add additional formulas into, based on the fact that my local target now sells fob products. you can buy a bottle of either a straight, wavy, curly, or coily 'base' shampoo/conditioner and up to three small vials of 'boosters' (anti frizz, replenishing, etc) to mix in.

    Thanks for the non sponsored review, Judy. My Target store carries Function of Beauty shampoo and conditioner. You purchase a bottle and then select your customized ingredients. So essentially you buy a bottle of shampoo and then also purchase a small tablet size of product which you add to the shampoo and it is supposed to be the customization for dry hair or wavy hair, etc. I have tried Function of Beauty and had the same reaction as you. I like Briogeo but my current favorite is Ouai. The Ouai makes my hair feel soft!

    I have similar hair concerns with you (hair loss? but also oily hair) and i use FOB interchangeably with Hask that is also sulphate free, since its so expensive, i also only buy it on sale and when i compare it with the Hask one it does help control oiliness, not too sure about helping with hair loss :/ my sister on the other hand loves FOB and she its the only shampoo she uses since she bought tried it last year, she was the one who recommended it to me actually
    Also shampoos that arent made with sulphates tend to not lather well so thats normal!!

    If you had any recent weight loss, hormonal changes, or extreme stress that could factor in more hair loss. I had that experience with all 3 types of stressors at different times.
    If it's weight loss that will eventually get back to normal and you just need to eat a nutritional diet and your hair should stop falling off less.
    Hormonal and stress kind of go hand in hand, if you think it might be that, maybe consult with your doctor.
    For frizzy hair, I noticed that washing in warm water and doing a hair mask helped my asian course hair as well!

      That's pretty funny cause FOB changed my hair and scalp for the better. My hair is less frizzy and doesn't get frizzy at all during the Miami heat, my scalp never itches when I condition it cause literally every conditioner I've tried makes me itchy, it feels lightweight and soft and I've seen a bit of more hair growth after probably 5 months of using it. I guess it just depends of what you pick on the quiz cause you gotta be 100% sure you're picking the right choices for your hair and picking the right goals that your hair needs.

Still used it up tho cuz $$$. But then my second STILL made my roots feel so gunky even after making a totally different formula! For frizzy hair, I would highly recommend Lush's H'Suan Wen Hua hair treatment - I'd been struggling with frizziness after bleaching my virgin hair. No regular product (drugstore or more expensive varieties) could fix my dry, wayward hair, until I started using Lush's H'Suan Wen Hua twice a month and just wash with regular drugstore shampoos. Plus, the latest formulation is vegan! #notsponsored

    The frizz may be due to the way you shampoo and condition- if you tangle your hair up while washing, conditioning, or styling that can make hair frizzy. I get a lot of frizz too, but lately I've been more conscientious of the way I touch my hair and that's helped :)

    If Amika isn't available in New Zeleand, then I also recommend the Briogeo Superfood Avocado shampoo and conditioner. I also have used the Banana one but it doesn't work that well for my hair type (fine, thick, curly), and I just ordered their new Mango Cherry balancing ones.

    There is a video on youtube I saw years ago but it showed how they have a base formula for like conditioner and shampoo and then they add ingredients based on your goal. Most companies do have base ingredients then add special ingredients for special needs FOB difference is you choose your goals hence they can call it customized to your specific needs. The video mentioned shows how it literally took few minutes for product to be made.

    For me, screw the expensive brands except for the Olaplex Bond Smoother which I apply after every wash and a little most nights. I only wash my hair 1-2 times a week and it's very long. The best for me is the L'Oréal Elvive line except I think the orange bottles, Dreamlengths, are terrible. I double wash with H&S Clinical Strength shampoo then the Elvive Total Repair shampoo. Every 3rd or 4th wash, I then use the 8 second Wonder Water. The extreme repair and erasing balm conditioners are the best for me and very reasonably priced. I use a lot of conditioner for my long hair and can't imagine paying those high end prices, especially since they don't work as well.

    Just bought some after trying many different generic shampoos I've run out of ideas no matter what my hair would be frizzy and flat I got this personalized shampoo in hopes it'd make a difference I'm waiting on the results when my hair dries. And I'm watching this video to see your experience with it. Smells amazing though ngl I got rose and lavender scented! I also got it sulfate free. Its crazy expensive though too even if it works I wish they had some kind of deal on them to make them cheaper I hope it's worth it! And I'll try to make it last a while.

    I don't go through shampoo and conditioner fast because I only wash my hair 1-3x per week, so I'm fine with spending more on hair care.
    I like my Function of Beauty, I'm going through my 2nd set and the giant bottles have lasted me a year and I'm not done the bottle. It's basic and consistent and my hair stays in decent condition, so I may try something else soon.

