    Jimmy said something interesting on Sway, about making music on the road: people are not making albums, they are making songs

    The Roots have managed to consistently make great time-testing records since the early 90s, whilst touring. They're definitely an exception to Jimmy Iovine's theory.

    Never understood why record labels didn't just form their own streaming services. There is currently only 3 major record labels with subsidiaries. There are more streaming services then there are major labels.

    Clearing Value of assumptions and bringing the emotion to the surface What in the record business will last as regulation that an Artist can’t change so “limitations”? The paperwork could simply look like a business plan and not a world pool of standards. Make the impossible happen.

    Harder for people like jimmy to have total control.
    Jimmy wants a way to get that control back.

  • @NicholasStrong
    @NicholasStrong 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    For the first time ever... a current popular culture musician known for his contribution to Hip Hop became a billionaire (liquid capital) and other Artists decided “Hey, I want to be a billionaire also”.
    You are what you devote most of your time to. There’s nothing wrong with being an extremely successful business person (billionaire) but doing those kind of numbers in legal business as a first generation wealthy person is going to consume a lot of time.
    Making those kind of ends and being a phenomenal Artist cannot coexist.
    Either the art or the business will suffer/come in second place.

    He sounds real salty. He don't care about the music or the art. Sounds like he mad the artist is getting the money and not the record labels. That's why he went to the technology side (the money) and left the music industry (record labels) that's stopped making money.

    Artists would get 17-20%?? IN THEIR FUCKING DREAMS, after "breakage" (carried over from vinyl to CD and even on digital downloads.. YES record companies were charging Artists breakage (20%.. 1 in 5) on digital downloads) after "packaging" (even charging packaging on digital downloads) + charging the artists for the recording time and then keeping the masters! even though the artist paid for all that time! The artists would be lucky to get 2-3% The only hope the artist had is if they were a writer and their songs got a shit load of plays on radio! or if they toured like a demon.
