Self start? This truck, just as shockwave was and every other jet powered vehicle, is started by batteries that are not located on or in the vehicle. Hence the cables that are connected to start the jet engines. You can see the cable at 1:08 in this video and the guy removing them once the engines have fired and are under their own power.