    I don’t know who needs to hear this, but I had this weird experience with the shampoo. I ordered a lilac colour shampoo which got black in 3 months, and I was shocked after seeing that because I felt like I have wasted my CAD 90 on a shampoo which I thought would be worth it. I’m not sure who else have experience the same. 😰😰

    There's a NZ brand that does shampoo and conditioner bars called Ethique! Cruelty free and without plastic packaging!
    I have short, fine, but thick hair, and my partners thick asian short hair, we've been using the Ethique bars for a few years now!
    IMO they smell really good, not expensive, and theyre usually on sale at different stockists!
    I have short hair so not sure how long the product would last with medium-long hair but id say both me and partner go through one shampoo bar every 6-8 months. Worth a shot if youre looking for packaging plastic free cruelty free and local hair care!
    Theyre currently our preferred brand, the shampoo bar from lush is ok, but conditioner was terrible, same for BonBon Factorie (also nz brand make yummy body scrubs etc) until the Ethique bars I found it really hard to properly lather and rinse out the product.

    It might be that there is already premade product and they made it fancy by letting you "customize" I mean like when we got to normal supermarket there is shampoo for dry hair, oily scalp, damaged hair, coloured hair, anti hair lose etc etc etc. The only difference is the colour and scent is fixed. Who knows the only thing that they customizer for ya is the colour and scent and everything else is premade.
    I know she did say like there is alot of same ingredients, and what she meant is that the base product might be premade. But my thoughts are that the whole shampoo is premade like those in the supermarket just they give a custom scent and colour. That's pretty simple to customised if that's the case

    I think that if you have straight hair it is not worth it because you can use like any shampoo and conditioner for people with curly hair can only use limited stuff so it’s helpful that you can customise the shampoo conditioner how you want it

    As someone who has never tried function of beauty but has watched a very thoroughly done TH-cam video of its marketing tactics, I honestly don't think it is that customizable or that groundbreaking in its formula or ingredients. In the us, we have function of beauty in stores and even then the ingredients of the little customizable pods you can pop in your shampoo bottles are different than the ones they list on the website.. for some reason :/
    I think their marketing is genius, and it is the OG create your own beauty product- but I'm not at all surprised

    I’m like really late! But I honestly disagree with this. Curls in fact cause frizz mostly because they are dry. U can add shots of stuff inside of you shampoo and conditioner for 2 dollers just simply buy the original. They are about $10 each. This stuff works really well with my hair at least.

    Try not to use heat on your hair totally if u use heat and die your hair it will be damaged. Try using your it with out doing harmful things to your hair. Also if u add how much u would spend monthly for normal other shampoos and conditioner its way more expensive so I think price os great . I dont think u gave it a fair shot in my opinion

    Did your conditioner specifically smell like toothpaste?! I got the lavender scent for my shampoo and conditioner too when I tried it (I got sucked in to the hype too lol) and I normally loveeeeee lavender but the conditioner smelled exactly like toothpaste to me. Not the shampoo, the shampoo smelled great but the conditioner I couldn't use because it smelled so bad. And both gave me dandruff: I was trying to tackle an oily scalp and strengthening ends (I have thick, wavy hair, and I rarely get haircuts so I like to condition my long hair as much as possible) and yet it made my oily scalp worse AND gave me bad dandruff, literally had to get dandruff shampoo to make it go away. They gave me a refund at least but they also tried to blame it on me (I.e. I used the shampoo wrong or it was something I ate lol....sure function of beauty...sure) anyway I hated it. And wayyyyy overpriced. I got the smaller bottles and it was 60$ CAD and I'd rather just buy the luxury cruelty free stuff. I went back to redken and it's been great, but I wanna try briogeo or ouai next time I wanna try something new. I really liked the gisou honey shampoo. Super expensive but smelled amazing and felt really nourishing and smoothing for my hair, but it wasn't enough to make my oily scalp stay away so I went back to others. Might get it again just as a "treatment" shampoo when I want something gentle and smoothing though! anyway never trying function of beauty again everyone I know who's tried it doesn't like it. So glad to hear your thoughts though!

    Lather dont do a single thing . also it's not healthy to wash your hair every day . so if u washed once a week you shampoo and conditioner would last longer . also washing your hair every day can make your hair friz

    • @btshwaiting
      @btshwaiting 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Why did you suggest only washing once a week. You only say once a week because its engraved into your brain from everyone else on social media saying to wash once a week only because its convenient. Someone washing their hair every day doesn't and shouldn't need to now skip 6 days of washing. what happened to skipping 1 day or 2 days, why specifically 6? All these infrequent hair washing cultists like yourself are giving bad advice online and you guys are just being dirty by letting oil, yeast, bacteria, dead skin, dust mites, and environmental pollution build up on your scalp for a whole week. This is the opposite of creating balance when it comes to having a clean fresh scalp and having a normal amount of sebum moisturise the scalp.
